oh my goodies. all this talk about me when i'm not even around to post.

1) i was wearing a fleece sweatshirt the whole time (it's cold and damp here). it was covering most of the "kerry/edwards" emblem on my chest.

2) cell phones are allowed in line. just not in the room where the actual voting took place. anyway, i had my sound turned off, even in line. i only knew he called cause i happened to look at my phone to check the time

3) no one kicked me out. no one asked me to remove my shirt. voting went w/out a hitch. one hour and one minute. not too bad.

at the church where i voted just now, the yard was filled with political signs, and people were handing out fliers right outside the door! i guess they thought they could still change someone's mind about who/what they were going to vote for, LOL!

I think so...I want to go to a system like a DRAFT, Representatives are informed they are to serve 4 years, Senators serve 6 years. You fill out a questionaire when you register to vote. If selected it is like Military Duty ...

But after your time you know you HAVE to return home and live with the laws you have made.

One other idea that I heard in the 1980's was to build a GIANT walled compound in Washington, near the Congress. That would be the Apartments for the Congress. They would be nice luxury apartments and would be given out much like the offices are given after an election.
It would eliminate the need for an apartment near the Congress, and a House in Virginia ...etc....

I was very pleased with the system they had in my district. The touch screen voting machines were fine and the verification was air tight. If the dems lose in Ohio it ain't from voting fraud.

We still get to pull levers here in NY. It will be nice to be able to watch TV again without seeing about 5 nasty political ads every commercial break.

We have the fill out the oval and feed the mega scantron from into the machine. Two years ago, when you feed in the form, you could see what the person voted, but they have since corrected that.

You said the verifaction was "air tight". How so?

Speaking of. CNN just reported multiple failures (my paraphrase) of those touch screens in your state and Indiana.

Hope your vote counted!

"Professor Laq...becuase he SAID SO. JEEZE are only academic types given this overwhelming power?"

Easy, now. Let's not get nasty. I was just inquiring about that system and how it makes sure that the voter can cast their ballot in a private and secure matter. I haven't voted via the thouch screen and I am just curious about the experiance and process.

In Ohio you have to show an ID of some sort, the 100 year old lady matches you up to you entry in the voter registration while another person is verifying on a separate register then you sign. The whole thing is overseen by the precinct head. Then you get an access card, you step up to the lap top looking screen and put the card in. It's stupid simple. At the end it verifies with you what you voted for and then each screen gets printed into a receipt type roll of paper.

I do wish they would have the machine put out a paper receipt you would put in the voter box for had reverification if necessary.

The vote print out stays on the role. In the case of a crash or recount they have the votes. And it's not a matter of a vote not counting. Two points from CNN:

#1)About a third of voters were using new equipment, and problems in several states were reported right out of the gate. The government deployed a record number of poll watchers to the many competitive races across the country.

#2)Glitches delayed voters in dozens of Indiana and Ohio precincts. In Delaware County, Indiana, officials planned to seek a court order to extend voting after an apparent computer error prevented voters from casting ballots in 75 precincts.

Delayed. Not erased or didn't count.

"At the end it verifies with you what you voted for and then each screen gets printed into a receipt type roll of paper."

Ah, perfect. This what I was wondering about. This is a good idea, because if there were an issue, I'm sure you could use this to verify your vote.

That's good. Hopefully the delay doesn't impact voter turn out.

I wish we had machines like that here. Our electronic machines have absolutely no verification or paper trail.

What county are you in Nigal? I'd like to find out more about those machines and help push for them here.

I think the politicians and their appointees should be assigned to stand in a public location. The Voters will come up and be allowed a free "kick" in the TARGET. If you want to be a politicians you need to be kicked in the gnip gnops.
