This is where I'm going to sound like a Republican and will probably recieve quite a bit of grief for the following satement.

I don't think it should be so easy for people with little to offer to the States to be able to gain easy access, bring the system down, and drain the economy. I would prefer that those individuals coming into the country to make the big bucks & leave, would stay because they actually have high level skills, high levels of education, money, - in other words, can make a truely positive contribution to the States.

I'm tired of seeing our high level positions going to people from outside countries - living here only for a brief period of time to make their gains - because our education system is so weak that our own people don't have the neccessary skills for these roles. I'm also tired of seeing our lower level jobs being taken away from our people and going to 2nd & 3rd world level folks because they are so desperarte for work and money that they will work for peanuts.”

I do read newspapers from the US, UK, NZ, and very occasionally Australia. I do watch the news on cable TV from the BBC and a German News program that comes on our cable because the local high schools have a strong German language program.
I have travelled through Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria and have some idea of living conditions there. I also lived and worked in a 3rd world country for several years, different from touristing.

I would expect that my opinions would differ from yours as on something as basic as where to live you choose the city, and I the country.”

The figure you quoted for the cost of the war is incorrect. That figure is the total spent on the War on Terror not just Iraq. Besides, most of that money is being used to pay US companies.”

Periodic weakening of his military structure gives them opportunity, if they do not take the opportunity why should we force it on them.

Any refusal by Saddam to allow UN inspectors to a site should have been responded to with a wing of B-52's carpet bombing the facility within a couple of hours.

The invasion of Iraq was a result of years of irresolution by the UN. The UN would not act because internal corruption was making some of them rich. Why is a French or German Haliburton so much better than a US Haliburton ?”

Legions of lawyers couldn’t help the left. Their base is mostly concentrated in the cities and areas with large percentages of bureaucrats on the government payroll. NY voted overwhelmingly for Kerry. Kalifornia voted overwhelmingly for Kerry. Illinois voted for Kerry. Washington D.C. voted 90% for Kerry.


But what happened to the other Democrats?

What happened to the scholastically isolated? Those champions of the “working man” who chat over coffee in the halls of academia with their Karl Marx coffee table books and their illogical philosophical justifications?

What happened to the reality isolated Hollywood types? Those champions of the “working man” who cruise the high seas on their private yachts, cruise the skies in their private planes, criticize SUVs, and pretend-play at understanding the “working man.”

What happened to the socially isolated, artistically inclined, brie and chablis set with their Volvos and season tickets to the local playhouse? Those who think it’s chic to think of themselves as friends of the”working man.”

What happened to the angry, Michael Moore, ABB, “liberal” left?

What happened to the socialist left who see government as a growth industry? Those who keep calling for “strong” government so that they can increase their voting base and bleed productive members of society dry while distributing other people’s money as they see fit?



In the end it came down to the “working man.” It came down to the heartland of America. It came down to the real “working man” in the rural areas of the country.

Morality was a huge issue according to exit polls. The same morality that makes it impossible for most rural folks to ethically justify the forced redistribution of wealth through taxation.

Florida was a microcosm. The big city populations and government centers voted Democrat. The “working man” rural areas voted Republican.

Our office was a microcosm. Two of our top directors and our VP voted Democrat. All of our support (secretarial) staff voted Republican.

I’ll bet there are many Democrats who are in shock. They lost the presidential election, lost seats in Congress, lost 4 seats in the Senate, and the Senate minority leader was deposed. I’ll bet there are many Democrats who don’t know anyone who voted Republican.

The Democrats are deluding themselves if they think they are champions of the “working man.” Their tax-and-spend giveaways to the economically challenged don’t play well with the average “working man” who works hard to put food on his family’s table. Their condescending view of government as paternalistic caretaker doesn’t play well with the average “working man.” Most Democrats are completely out of touch with the average “working man.”
