If you'd sat your a$$ down and not gone on the court then you wouldn't have gotten smacked. Your own actions led to your being hit. No lawsuit due, but I'm sure there will be plenty. I really hope they don't win a penny though. Maybe everyone should sue the white hat guy.” 7:03:16 AM 11/22/04 “Saturday morning when the sports headlines were covering this disgraceful event, the local paper also happened to be running a series of articles on the demise of basketball. Ironic. The basic theme was that basketball is now about the individual, that basic skills are lacking and that the game overall is suffering. Foreign teams play a more team oriented game and are whipping our a$$. John Wooden says that we should once again outlaw the dunk and 3-point shot. He may be right. I used to love to watch bball but for quite some time I've been repelled by the game. I will not help support these morons.” 7:19:45 AM 11/22/04 “I haven't watched the much at all for quite some time. I do enjoy college b'ball though. Bama's coach used to be an Assistant at UCLA and talks weekly with Wooden. What a great influence on one's life that must be.” 8:17:10 AM 11/22/04 “David Stern took the opportunity to make a statement to athletes in professional sports in general here, I believe. And kudos to him for doing so. CB, I agree with you on what you said, and the fact that the fans should be accountable also. I f someone bumps into you when you walk down the street, do you take the food you may be carrying and hurl it at them? Of course not. So, where do they get the idea that you can take this despicable behavior into an arena? Punish them if they can be identified. I agree. One thing you are overlooking, though. I think that the people that could have stopped this dead in its tracks, instead of escalating it, are the players. Like it or not, they really are the spoiled millionaires that bbw spoke of. And, like it or not, part of their job is to not let this sh_t get to them like that. Stern's fines said something to them. It said, you are supposed to be professionals. And, part of the reason you make so much damn money for putting a ball through a hoop is that you are there to uphold certain protocol. And, that is to rise above the flames and not sink to the level of the idiot that toosed a beer at you. Dry off, asswipe. You weren't exactly hospitalized for a near drowning. Get you ass out of the schoolyard and be the professional you were hired to be or sit your ass out for 72 games. And lose about 5 million bucks too. The jack off deserved it and I hope no one buys the POS's rap album either...” 8:25:59 AM 11/22/04 “They should be able to identify most of the fans, imo. Those weren't exactly the cheap seats. Those guys were season tickets holders of very expensive seats.” 8:30:21 AM 11/22/04 “Hey, screw 'em. Wanna behave like an animal, then take the punishment that comes with it.” 8:31:41 AM 11/22/04 “I pity the people who brought their kids to that game.” 8:51:29 AM 11/22/04 “Another good reason to take the NBA to the recycle bin. It's a joke anymore. I'd rather watch college ball any day. At least there's a little passion for the game left there. The NBA has become a squallor of greedy, lazy ego-heads that need a reality check. IMHO” 8:58:32 AM 11/22/04 “IJ, I couldn't agree more. I used to be such an avid NBA fan growing up. But, in recent years, I feel it's gone the way of amateur mentality. To be honest, I have pretty much abandoned it. The only games I watch are when someone will give me some Knicks tickets, which happens occasionally. I don't even watch anything on TV and don't even follow my home team anymore , for the most part.” 9:04:31 AM 11/22/04 “I'm with ChuckD on ending beer sales at sporting events. Arenas that I go to without alchohol are so much more fun and family friendly. I won't ever go back to a Jets game after MNF a few weeks back and would definately never take my kids. I know it makes a lot of money, but a few drunken jerks can ruin it for everyone.” 9:10:22 AM 11/22/04 “I gotta agree with that, having been at the same game, V. After getting hit with beer and popcorn AGAIN, we decided to bag it in the fourth quarter.” 9:16:14 AM 11/22/04 “Allen Iverson is about the only NBA player I've seen in recent years who seems to have a passion for the game. But I do not watch Sixers games very much. And never the entire game, but a few minutes here and there. College ball is infinitely more interesting, but those kids already have swelled heads, so that interest could wane too.” 9:28:28 AM 11/22/04 “One analyst I heard on Friday night commented that this incident takes precedence away from the Philly fans. I have always contended that things like this are not generic to any city and can (and do) happen anywhere. Finger pointing is pointless (pun not intended, but certainly fits). There was the big fight in college football on Saturday, and there's a story going around about a deer hunter who killed five people and wounded another three over a deer stand dispute. For a peace-loving people, we do seem to fly off the handle at the slightest provocation.” 10:58:18 AM 11/22/04 “About the footballfight, Geo. I saw a clip of that last night and it was run in conjunction with the NBA story. The commentators came on after they showed a few interview clips with the players involved in the college fiasco and commented on the following exceprts: One player said, "hey, we won the game and we won the fight." Brilliant! No remorse whatsoever, I guess. Then, the other genius pipes up and says, "Blame the Indiana Pacers for this." Another sh_t for brains, useless asswipe... last edited: 11/22/04 11:05:56 AM” 11:04:59 AM 11/22/04 “Yeah, it's epidemic (stupidity among our college-educated players). I think season-long suspensions would solve the problem in all sports, including hockey. John Feinstein said on NPR this morning that the presidents of both schools should turn down any bowl invitations in response to that fight. I agree whole-heartedly.” 11:09:38 AM 11/22/04 “The other part is what the commentators said. They called on the NCAA to do what David Stern did and come down hard on them. But, this is a different organization and with scholarships and careers potentials in the running with these guys, there seemed to be a consensus that they be a little more influenced by that in their punishments...” 