He's a big strapping boy. He's five or six, from an aminal sanctuary. Diesel (tempted to call him Vin) - He's only fostered at the moment, as I have to see how he takes to life in an apartment. Docile and kinda lazy. The sanctuary people were happy to let me take him even if he has to go back, as he's been kennelled for a year, so the break and walks and stuff will do him good.

Is that a real dog or one of them wussy English dogs meant to chase vermin down holes?

I don't see any legs in that picture so I'm assuming a wussy dog.

Malamutes are great, I've had em for 30 years now. They don't like the summers in the south, however. You'll get attached in a hurry.

I hate to tell ya ynami, but your new girl friend is a dog.

That thing looks like a wolf!

That's great ynami. While you're at work he can occupy himself by chewing up your hiking boots.

It's a condo and there are lots of dogs in the building already.

Dogs just bark at squirrels, sometimes gather up the energy to pretend they are chasing them, otherwise ignore them.

He seems to want to chase then, but I have to say he's not the speediest creature on the block. I haven't let him off the leash yet and won't be for a while.

Our 14 year old dog loves to chase squirrels, just enough to chase the up a tree. Doesn't run fast enough to get 'em. Kinda tease.

Y2, that's great of you to get a rescue dog. I hope it works out. Your dog sure is nice looking.

This is the site for my dog, Capri. There were no chihuahuas available at the chi rescue in WA when I was looking for one, but since then, I have found other chi rescues, but I had bought her already.

Here is my best friend who people think she looks like a malamute or siberian husky, but she is not since she is full grown at 3-1/2 pounds.

Y2, I saw an adoption show on the animal planet channel where the gal took the rescue dog home, and he was used to being in a small, tight kennel all the time by his previous owners. She brought him home, and he was a big dog, and she found him standing on her kitchen table, lol.

He did other wild things, but he was not a bad dog. He was just never free, and did not know what his boundaries were . He ended
up being a great dog.

If necessary, Petsmart gives obedience classes for about $90. I even see the animal control centers give obedience classes, and I wonder if they are free or not.

Thanks Lipstick. He's actually pretty obedient. Willful at times, but eventually does as he's told. Hopefully I won't find my place wrecked when I get home.

Y2, my dog wasn't brought up to chew toys or have treats. The breeder was too busy giving attention to her "show" dogs, but I would try out some chew treats/rawhide for him to see which ones he likes. That will keep him busy during the day.

Chihuahua scam: Some chi breeders breed their dogs with other types of dogs that are bigger, so they can get more puppies, and make more money. A chi can sometimes have only one pup at a time or maybe 2 or 3. My friend got a pedigree chihuahua that got huge, and did non-chihuahua activity that was destructive to her home, and she gave her the best care, chew treats, toys, and she had other chi dogs that she owned to play with her.

Recently a woman saw her dog, and said, "Oh, I have a dog like that. It's a chihuahua/Jack Russell mix", and she thinks they came from the same breeder. While her chihuahuas snooze, this seemingly mixed dog is up all day running wild. She accused the breeder of selling her a mixed breed dog, nevermind that she paid a big price for a purebred chihuahua.

I find it to be quite the opposite. When Honey was a puppy she was the cutest thing and all the ladies wanted to pet her. My wife made a joke about it and I told her, "Dear, they don't even see me. All they see is Honey.". LOL!
