I have just completed my masterpiece.

Capitalism is bad.

Socialism is good.

Thank you for your support.

A perfect definition. I applaud your succinct delineation

I'm just exploring the political landscape here. Tell me why it's okay for the right to label liberals socialists and it's considered good debate, but when the left calls conservatives fascists, everyone gets their feelings hurt?

Please describe or define 'Capitalism' and 'Socialism' in 50 words or less.

What aspects of Capitalism are bad or are there no redeeming features ?

What aspects of Socialism make it good, is every aspect of Socialism good are are there some shortcomings ?

What about restrictions on Socialism to limit cost ? how about social services restricted to citizens only - a National Socialism ? or are there possibilities of abuse there redefining of exactly who qualifies as a 'national' and who does not.

Starting to smell like a can of worms already.

Ultra, because liberals promote socialism.

Conservatives promote Capitalism, not fascism. Read the above definition.

How do liberals promote socialism? Who are these liberals who promote socialism, and how is it a more apt description than saying conservatives promote fascism?

its to the point where liberal is synonymous with socialist, but anyone fresh out of 12-grade govt or social studies class can tell you theyre two different things

how bbw thinks:

some gays are child molestors, therefore all gays are child molestors

some liberals are socialists, therefore all liberals are socialists

a person can be liberal (support gay rights, legalized marijuana, women in the military, etc) and still support capitalism (hence, not socialist) by spending a bajillion buck at their local walmart every weekend

for example, i support gay rights, but i would like to see an end of welfare. that doesnt fit into the liberal-bashers worldview

I honestly do not see how liberalism is equal to socialism. Especially in the United States.

I am a conservative on almost all social issues, but economic issues are more flexible for me. I think calling a liberal a socialist is a gross exaggeration.

By the way, I respect Buddha and Laqtis for being observant and open minded enough to change their minds about the war.

Socialism - The stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between capitalism and communism, in which collective ownership of the economy under the dictatorship of the proletariat has not yet been successfully achieved. (American Heritage Dictionary)

Liberalism - A political theory founded on the natural goodness of humans and the autonomy of the individual and favoring civil and political liberties, government by law with the consent of the governed, and protection from arbitrary authority. (Same 8^p )

Conservatism - A political philosophy or attitude emphasizing respect for traditional institutions, distrust of government activism, and opposition to sudden change in the established order. (Same again, 8^p )

Well, I can see the link here between socialism and liberalism. While not the exact same thing it would seem that liberalism would be a necessity for our government to evolve into socialism.

In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot. - Mark Twain

Socialism is simply taking the next step. It will obviously struggle until there is a global mindset that favors it but I think it is inevitable as more people begin to see some benefits. Of course, we're then stuck with the problem of getting rid of government officials who thrive on capitalism and will do anything to protect it.

P.S. Doesn't the definition of conservative remind you of an old man telling you how good it was in the old days? "Why, when I was your age . . ."

It is said Benito Mussolini defined fascism this way.

“Fascism should more properly be called corporatism, since it is the merger of state and corporate power."

I can't vouch for the quote but that is as good a definition of it as I've ever heard.

Cliff, Do you think you're the only person who thinks for himself? Having no conviction is a conviction in itself, a dangerous one literally without basis.

California is NOT part of the United States. Someone should start a petition to that effect, you'd probably end up with a lot of CA signatures too. Comment from Darrone from the above. Nomatter what it is, you'll will find it was already ruled out long ago in CalEfornia.
