Well it looks like the Big Banana..
will be floating this weekend...add a Carolina 14.5 to the list of vessels...I will be there (Greer) either Thursday night about 9 or so, or Friday noonish if I decide to leave on Friday morn...

This trip is shaping up to be a legendary TT Event...couldn't miss it...

secret trip reminder
everyone who reads this thread must be reminded if anyone asks about the trip, the reply is that they floated the Current River. The true rivername for the trip must be kept a secret.

The river is on the rise... gone up about 2 inches during the last 24 hours. I have mixed thoughts about it going up. Going up means a dirty looking river but a quicker and less scratchy float. Another 18 inches in the river would make a nice float.

Below is the link to the nearest river guage (the takeout at riverton).

with the chili's not coming...
we must have a volunteer chef for Sat evening. the quantity of food needs to be substantial to feed this mass of humanity. Mozark...you gonna do chili, or should I maybe pick up a sow and we can slaughter it and roast it on the river?

This is important...I sure don't want to go hungry on Sat night.

crap, no one is probably gonna see this in time to step up. I wasn't prepared to bring a huge quantity of food as I won't be floating, but I'll check this tomorrow and see what gives. Nite all. Happy t-day. see ya all soon!

Welcome aboard ST. Lookin forward to hangin with ya.

Great Cooking!
"Someone" wanted to rename this trip "Blazing Paddles" due to the quanity of dutch oven baked beans consumed! LOL Hmmm..how creative we TT-ers can be around a campfire..er, bonfire. Yes, that's right Stikky (or is Stumpy your new TT name now?), NASA called and said they saw your fire clear into outer space (again!)

Well, the weather dampened everything but our spirits. The floaters got into the raging river and the hikers hiked off into the early morning drizzle. Me? Well, me and Mather had an eventful trip back to Little Rock, Arkansas dealing with two flat tires on my truck. Fortunately, two fellow brothers in the EMS community came to our help and we were back on the road in less than two hours.

Me and my two boys got home about a half hour ago and now becomes the lovely task of unpacking all that wet gear. Oh boy!!

Hope everyone else gets out safe and has an un-eventful trip back home. Great seeing all you TT-ers again and meeting new friends!

Take care Y'all!

Thanks to all I had a great time.
What a weekend. Wanted to see an eagle instead I sighted eagles 20 times. A little rain but, thats a river recharge in progress. Food was fantastic, although the wet suit started fitting a little tighter. Weather a bit cold but not bad for darn near December. Special thanks to dutch oven dave and Hufstedlers for arranging to get a wayward camera on its way home. As soon as its home I will post the photos on Webshots. Finally, the quote of the trip:
I was not trying to give you tongue, I just wanted to taste your tequilia.

Don't Forget!
Hey, you promised the recipe for that non-perishable ingredient cobbler - remember? You know, the one with the 7-up! I also want the sausage, gravy and bisquit recipe from DOD. I know, can you say, Jimmy Dean?? LOL

Hey Stumpy...er, Sticky Stumpy...or whatever you were renamed - LOL - had a blast but I still don't understand you yelling "I love you" at the top of your lungs on the way to the pit toilet. Someone help me out here with an explanation?? ;-)

Cobbler Recipe
In a 10 inch dutch lined with aluminium foil place two cans of pie filling. I used strawberry and peach. Then cover with a yellow cake mix. I used a cheap store brand mix. Then pour one can 12 onces 7-up or lemon lime soda poo on top of that. Be sure to pour the soda evenly across the cake mix to moisten all the cake mix. Cover and place 25 coals on the dutch 17 on top and 8 on bottom. Cook for 40 minutes. I usually pull three coals from the bottom about 20 minutes into the cooking time. Because I am affraid the sugar in the pie filling will burn but so far that has never happened.

I have also heard of using cherry pie filling, a choclate cake and then topping after cooking with vanilla instant pudding to make a type of black cherry cobbler cake.

bisquits & gravy
no secrets really...

mix up some bisquit mix per directions on \"Bisquik\" or from your cookbook reciepe

I used jimmy dean sausage & jimmy dean gravy mix. Cook the Sausage, drain the grease off (there usually is very little if you use jimmy dean). dump the gravy mix on top of the sausage in the dutch oven and add water per directions. put the oven back on the heat & stir per directions on the package. When the gravy has thickened, reduce the bottom heat to a few coals around the outside edge of the dutch oven and then \'drop\' the bisquits on top of the gravy & sausage mixture as you would if you were making dumplings. When the bisquit mix is in the oven i usually \'build a fire on top\' of the oven. Without refering to any recipe, I think bisquits bake around 450 degrees. The major trick in this method is to have the gravy HOT when you put the bisquit mix on top so you can just keep it warm without burning the gravy on the bottom since you can no longer stir the gravy. You have to quickly get oven temp to baking temp for the bisquits, otherwise the bisquits get dried out, don\'t brown, and the gravy will get cold. On our last outing, I used a 14" oven, 2 lbs of sausage, 6 cups of gravy, 2? cups of bisquit mix.

One last trick.... get someone else to help so you can blame them if it doesn't turn out.
