Ooh if camping at the nto so backcountry site, please beware of the hoards of raccoons. No kidding. There will be a circle of them around your camp and they are not affraid of you or your fire.

Freakin ate my breakfest and it was hanging in a tree! Mike may or may not go. He's not into 'walking' any more (rolls eyes) His words, not mine lol. Oh well. If Mike has to work on Saturday the 6th I wont be there untill sunday but hopefully he wont have to so I can have the car.

I'm being nosy on your thread SC. I'm looking for some trips in October. May plan one myself once I can nail down some dates. Where is Shades? Can I crash your party?

Stomper, sure thing!!! :) Shades is in Indiana. Its a neat little place. You won't believe it's Indiana when you are there. There really isn't backpacking per say but you can carry your pack if you want to. Very steep trails that are slick when wet...and its dangerous for trecking poles LOL Right mean?

West central Stomper. You would be litterally 30 minutes or less from my house. If you two have never been to turkey run we should go there too. It's even more exageratedly out of place.

You could probably be up there in about 3 to 4 hours. It would be a straight shot up 41 through Terre Haute. It's easy to find. The cool thing about the two parks is that they are like 10 minutes appart, and your reciept from one will get you into the other. I think out of state passes are like $7.

I think it's like $15 per site, and you have to buy firewood, and register with the rangers etc. I've only done it once. The sites are established. Just like a carcamping site that you can't drive to unless you wear a green uniform with a badge.

Will yall chip in to help me pay for the out of state pass? jk :)

I know, it's kinda expensive. These parks are not the type we usually go to either. I would consider them entirely "front country". They are pretty though.

Not going there SC! It looked interesting but to many miles in day for me. Aren't they doing like 15 a day?

no stomper, there is one day they are doing 13 miles. But the other days are shorter.
