City councilmen should work for free.

Considering that our largest employer is the government, my town is a “progressive” little town.

Two of our more “progressive” city commissioners think it’s a violation of their secular (certainly not God-given) rights to swear an oath to The Constitution of the United States. The way most “liberal” government employees act, they may have a point. Why should they swear loyalty to their country just because they are supposed to be public representatives for the citizens of said country?

http://www.gainesville.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061213/LOCAL/61213006&SearchID=73266559610901

“… The oath is in Florida law and, at one time, included a clause asking employees to state they are not members of the Communist Party. …”

Well if their objection was, at one time, a reference in the state law to their swearing to reject Communism, they have a right to reject such nonsense. “Progressives” would be lying if they were forced to renounce anything related to socialist principles.

“… In 1982 then-Attorney General Jim Smith issued an opinion stating the communist clause was unconstitutional. …”

Wadda ya know? It was taken out. Our “liberal” little county just decided not to enforce the law that requires our public servants to swear an oath to The Constitution of the United States.

“…In 1996 then-Attorney General Bob Butterworth issued an opinion that the oath is required. … ”

And our “progressive” little county just continued to ignore the law that requires our public servants to swear an oath to The Constitution of the United States. Attorney General Bob Butterworth is a Democrat. But apparently he’s not far enough to the left for our current “liberal” commissioners.

I had lots of fun reading the responses in our “progressive” little town

There was a whole chorus of sheep dredging up one of their favorite boogey-men to scare the children:

That’s right! We can equate swearing loyalty to The Constitution of the United States to McCarthyism! Wait till our service personnel find out!

That’s right! Loyalty to your country is just McCarthyism!

How dare our public servants be required to swear an oath to defend The Constitution of the United States!

I’ll bet everyone who has ever served in the military is just OUTRAGED that they had to swear such an oath. I for one never had a clue that I was contributing to the spread of McCarthyism.

We should also inform Immigration and Naturalization to stop their practice of requiring new citizens to swear to support and defend The Constitution of the United States. Unless, of course, their name is McCarthy.

http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/04/08/rockefeller-apologizes-for-saying-mccain-doesnt-care-about-lives-of-war-bystanders/

Democratic Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a Barack Obama supporter, apologized to John McCain Tuesday for suggesting to a West Virginia newspaper that the Arizona senator does not care about “the lives of people” caught in the wars he champions, dating back to his Navy service in Vietnam.

The apology came after Barack Obama’s campaign swiftly criticized the West Virginia senator for the remarks quoted Monday in his hometown newspaper. Rockefeller told The Charleston Gazette that McCain is too far removed from the repercussions of war to deal with them.

“McCain was a fighter pilot, who dropped laser-guided missiles from 35,000 feet. He was long gone when they hit,” Rockefeller told the newspaper, which published the article on the interview Tuesday. “What happened when they [the missiles] get to the ground? He doesn’t know. You have to care about the lives of people. McCain never gets into those issues,” he is quoted saying.

They had laser guided missiles in Nam? And since when do fighter pilots do bombing runs from 35,000'?

from FoxNews

Former President Jimmy Carter is reportedly preparing an unprecedented meeting with the leader of Hamas, an organization that the U.S. government considers one of the leading terrorist threats in the world.
The Arabic-language newspaper Al-Hayat reported Tuesday that Carter was planning a trip to Syria for mid-April, during which he would meet with Khaled Meshal, the exiled head of the Palestinian terror group Hamas, on April 18.

The willingness of the leftists/Demorats to attack veterans and our military is beyond stunning.

These attack slurs and then lukewarm "apologies" are looking more and more like Obana Standard Operating Procedure.
