After my computer became absolutely choked to death by Net Zero and all the spam/bugs that come with it I got Netscape's service. Runs great and I downloaded their browser also. I loved it because you can have multipul tabs open that show more than one web site without having to have multipul browsers open. Then I heard about FireFox 1.0 which is built on the NS browser but it can be manipulated, changed and added on to. Completely customizable. Great browser! And of course it's free too...

I downloaded it this past summer, after the 31st security patch release for IE. Firefox is so much better than IE, it's not even funny. I've only found a few sites that haven't been completely compatible with it so far, but then again, I've yet to download the 1.0 release. Opening tabs in the same session is the only way to surf.

I heard that was a great browser. They've already taken a big bite out of IE's market share.

and it's "free"...

I downloaded and installed it, but have not really begun to explore it to any degree. I did like the way it asked me if I wanted to import my bookmarks from IE when I installed it.

“I haven't used IE in years,,but what is the difference between Foxfire and Netsc.7.1 browser?”

The biggest difference I've seen is you can do whatever you want with it. You can add whatever you want like extensions, search buttons, skins. It is to IE what Linux is to Windows.

Wow! I went and got Firefox 2.0. What a HUGE improvement on an already great product. My favorite upgrade is the spell check which works on all web boards and anywhere you type. So now I have spell check on Trail Talk and maybe Pedzing will shut his piehole. LOL!

I like & use FIREFOX too
but "IF" you like Internet Explorer, the NEW version Internet Explorer 7 is available for download.

I keep 3 web browsers on my desktop (Firefox, Opera & IE7)

I finally got sick of IE and NS and downloaded Firefox 2.0.0.2. Holy smokes what a sweet transition. Love the tabs (now I can quickly close or hide all my open webpages all at once when the boss comes in :) )

The spell checker is a main function now and doesn't need to be downloaded. I did download the Cooliris function that lets you scroll over links and open that page as a preview. Sweet, you can post in the preview, print it, whatever, as long as you don't take the mouse off the preview.

And I have yet to open a page and have the content scattered all over the screen in a format not intended by the website developer like I do with netscape and IE.

AND ITS FREE and easy to download and run.

I'm a firefox fan too. The spell checker feature does leave some things to be desired though, but I figure that's a minor thing.

BTW, what does Mozilla sell that keeps them in business?

They receive a little sponsorship from corporations. Also, since Mozilla is open source, programmers donate their time to create the products.

... and please be kind with the ad blockers, websites cost money to run

I can dig that, Matt, but since I never click on an add I don't think I am going to have an affect one way or the other.

I wouldn't use one if the ads didn't degrade performance so horribly. At times the load is so slow for me it's like being back on dial up.

Having problems
Ever since Firefox updated to 2.0.0.12 it can no longer connect to the internet. IE works fine. I tried turning off the firewall, but that didn't help. Anyone else having problems and any ideas on a solution. I hate all the ads that show up in IE.

Heck, just go to Firefox 3.0 beta 2.

Spyware or Trojan that only affected Firefox? Corrupt installation?

I got this GREAT add on called Cooliris. It is the coolest. It brings up a new window of the link (if you want it to) when you point to the link. It's easy to browse the link and then when you're done it closes. No extra tabs and no hassle. I'M LOVIN' IT!!!

It would drive me nuts because I hover over links to read the address before I click on them. If I want a new window it is just a simple right click/open in new window.

I like cooliris better than right clicking. I just move my arrow over the little icon and boom a little window opens up, I read what I want then move my pointer out of the new window and it closes on its own. I think it's great for reading news sites.

But to each their own. Enjoy.

I like cooliris too, but I am always popping up that temporary window. Most times it just goes away once i move my mouse from over the new window, but sometimes it wants to be a pain and make me click the X