11:11:39 AM 11/22/04 “Here's a copy of the email I just sent to the FCC: Dear Chairman Powell: I wish to file a complaint against the NBA and my local TV affiliate that broadcast last the Friday November 19, 2004 Pacers vs. Pistons basketball game on live TV. I wish to stress to you in the most severe terms, my incredible outrage at this kind of broadcast that incites the more unstable in society to use violence as an option in settling disputes. This incident is FAR more dangerous to society than a bare breast at the super bowel and deserves even more attention than that given Janet Jackson. Lives ARE lost due to violence, and the NBA and my local affiliate should not be broadcasting LIVE violence on television, especially when it is fully aware of the propensity for fights to break out during its games. Why no ten second delay? Why no standard orders to the cameramen to NOT film fights when they happen? No, the NBA and my local affiliate wantonly broadcast real violence real-time on my TV in order to titillate its viewers. That is obscene and unChristian. I hereby request your office to conduct an investigation and to levy appropriate fines against the NBA and the Television stations that broadcast this incitement to violence. Please advise me of your intentions regarding this complaint. Sincerely,” 11:13:46 AM 11/22/04 “Awesome, V. Great job. One question: did you deliberately mispell bowl and make it bowel?” 11:20:24 AM 11/22/04 “heh heh...” 11:24:05 AM 11/22/04 “The only good that can come from this is the hope that it spreads to women's tennis!” 11:29:35 AM 11/22/04 “...just the players fighting, of course.” 11:30:14 AM 11/22/04 “I for one loved it! Basketball fights are the best! Being a pro player does not mean one has to give up their rights and stand any treatment anyone chooses to level at them. They are people too, albeit rich and spoiled but people none the less. Throw a beer at Joe Blow down at the bar and see what happens.” 11:31:11 AM 11/22/04 “Not to mention they're lousy fighters--did you see the haymakers those guys were throwing?” 11:46:42 AM 11/22/04 “Nigal, that's total BS! Maybe you love the fighting. That's your perogative. But, don't tell me that they have a right to turn the place into a schoolyard. Have a few kids and bring them to one of those games and when you inadvertantly get hit, let me see you sing the same tune. F-ck those unprofessional animals. They deserve sh_t!” 11:51:39 AM 11/22/04 “like the old saying goes, theres no such thing as bad publicity. the fight will serve to increase ratings, which benefits david stern in the long run. for him to act high and mighty is a bit hypocritical. vi makes a good point about breast-gate and artest-gate. broadcast violence is alot more damaging to our society than nipples and tits, unless its fighting over nipples and tits.” 12:41:57 PM 11/22/04 “oh, and next time pacers play detroit: christmas day peace on earth, good will to men oink” 12:44:01 PM 11/22/04 “So, you think that Stern did this to boost ratings?” 12:44:12 PM 11/22/04 “I mean, he could have accomplished the same thing by giving the usual slap on the wrist.” 12:44:45 PM 11/22/04 “no, of course not. its just that hes punishing guys that are helping to put more money in his coffers. i dont think hes quite as offended by their behaviour as he pretends to be. its just the pr thing to do.” 12:52:54 PM 11/22/04 WHOOPS!! “"...super bowel..." VioliN 11:13:46 AM 11/22/04” 12:57:32 PM 11/22/04 “The big fight was the most NBA basket ball I have watched in a number of years.” 12:59:24 PM 11/22/04 “given a choice between tna and violence in sports, ill take tna, please” 12:59:37 PM 11/22/04 “given a choice between tna and violence in sports, ill take tna, please” Crash Bang 12:59:37 PM 11/22/04 What about a choice between peni$ and violence? last edited: 11/22/04 1:01:29 PM” 1:01:01 PM 11/22/04 “The big fight was the most NBA basket ball I have watched in a number of years.” it was better than most boxing matches” 1:01:06 PM 11/22/04 “well does that #&%!$ stand for what i think it stands for?” 1:02:10 PM 11/22/04 PENI$ “I changed it to something more readable.” 1:03:16 PM 11/22/04 “i guess it didnt. i have no interest in peni$es, other than my own” 1:03:26 PM 11/22/04 “Yes and answer the question!” 1:03:56 PM 11/22/04 “theres another one for classic tt quotes” 1:04:31 PM 11/22/04 “So what makes you think that the women who watch sports want to see tna???” 1:05:01 PM 11/22/04 “why are you so interested? huh? huh? are you recruiting for a north florida orgy? im not that cheap, missy. : P” 1:06:13 PM 11/22/04 “So what makes you think that the women who watch sports want to see tna???” i dont. i said I do” 1:07:11 PM 11/22/04 “I wish I could take credit for writing it: http://americablog.blogspot.com/archives/2004_11_01_americablog_archive.html” 1:07:14 PM 11/22/04 “You are being obtuse!” 1:07:47 PM 11/22/04 “v, you dont write 99 percent of what you post : P” 1:08:12 PM 11/22/04 “and youre being supercalifragilisticexpealidocious” 1:09:00 PM 11/22/04 “So to equal it out I should be able to see peni$es! And you should be subjected to it also!” 1:10:32 PM 11/22/04 “if you want to see peni$es, i wholeheartedly encourage you to see as many as you can” 1:19:09 PM 11/22/04 “"Best" fight I ever got into was during a game. I was being outclassed by an opponent on a regular basis during the first half. Our teams were archrivals and we were very physical. My teammates were all over me, screaming at me that I had better stop him. Man I was getting frustrated. Then, on the last play of the game, he blew right by me. I somehow tackled him from behind and drove his face into the dirt. That cleared both benches and the game was suspended. Furthermore, all games between our two schools were canceled for the rest of the season. I used to love soccer. We were always very physical and we enjoyed indoor the most, especially in Buffalo where we played at the MSL arena & we could "use" the boards to neutralize an opponent. ;)” 1:20:41 PM 11/22/04 “but in the interest of being un-obtuse, i didnt say there should be tna, just that id prefer tna over violence if given a choice.” 1:21:45 PM 11/22/04
