Layers equals warm trapped air, so it sounds reasonable.

Campmor has a couple of different emergency bivvy bags, one being 4 ply for layering

I wonder if they make a hat. It could serve double duty as insulation to keep your noggin warm AND a protective barrier from alien mind probes.

The Blizzard Survival Bag weighs slightly more at 350 grammes, has a drawcord closure so it can be made into a hooded bag and is rated at 8 TOGs making it equivalent to a medium warm sleeping bag.

What is the conversion factor for a TOG?

Actually, that's been round for years and years. In Europe they use a group sack that you can put at least three people in.

Campmor has a heavier duty emergency bivy sack for about 30 $ that seems more rugged. I've been thinking of getting it for a winter VBL in my sleeping bag because my Serratus VBL is too tight. Does anyone have some experience with this? The lightweight reflective bags don't last a night with me.

But they make so much noise when you sleep in one. I used one when my tent started to leak in a down pour. I put it over my sleeping bag to keep it from getting wet.
It kept it dry, and me warm, but the NOISE
every time you moved wakes you up.

The emergency bag from campmor does not make noise, it is made of tyvek. I use a campmor emergency blanket of the same tyvek matterial for a ground cloth.

bbw, that's the one I have - it's not made of tyvek though. It doesn't make noise, but it tears easily.
