You asked about medication on the other thread. I checked and one anti panic attack medication that is very useful is Atavan. The one important thing is that you can't drive after taking one.

Of course, I don't think it would be appropriate for pregnant women.

Xanax is a very effective beta blocker and does not inhibit driving. I am not a doctor, but I play one in real life.

Very habit-forming though.

Xanax is habit forming?

I only take it when I fly. I have had the same bottle of 30 pills for 3 years. It is just about empty.

From this page:

Alprazolam should not be administered to individuals prone to drug abuse. Caution should be observed in all patients who are considered to have potential for psychological dependence. Withdrawal symptoms have been observed after abrupt discontinuation of benzodiazepines. These include irritability, nervousness, insomnia, agitation, tremors, convulsions, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, vomiting and mental impairment. Since these symptoms may be similar to those for which the patient is being treated, it may appear that he has suffered a relapse upon discontinuation. It is suggested that alprazolam should be withdrawn gradually if the individual is suspected of having become dependent, or the drug perhaps has been used in prolonged high doses.

I had 10 that lasted me, uh, well, I still have one of them, and I got them in 1992.

I've been afraid to take any. At Christmas, 2 002 I drove up to northern Quebec to hunt caribou with my best buddy, his brother and Steve. My driving shift was over and we were eating dinner in a restaurant in Val D'Or.

I suddenly realised that I would be sitting in the back of an SUV for the next nineteen hours, would be in the Taïga for four days and then would be spending another 27 hours in the SUV ...

AND I'M AGOROPHOBIC!!!!!

Tha's when I started to shake and salad started flying. I hadn't thought about it because I thought I was cured, not just in remission.

I got the Atavan prescription from my doctor, but have always disliked medication and never felt I had to take it. Knowing I have it is probably sufficient.

BTW, my nickname is now 'Jiggley Puff'. BASTIDS!

It's classic agorophobia. The worry is probably losing control and being around others. I'm all right when it's me driving, or when I'm in the out-of-doors.

It's pretty muuch under control now.
