Is your show going to be anti-American songs? and tons of 60s folk music?
Sarge

No, I never heard of that show, Sarge.

And the thrust of this is seriously to celebrate a great country. But, that also means touching upon everything from serious renditions of patriotic music to intelligent protest music (no jokes-there was lots of that to choose from). The idea is to hit several avenues to make a comprehensive and well rounded show. This is a serious effort, not an opportunity to take pot shots at the administraion. That's not what I am there for...

Do you know of Mike Read?
Sarge

And also, I should say, that lots of the songs are just rock songs (many that we all may know) that have America or USA in the title or subject matter, without any heavy political message behind it.

The idea is to have fun and I have been trying to move the show towards this theme type thing...

Oh your flag decal won't get you into heaven anymore
It's already overcrowded from your dirty little war
Jesus don't like killing no matter what the reason's for
And your flag decal won't get you into heaven anymore

It's ironic how he says Jesus wouldn't approve what you do, and then he says he hopes they die. LOL.

hypocrite

(actually, the New Testament gives power to the government to wage war)

1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. 6This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. 7Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

Hey, I thought it was and I was trying to comply with you as a potential listener. But I should have known better. Do me a favor, Sarge This is fun for me. If you want to piss on it, then go ahead. Just tell me now, so I can ignore your nasty, vindictive ass!

Treebeard - I said it wasn't a test.

If you're going to piss on soldiers, which soldiering is fun to me, then don't be surprised when the stand up and say something.

That is what you want, right Treebeard? Both sides of the story? ... maybe not

Have "fun".

Ok Geobeet. They are soldiers too, but if you want to call them pencil pushers, fine.

for taking a good hearted thing he is doing and twisting to become something mean.

not right

mapleleaf

mapleleaf - I was not turning it into anything mean. Reread my posts if you have to.

I criticized that song, which is a song that pisses on soldiers (or pencil pushers as Geo calls them).

Also, considering he considered playing that song, I said I hope he'd keep it a good hearted thing, as he said he would.

That's all.

Don't read into it.
Sarge

Mapleleaf - If Treebeard (and remember, I said "if") plays songs that rip on people that I believe stand for rightousness, that's my opinion. I'm expressing my view, as he expresses his through the music.

That's supposedly what the movement is all about. Letting people speak, even if they are wrong.

If you disagree with my viewpoints, that's fine. But don't be surprised if when you speak your mind (the music that is), that criticizes people, those people stand up for themselves.

mapleleaf - The songs were written for a reason. It's not reading into anything. I'm sure you know the songs had a purpose. If you think I'm reading into that purpose, well ... I respectfully disagree.

Read this Mapleleaf, and tell me I'm reading into it:

Come you masters of war
You that build the big guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

i got one for you.

Ballad Of The Green Beret
Staff Sgt. Barry Sadler

Fighting soldiers from the sky
Fearless men who jump and die
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Green Beret

Silver wings upon their chest
These are men Americas best
One hundred men will test today but
Only three win the Green Beret

Trained to live off natures land
Trained in combat hand to hand
Men who fight by night and day
Courage take from the Green Beret

(Choris)
Silver wings upon their chest
These are men Americas best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret

Back at home a young wife waits
Her Green Beret has met his fate
He has died for those oppressed
Leaving her this last request

Put silver wings on my sons chest
Make him one of Americas best
He'll be a man they'll test one day
Have him win the Green Beret

Next time, don't phrase it like it's a request, ok? I was going to try and appease you. By saying that I will write it on a list doesn't mean that I was going to play it. Radio guys do that all the time. Thanks for turning people off to this. I can't tell you how much I appreciate what you did. You pre-judged me and that's just plain wrong. But, you're never wrong, are you?

Please ignore what preceeded this. My original post for today (before I was so rudely diverted) was to promote Saturday's show. This is what I have in mind...

“Ok, we're programmed and pretty much ready to rock and roll on Saturday! Ole Tree (Captain America) Beard is going to salute the 229th birthday of our great nation. Songs of America!

This will include a wide array of approaches, as much has been written about the U.S.A.!

Join me! This will be a good one. I promise...

Treebeard - NOWHERE did I prejudge you. You jumped to conclusions. I did NOT intentionally phrase it as a request with the intent to deceive. You jumped to conclusions once again.

Mapleleaf - It's not a real soldier. It's a song that Dylan sings. It's a made-up conversation with the intent to piss on soldiers (pencil pushers). It's fantasy, with the intent to piss. All I was wondering is was this the kind of song that will be played on the show. If it was, as Treebeard led me to believe by putting it on his fake list, then I had a problem with it. But if it's truly not, as Treebeard contends, then great.

You 2 are very defensive.
