As several of you know several of us had a hike in the Sipsey Wilderness of north Alabama. We set up a contest to take pictures and put up 24 of them for our TT buddies to vote on. The Pictures are up for your voting. The first place prize is a book titled Walking Sipsey. Pick 1 1st place picture, 1 2nd place picture and 1 3rd place picture. For scoring purposes a first place vote is worth 10 points, 2nd 7 points, and 3rd 5 points. The person with the most points 11/21/04 midnight TT time will be considered the winner. The rules we set up were that the pictures would be put up tonight. A few others still have pics to enter they can put them here for consideration. They will miss out on a full week of voting. No contestants are allowed to vote, tts vote only once and please no trolls.

here are the pics as I have them.

Thanks, I should have played with the contrast a bit to make the underside of the overhang a bit lighter.

No problem. Just dump your 24 favorites in a folder. I don't think anyone would have a problem with a late arrival.

I didn't really caption mine. The captions go like this, and here we have a picture of Falls Creek Falls, next we have a picture of Falls Creek Falls, and to round things out, how about a picture of Falls Creek Falls.

Ok, I liked all the photographs and think that we should do this again. Hats off to Bama, this was a great trip.
Over all I thought Bama had the Best quality, although it is hard viewing on a pc. But I liked the way he balanced the light and didn't lose detail though out. Bama's Photo #4 I think is my choice for first.
The tree to the right of the fall is a little distracting, I think the over all Quality over comes this.
My second place choice was hard, But I liked Dayhiker's photo #1. I'm not big on close up's of waterfalls, but I like this one, and over all, I think this shot if enlarged would make you feel the power of the fall, it also holds it's detail.
For third I like the Opie's photo 15, I think this is the best photo as far as camera angle, and is well composed. The reason that I put it in third, was the exposure on the rocks at the left was to distracting. One of you has a good eye. I will defiantly shoot here on my return trip.
Bama's plate 24 Ewker's plate 18 and 15 all were very good.

Thanks for voting FlatlanderMatt

The Sipsey is a really hard area to shoot to balance the light. The best time to is usually on a overcast day. The contrast of the shadows and sunlight will drive a light meter crazy. If you want to get a great looking pic, you will have to find your shot and stay put until the light conditions change to your favor. I was interested in what our pics would turn out like with everone shooting at the same locations. The only differance was time of day, camera angles, format, cropping, and exposure. We are all looking forward to seeing your shots.

Dayhiker, Just taking him with you will have a bond for the rest of his life. He will understand that under any circumstances you will take care of him. He will know that you will provide for him. ALA knows now what I did for him as a little tot. Ya'll may not have known it but on that last hike he loaded his pack up to 40 pounds so I wouldn't have to carry it with my bad back. I was hesitant to let him do this but he insisted. He knows his limits and I know he was trying to repay me for some of the things I did for him at a early age. I was surprised a 110 pound 12 yo could carry a 40 pound pack. He said its only about a mile and a half. Keep taking him with you. You are building fond memories that nither of you will forget. Here are some of our eaarly hiking.
