Need Help: BIg Bend and Guadalupe Trip Itenary
Hey guys, plan to do the following during Thanksgiving break;

Guadalupe Natonal Park:

day 1: Pine Spring Visitior Center to Dog canyon via bush mtn trail

day 2: Dog Canyon to McKittrick Canyon Visitior Center via Mckittrick Canyon Trail

day 3: McKittrick Canyon Visitor Center back to Pine Spring Visitor Center via Tejas Trail

I rather not stay at the Visitor center but according to them, the visitor center is the only place where i can replenish my water supply ( ??).

BIg Bend National Park

Outer MOuntain Loop (Dodson trail), Basin hiking the trail in clockwise Direction. DO I really need to stash water at Homer WIlson/Blue Creek Ranch ??

1 pound of water per person per day ?? comments ???

Thank You

day 3: Mckittrick Canyon Visitor Center

how much water is in a pound?

You'll need at least 2 litres - prolly a little more per day.

i think a pound of water is roughly a pint.

you need way more than a pint a day per person.

a gallon of water weighs 8 lbs, so a qt should be 2 lbs..I am not breaking it down to metric weights

A gallon is roughly 135 oz ??? which translate to about 4 1/2 nalgene bottles ?

A U.S. gallon is 128 fluid ounces.

You will need way more than 1 lb of water a day per person.

the amount of water you need to carry at any one time depends on how readily available water is along your route.

I don't know anything about that area - but in the Smokies I usually carry only one litre at a time because there's water all over the place.

Oh now I see that water is an issue.

Didn't a hiker die in Big Bend earlier this year because he got lost with no water? I can't find the thread or a news story.

i am still waiting for the official map from the park that indicates all mileage.

Does anybody know the following:

a) What is the distance from Pine Spring to DOg Canyon Via bush mtn trails ?

b) Distance from Dog Canyon to Mckittrick Canyon Visitor center

c) mileage from Mckittrick to Pine Springs via Tejas trail ?

The lady that i talked to from the park hastly estimate on average 13 -14 miles ??

Theres a thread on here somewhere about a Big Bend trip from last Dec. you might glean some useful info from it.
