Hillary 2008 VS ???View Messages“lol! Lyra's on a roll here, folks!” 1:02:49 PM 1/13/05 “I would never vote for someone based on male or female. That's just wrong.” 1:06:32 PM 1/13/05 “Yeah, lyra is sooooo evil!! Dubya's hot flashes are probably flash-backs.” 1:07:54 PM 1/13/05 “well, i don't mean ANY woman for president would rock...i wouldn't vote for Ann Coulter. i just mean i personally think it's an extra bonus, if i already like someone's politics.” 1:08:51 PM 1/13/05 “Men have made a mess of things. Women couldn't do any worse.” 1:10:20 PM 1/13/05 “and plus, we've never had anything but a white, male president. snore!” 1:11:12 PM 1/13/05 “A white male protestant, with the exception of JFK. How about a black female voodoo chick? Maybe Bearmagnet knows one or two. last edited: 1/13/05 1:15:47 PM” 1:12:54 PM 1/13/05 “ ”1:13:04 PM 1/13/05 “Well he11, we have all known 'Her Adorableness' is pure evil, but still we adore her. ;-)” 1:17:08 PM 1/13/05 HERE'S YOUR GIRL! “ ”1:22:25 PM 1/13/05 “Well, she's white, but...” 1:23:06 PM 1/13/05 “that poll reflects nothing more than current name recognition. One of the arguments against universal vote is that voters are incredibly apathetic and a large number just vote for the name they recognize with absolutely no idea which candidate actually most closely represents their point of view. Of course that would also imply that these politicians would actually attempt to keep the promises and positions they touted when running for office.” 2:52:23 PM 1/13/05 “I agree, ped. It's about style in relation to a number of issues. For me it comes down to what style I want for healthcare. It's a complicated issue, but I vote no to a government run program such as Hillary advocated before.” 3:20:01 PM 1/13/05 “If you look at the current state of our health care system and it's effect on our economy, you might realize her plan was very proactive. last edited: 1/13/05 3:23:54 PM” 3:22:29 PM 1/13/05 “If you look at the economies of England, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, ... you might realize it was retroactive.” 3:49:37 PM 1/13/05 “stop looking at the economies of the US and other places. Look at the number of people who will be unable to afford healthcare and prescriptions. Insurance rates just keep going up, drug companies are making a killing. something has to change!” 3:52:13 PM 1/13/05 ““I agree, ped. It's about style in relation to a number of issues. Hillary has enough dirt under the bed and skeletons in the closet that I don't even think she'd be runable. She has begun to put on a more centrist face though even though she's not as liberal as Kerry. the universal heathcare issue is my main problem too.” 3:56:59 PM 1/13/05 “Nigal, do you pay into Medicare through your paycheck? then in a way you do have universal healthcare except you don't get to use it yet. Kind of like social security” 4:19:11 PM 1/13/05 “Bill Richardson is the man. He can pull the Southwest for the Democrats. There is no reason to think that the next election will be fundamentally different than the last two. So, the key is selecting someone who can swing a few states one way or another. Hilary - NY - is out. Kerry - MA - is out. Richardson could pull the Southwest and Catholic vote. That would be enough to win.” 6:54:55 PM 1/13/05 “Barack Obama. He's the only name I've heard thrown around that I would even consider.” 8:56:57 PM 1/13/05 “MarkO, don't EVER say that. Believe me, it (any situation) can always get worse. I liked Lieberman as a Democrat candidate. I remember watching the Bush/Gore and Cheney/Lieberman debates and thinking that the two parties should switch their candidates. Obviously the two more intelligent candidates were running for VP. There will probably be some names that we aren't aware of yet. It is harder to run as a Congressman or Senator. Congressman and Senators have national voting records that can be bashed. No matter how you vote you're going to upset someone. I agree with Bison. I think Governor is a safer bet. Ewker, healthcare is probably the toughest issue of our day. There are so many factors involved; I’d like to see more dialogue. Our politicians love to frame issues in simplistic ways (I never bought into the weapons of mass destruction argument so I’m not now going to pretend to get indignant about how I was lied to), because crowd dynamics is much different from individual dynamics (did anyone enjoy The Foundation Trilogy as much as I did?). The mainstream media report political views with their own biased spin. I’m going to try to find time to read as much as I can on this subject. I don’t believe there is a single “silver bullet” that will improve our healthcare situation. What we need to do is more individual research. Maybe some folks here can help to educate me. It does bother me when a few well meaning “liberals” talk about how we must improve healthcare for the poor. As if the poor were the only ones effected. What if you come up with a wonderful socialized medicine plan that’s great for the poor but is worse for everyone else? It seems to me that we should try to find solutions that help the greatest number of people. That won’t be solved by simplistic political rhetoric. There is a reason the Austin Powers had ugly teeth. It’s a poke at the mediocre socialized medicine system they have in England. The wait for care in those systems can be very long unless you need emergency treatment. The US has the most advanced medical care in the world. If you think our economy is weak and faces a social security and Medicare problem in the future, wait to you see what happens to Europe. Their economies are weaker than ours is now. They’re going to be in real trouble as their population ages and the bill for their socialized safety nets come due.” 6:28:59 AM 1/14/05 “"I liked Lieberman as a Democrat candidate." I would have voted for him in a heartbeat. He's the last of a dying breed of Reagan democrats. Liberal enough to care and conservative enough to get the tough stuff done. He's just not appealing enough to the masses though and he's not the most charismatic guy.” 7:42:31 AM 1/14/05 “Hillary v McCain???” 10:40:38 PM 1/14/05 “Everybody keeps stating that Europe has a failing economy. Maybe I need to take a refresher in economics to understand how a failing economy can have a stronger currency.” 2:42:42 PM 1/15/05
