Bingo MarkO! The rural folk think they're so independent, yet the urban folk are subsidizing their rural infrastructure and lifestyle. When asked how our Republican Congressman in Montana could justify pork spending in rural states (like Montana) who get back $3-4 for every federal dollar they pay in taxes, he replied "The rest of the country needs to make sure we're part of the 21st Century." Maybe urban folks should have some more say in how the rural minority spends their money.

I kind of like the setup they have in Maine. As i understand it each congressional district has an electoral vote, and the two senate votes go with the states popular vote.

Does that mean that rural folks will get a say in how urban areas spend theirs?

I shouldn't complain; the rest of the country subsidizes our rural air service, communications, highways, hospitals, schools, farmers, ranchers (on marginal land I might add) here in Montana. Anywhere else you'd call it Socialism.

haha.

maybe if the urbanites don't want to spend on the rural areas they should start growing their own food and raising there own livestock.

one can't exist without the other. that doesn't mean one group voted out of ignorance.

yes, pat, i'd like to buy a vowel.

Baume - well they can just set up an import deal for food and livestock into the cities. After all - these farmers still need a market. ;o)

States that recieve over 110% of the taxes they send to Washington and voted for Bush:

Alabama
Alaska
Arizona
Arkansas
Idaho
Kansas
Kentucky
Louisiana
Mississippi
Missouri
Montana
North Dakota
Oklahoma
South Carolina
South Dakota
Tennessee
Utah
Virginia
West Virginia
Wyoming

I know this geographic welfare is not good for the soul. We should end it now.

The Republican used the oldest trick in the books....they bought votes.

Vote for me and I will give you money.

The bill will come due....after this country goes bankrupt.

...Bush has the lowest approval rating of any president at this point in his second term, according to Gallup polls going back to World War II.

Bush's erosion of support among independents in particular has helped bring his overall approval rating down to 45 percent. Fort-nine percent disapprove of his performance.

Compare Bush's numbers, as of the most recent Gallup poll, to the previous six presidents who served second terms:

Clinton: 59 percent approval versus 35 percent disapproval

Reagan: 56 percent versus 37 percent disapproval

Nixon: 57 percent versus 34 percent

Johnson: 69 percent versus 21 percent

Eisenhower: 65 percent versus 20 percent

Truman: 57 percent versus 24 percent

continued...

Maybe that's because Bush does the right thing despite what the popularity polls say.
