Ok, chili it is.

I just need to get the hamburger and canned goods transported to the campsite.

Is anyone going Thursday? Looks like Thanksgiving is not going to be a Happy day for me so I will be coming up Thursday to camp at Camp 5 Pond.

float plans....
The key word to remember as much as possible is "FLOAT"

I am assumining that the approximate time that boats will be starting to load will be around 9:00 a.m. I really hope that we can be pushing off nlt 10:00, earlier if possible. The forturnate thing about river travel is that it is pretty hard to get lost.

We will stop at Turner's Mill about 4.5 miles downriver and take a short hike to see what remains of an old overshoot type mill & Turner's Spring. This stop also will be a lunch spot and has an outhouse available.

The Saturday night campsite will be at White's Creek floatcamp (which is where Divinity, Cottensocks, & Trooper were waiting for Stickmon & Dutch Oven Dave their previous trip).

Sunday float trip should be similar. We will stop at Boze Mill to take a short hike to see the Mill remains & Boze Spring.

Your choice of shoes to wear will be dependent a great deal upon the temperature. Depending upon the temperature, I will wear sandals or some rubber boots. I recommend having sturdy shoes packed (in a dry bag) but readily available.

Floaters need to remember -- NO Glass Containers! Bring your fishing MO. license if you intend to try your luck. The first 4.5 miles of the trip are within a Trophy Management Area and only artificial lures are allowed.

Don't forget your camera, we should see eagles if the weather is cool and the river traffic is low.

I will probably be wearing my sandals and sealskinz socks. Taking my trail runners with me in a dry bag

Davinity...
I'll have dry bags at my house that You can borrow. Dave, I will be bringing all my gear...what can float, will float, what can't will stay in the truck. The only thing that MUST go, will be tent and sleeping bag and clothes...my cooler with beer, food, etc...we'll have all day friday to figure that out...

To anyone that needs a canoe...the Bunnie is available, but, If I'm not asked to bring her, she will stay drydocked.

What's the plan for Friday/Friday night?

Also, could you bring my truck key and whatever else you have been so gratuitously storing for me?

I'm optimistic that we will make this.

Ewker

11/18/04

worked out details with....
Mather and DOD...friday will consist of basecamping at Greer and doing day hikes either on the OT, Greer/McCormick trail, going for fire wood, fishing or whatnever as personages arrive during the day. Friday nite eating festivities will be performed by Mather, with me acting as suchef (this will be a first for me not being master chef). DOD will be making desert of his choosing, but i SURE hope it will be something chocolate.

sat breakfast will be fast and easy while base camp is broken down and packed up for transport to Whites Creek. We need to be heading to our respective journey's early.

Sat nights food will be created by Chili and Mozark. I'll have my tripod and dutch oven along too, so that multi things can be cooking at the same time.

YES!!!! this going to be a classic trip...someone make sure that there is a camera along for photo taking.
stikmon

since we aren't floating till Sat. will we do the shuttle of cars ourselves or will the outfitter be doing it for us. If they do it how much is the cost.

Stikky.....are there bathrooms????
divinity
4:48:07 PM
11/19/04

bathrooms
Out houses available at greer----no running water available at the campground.

there are several outhouses on the rivertrip, the one at our saturday night location has seen it's better days so behind a tree in the woods will be my choice.
dutch oven dave
4:59:48 PM

shuttle fees
typical shuttle fee is $25 at the outfitter we normally use. we may be able to work self shuttling on Friday or something

11/20/04

excellant!!!
If all show up, who say they are showing up, then we will have 21 personages at greer on friday night. On friday night, in between adult beverages, we will go over shuttle details and plan gear for whites creek on Sat night.

This is gonna ROCK!!! This could rival any other trip that took place this year. For those that have never been here before...the hike through the Irish is great. Its a nice hike...but the float down the 11 Points is magical. I'd much rather float it, but can't cause of Khatru. So, if you have a choice...I'd really recommend floating it. The woods are just ordinary woods, except for all of the Wood Elves and Leprechuans that live there...now thats pretty impressive...the trolls, goblins, wargs and orcs were vanquished long ago.4 days! see ya there~

11/21/04

SHHHHHHHH.....Stikky....it is a secret how wonderful a place it is......

Is the river going to be deeper and swifter due to rain???

and I have 2 dry bags.....I am worried about cargo space tho.....

and...should I bring my spray skirt?...( I really am not fond of it) and unless it is rough water don't need it anyway

My roomy insists on baking a pecan pie and sending it.....I guess maybe it is to bribe y'all cause you are putting up with me for the weekend.....I figured I would bring veggies and some dip for those vegitarians....can ya think of anything else???/....I am a great cook....BUT I can't compete with this bunch....so I am not going to try......I am looking forward to tasting Chili's chili!!!

is there rain in the forcast??....should I bring my bigger tent for car camping????

WOW...so many questions and so little time!!!!

SNOW
..Don't panick, but it's there in the forcast, you will all be at the southern edge of a predicted snowfall...so at least plan for cold temps!

Divinity,

A little late on some of your questions over the past few days but..

(1) Greers Springs Campground is our put in point on the river.

(2) It might be easier to pack two tents. One for the float and one for basecamp.

(3) I suspect the river willl be up a little but unless they get a couple of inches on Thursday or Friday it should be pretty nice.

(4) I'd bring the skirt just in case. If it rains Sunday you might find it warmer and dryer. We are taking the skirt for that particular reason. (Aaron and Mary have decided to kayak instead of hiking.)

(5) Don't forget raingear.

(6) Expect temperature to be in mid to upper 30s Saturday night.

Drop me an email and I'll put you in touch with Mather to coordinate those veggies etc for Friday night. mconner@varco.com

I simulated the loading of my canoe this weekend and the garage floor cracked under the weight. "I need a bigger boat"

Cottonsocks & Jgiles are joining us - oh yeah we are going to have a great time!

Counting the days!

upwards now of....
20 personages!!!! cool.

Bring whatever you want, since you'll be driving. We will sort out gear on friday night at the campground...remember, we will be base camped for a 24 hour period, so, bring whatever you will want for comfort. One way or another, it will all get downriver.

Looking forward to seeing that Newbie JGiles again. I think that if you haven't been ontrail for a 12 month period, you become a newbie again.

turn onto...
19 at alton and go all the way until you cross the bridge, turn right and head in, then turn left to the camping area. You'll find us pretty easy...look for the monster glow from the monster fire. Its real easy to find. bring pizza!!!! cold is not a worry, we can always warm it up, or eat it cold.

Thanks for the info.....I guess I will bring my big tent for car camping..and pack my backpacking tent...

My email isn't working very well...sometimes not at all..I can recieve....but not send out mail...grrrrrrrr.......

Ok...ok..I'll dig out the skirt......grrrrr....I am not comfortable in it...should I wear fishnet hose with it????

Super..I have never camped in the snow....woooohooooooo!!!!!

so maybe my down bag isn't a good idea????

Stikky...ya going to bring "MY" chair????
divinity
4:43:56 PM

AND...I get Friday off without being wrote up cause I worked so hard during our "crisis"

that and crying will get you almost anything!!!!!!!

But I lose my Thanksgiving pay........oh well ..it will be worth it......

Ok, car camping Friday night and hiking in on Saturday? Correct?

I am hiking in on the South Loop Saturday (about 8 miles).

Coming back out the same way on Sunday.

Are we camping at the spot on the river where we where in October on Sat night?
