Long Distance Thru-Hiking

“Hi. my name is Crash! Bang! (GA-ME '04) and i am an AT addict. im starting this thread for anyone who has done a thru-hike of any long distance trail, or has questions about long distance thru-hiking. and because i really, really wish i was back on the trail.”

dont i wish! if i could, i probably would, defineitely in 06 if i could. however i would like to do the long trail and the wonderland trail before i do an end to end of the AT again. if i could only do a section of the trail, say, a quarter of the trail, id do damascus to harpers ferry or kent to katahdin”

“as a note of interest, milemonster completed an AT thru-hike this year, and g-force has done most of the long trail and is planning an AT thru-hike next year”

“I'd like to hike the long trail at some point. Did the Northville-Placid trail last summer, which is the only long distance trail in the Adirondacks. Had a blast.”

“Even though you have endeared youself to the AT you won't regret exploring other parts of the country”

“Nothing like the AT, it's only 122 miles, but it goes through some of the most remote areas in the park.”

“that would be awesome lz. how many days did you take? did you do any re-supply?”

“My cousin and I did it in 10 days with a couple drops. At one of them a friend brought us subs and a 6 pack. We set it up so it was at our halfway point for that day. We showered in the spillway of a dam while we waited for him to show up. I'd like to do that trail again only take 15 days so I can do some side trips.”

“Don't forget the North Country Trail. After Michigan, New York has the most completed sections of it, and a large chunk of it crosses the southern Adirondacks...

Also in NY: The Finger Lakes Trail (500 miles from the Catskills to Allegheny State Park), and the NY Long Path (250 miles from Fort Lee (NJ) to Schenectady. When complete, it's supposed to go all the way to the Canadian border. Unfortunately, outside of Harriman and the Catskills, the Long Path still has a lot of roadwalks...”
