As some of you already know, my right knee/leg has been giving me problems. I FINALLY have an ortho appointment on Monday...

Perfect timing: my knee keeps giving out now. It started on last weekends hike up at Harriman. Every now and then it would give out and I'd almost collapse, mainly on inclines, but sometimes just on flat ground as well.

As of yesterday it's started to be a constant pain. I can't move it someways, I can't bend it fully because it hurts so bad and even just sitting here, it's painful.

I think I may have a torn medial meniscus. I'll most likely have to get an MRI done on Monday.

Figures that batman luke is coming home on Tuesday and we had a 4 day hike planned starting this Friday and now I can't go : (
Guess we'll just have to car camp... better than not getting out at all.

Hope it's just tendonitus or something that some meds will help, Scorchy. Feel better and take some anti-inflamatories. Ice it too, it helps alot.

Try drinking less. It always makes me fall down too. LOL!

Knees and backs are some of the worst injuries because they always seem to come back. Hope it's nothing major and ya get better.

SF...

I had the same prob. It got so bad that It would go out and I would fall...ended up breaking an ankle that way. All along my oc was saying it was nothig to worry about...after the break I went to another doc cause I KNEW there was something wrong. That other doc was surprised I hadnt had surgery for it long before then cause it was so bad. It only gets worse if ya dont get it taken care of it. The recovery is a #&%!$ but you'll have a knee :)

I have had knee problems for years, I truly sympathize. One doctor told me I would be on crutches by the time I was 40....that hasn't happened yet, my knees are actually better then they were 15 years ago...

Unfortunately, the rest of me is shot.

They can do amazing things today, you will be back up and packing soon. You have lots of support, sometimes thats half the battle.

Best of luck to ya.

I hope it's nothing too serious. If I have to have surgery, then I'd much rather have it now than down the line when it's worse, like SC said.

Get it over with. It's not a bad operation. I had a "bucket handle" tear and they just clip it on both ends and take it out. Up and runnin around in a couple of weeks.

Cheer up Scorchie...I was supposed to have knee surgery in July....got postponed twice...now I'm still waiting for an appointment. Got a small tear in the inner minegus of the right knee. Haven't done any exhaustive sports over a whole year. :o( Just sitting around getting fat.

LOL, i'm sure you're not fat, stan.

meanwhile i can barely walk and i'm sure i'll be put on crutches or something until i can get surgery.

i won't be able to go back to work with crutches... it's a fast paced job and i can't be limited. if i have to sit home on short term disability after surgery i'll be so bored!

so the doc thinks it's either a meniscul tear or something with the cartiledge. he says it may just go away on it's own... which would be ideal. if not, i'll have to try cortisone shots (OUCH!) and if that still doesn't work, surgery. he doesn't think it'll get to that point, thank god. i still have to get an MRI done to make sure that's what it is. it feels a little better today but i still am limping and still hurts to fully extend the leg.

either way, i have to stay off the knee, which means no hiking he said : ( until they find out what's wrong.

oh shoot, those cortisone shots suppose to hurt, that's what I heard.

the doc thought i had torn my "minisucus" when i had my little car crash almost two years ago...it stayed sore for what seemed like forever...couldnt bend it or squat on it or it would feel like it was going to rip...got an MRI done andit was nothing..just enough fluid that it madeit hurt yet the doc said it wasnt enough to have to drain...just went away on its own...VERY SLOWLY
shep0987
5:37:58 PM
11/22/04

yea,.. that's what he was saying, that it may go away on it's own. if it's a bad tear i wouldn't be able to move it and that's when it would require surgery. whew. so i'm thinking that's good news.
