(AP) Voters in the heart of the Swiss Alps on Sunday passed legislation banning naked hiking after dozens of mostly German nudists started rambling through their picturesque region.

By a show of hands citizens of the tiny canton (state) of Appenzell Inner Rhodes voted overwhelmingly at their traditional open-air annual assembly to impose a 200 Swiss franc ($176) fine on violators.

Only a scattering of people on Sunday opposed the ban on the back-to-nature activity that took off last autumn when naked hikers - primarily Germans - started showing up in eastern Switzerland.

The cantonal government recommended the ban after citizens objected to encountering walkers wearing nothing but hiking boots and socks.

"The reactions of the population have shown that such appearances over a large area are perceived as thoroughly disturbing and irritating," the government said in a statement.

A similar legal move is expected in neighboring Appenzell Outer Rhodes with legislation being prepared against "this shameless behavior."

German Web sites promoting the activity describe it as "a special experience of nature, free and healthy" and said nude walking in the Alps has roots in antiquity.

The verdant Appenzell region has been regarded as a favorite, with trails the nudists regarded as off the beaten path.

The German sites also promote walks in France and in regions of Germany, where public nudity has roots going back to the 18th century through a movement that has come to be called "Free Body Culture." Nudism in more conservative areas of Switzerland is less common.

It's how they avoid law suits and losing their jobs. Do they always follow it? No, but to think tazering will be rampant due to laziness is a bit silly.”

I'll agree with that but add that even the normal ones turn into dicks when you get 3 or more of the normal ones together.

Individual cops, even the dicks, are not that bad to work with, but when you put them in a group, they feed on each others #&%!$ness. So even a little bit of #&%!$ness will eventually rise to a #&%!$ tsunami given enough time.

But the fact still remains, #&%!$ or not, they are the interpreters of the law and not you when in an encounter with them. You don't get to tell them, "hey, its ok, these people don't mind if I am naked" lol (isn't that what the idiot was saying in the beginning)”

A former high school football star was in custody Wednesday night in Will County Jail in Joliet, charged with running roughshod over 22 curbside mailboxes outside homes on Naperville's far southwest side.

Bond had still not been set Wednesday for Britt R. Andros, a onetime linebacker for the Neuqua Valley High School football team. Naperville police allege Andros was drunk when he used his hands and feet to destroy or damage the mailboxes early Wednesday morning in the Ashbury neighborhood.

Andros, 19, lives at 4440 Esquire Circle in the River Run area of Naperville. He was subdued with a Taser about 4:25 a.m. after being tackled by two police officers and then attempting to break free by wrestling with them.

Two police sergeants and four officers raced to Ashbury about 4:12 a.m. That was when police received the first of several 911 calls concerning a man vandalizing residential mailboxes, police Sgt. Russell K. Wolf said early Wednesday morning.

Witnesses reported seeing Andros running through the backyards of some of the houses where the damage occurred. Police were directed to the area of Orwell Road and Falkner Drive, where Andros was seen attempting to hide in bushes outside a home there.

Andros was treated at the scene in an ambulance after being Tasered. Wolf said his injury was not serious.

With the assistance of another officer, Howard was handcuffed and taken into custody.

He was charged with indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest without violence and trespassing.
