Good Morning - My Street is on Fire

“5:30 am and apparently an apartment building just around the corner (I can see smoke & the fire teams & new helicopter flying above) is on fire”

“Oh #&%!$ - the flames are big now and I just saw a child being carried down the street to an ambulance OMG”

“three helicopters are now flying over my street”

“What a way to wake up!”

“Maybe Godzilla is back in Manhattan.

I love the helicopter scenes where they can't hit Godzilla but they tear the hell outta the buildings.”

“Walked by the building today - it turns out it was the house just behind the apartments across the street from me. Good thing for backyards in Brooklyn or the whole damn row of apartments could have gone poof.

The entire house and adjoining 2 car garage burned. It's completely gutted. I don't know if everyone is okay. Am concerned about the small child I saw being carried down the street. Those poor people. Everything gone and winter's here.

This is the 2nd major fire on my corner in two/three years. My building has no fire escapes. I'm looking for a new apartment. Fires scare the hell out of me.”

“They used to sell escape ladders for people who lived in second-story rooms that rolled up and could be pushed under a bed or stored in the room somewhere. My parents had one for their bedroom. I don't know if they make one long enough for a third-story room though.”

“A rappel rope and belay device may not be a bad idea. Only need much cheaper static line for rappelling, probably get away with 1/4 inch nylon from local hardware store, or even the real cheap polypropylene.

That's almost 100 feet and would make a good and safe double for a thirty foot rappel.”

I would feel a lot safer rapelling than trying to descend hand over hand that distance.
