“Got back from the Walls early today and decided to finish up my photo album. Enjoy: Tophs Trips last edited: 11/14/04 6:16:49 PM” 6:16:16 PM 11/14/04 “Nice pics, Toph. The weather was perfect this weekend for your trip. It was overcast when I went and pics didn't do it justice.” 8:31:42 PM 11/14/04 “great pics!! thanks for sharing!” 8:57:50 PM 11/14/04 “Great pics. How was the place? It looks great? Did you wander off trail or is this mainly the route in?” 6:30:54 AM 11/15/04 “awesome pics” 7:53:19 AM 11/15/04 great photos... “Can't wait to go there! thanks. I hope that the water is lower, so I don't get my boots too terribly wet.” 10:06:14 AM 11/15/04 “Great pics! I can hardly wait for December to get here...” 10:18:14 AM 11/15/04 “Very nice Savage Gulf photos too. When in October was that? That may have to be my leaf trip for 2005.” 10:19:27 AM 11/15/04 “Absolutely beautiful. Reminded me alot of the Ozarks. I stayed on trail for the most part but would like to go back when I have more time to do some exploring up above the Walls. A couple of guys camping nearby said that there is an old road near the horse camp/pollyana springs that will take you up and around to the top and further upstream. It is possible to climb out of the Walls at the head and a couple of folks did while I was there but it seemed pretty risky to me without the proper gear. Great place...plenty of room for camping. The stream crossing right as you get to the campsite could be difficult, impassable even, after heavy rains. It was about a foot deep after this weeks rain. stikmon - bring some sandles and keep your boots dry. The last leg of the trail from the campground to the Walls is in very poor shape. Without my trekking poles, I would have ended up on my arse multiple times. Someone will get hurt on it if they haven't already. It may be easier to just boulder hop up and down the creek instead. Also, I went through Ft. Payne on the way up and Guntersville on the way back. I didn't time it but Ft. Payne seemed alot quicker. last edited: 11/15/04 10:31:57 AM” 10:27:17 AM 11/15/04 Savage Gulf “I'll have to check the exact dates this evening at home and let you know. With all the overlooks on the rim trails, it's perfect for a leaf trip as you can see. Just wish I had my newer camera back then.” 10:35:56 AM 11/15/04 “It seems like every year I try for a leaf trip and it just never works out. I've only been to Savage once and hope to go back. This looks like the best time to go. I did get an Ozarks trip a few years back at leaf peak. Very impressive.” 10:41:53 AM 11/15/04 “toph - I came across your website once upon a time and until I just checked your profile I didn't realize that was you. I'm in B'ham a good bit if you'd ever like to grab lunch.” 10:43:34 AM 11/15/04 “Dayhiker - sounds good...drop me a line the next time you are heading into town.” 11:38:07 AM 11/15/04
