You may get your permit by going here..
Wilderness Camping Permit

I would put "Manzanita Creek" as your camping area. Trailhead Entry Location would be "Manzanita Creek trail".

Backcountry Permit
I just received my Backcountry Permit from Lassen. So I'm all set. I hope to get down on the 30th, maybe in time to help setup the tipi. I'm also hoping to get new backcountry skis. I can always hope.

I thought you guys burnt the Tipi down last winterfest. Is it a new Tipi?

Naaa, just had to repair several holes and tears in the sides. Some of the "stakes" apparently had weakened over the years and one broke during a 70+ mph gust last year and allowed the wind to get under it...that was all she wrote.

She be good now.

I hope you can make it, I'd like to meet you. I seem to remember, not all that long ago, when you posted your first trip....at least I believe that was you.

If so, you have done more in 4 or 5 years then most do in a life time.

If I am thinking of someone else.......

never mind.

Just e-mailed away for our permit. Lassen wins the prize for easiest permit application process.

Heads up on the permit details
Got a call from the ranger, seems I didn't state my entry and camp site in Lassen terms. I put Silver Snag for both. The ranger amended it to say we enter at Loomis Ranger Station and camp two miles from the TH at Manzanita Creek after a discussion while I looked at the map MtnSteve posted.

Yea, the current Rangers, except for a couple, don't know the Park very well. At the Loomis Ranger Station they have a USGS 7.5 map modified to show Silver Snag as well as Hoodoo. The Ranger at the time did it because we discovered the maps were wrong (contours, elevation and creek location) and he included the new names when he redid the map..

If you put down entry at Loomis Ranger Station and camp at Manzanita Creek you should be fine.

The number for the Loomis Ranger Station is 530-595-4444, ext 5187

or you can try Ranger Kelly's office at ext 5183.

I will be talking to them in a couple days and let them know whats going on. They are losing one guy (National Guard, guess where he's going) and keeping a temp on during the winter. I haven't had a chance to meet her yet. If you get Kelly, just let her know Steve sent ya.

I will post the numbers on the trip page after I talk to them.

Steve,
I entered Manzanita Creek Trail as my entry and Manzanita Creek as my campsite. Was that correct? I received an email telling me they would be mailing my permit.

Yes, that should be fine. I have used that same wording myself in the past.

I am soooo looking forward to this. Gonna go skiing again this Sunday just to get tuned up.
