Thank you so much. Lee has had a rough year. Maybe things will settle down for awhile. Her funeral is Tuesday. Xoxo

I've been going to the hospital with my mother a bunch lately. Her breast cancer has gotten into her bone near the base of her spine. They found it while they were working her up for surgery on her spinal stenosis. Its hormonse and some chemo right now - she may have radiation later. Right now, she has decided to go ahead with the surgery. There's still a good chance this will be manageable for how every many years she has (she's 80 now) - but its definitely a drag for her. She's an active involved person who is used to taking care of other people.

If I'm tested in may and it is negative, it will be 10 years cancer free for me.

good luck ped!

This thread is probably the best on this board.

Anyone know how to find the link to BM's TRs?

Thanks Slim and ENS. This is sort of the best and worst thread on the site - this and "I hate cancer" have provided some comfort and support for people in hard times. I have a brother and a sister, but am the only one in the area - so I'm the one most involved with my mother. We've taken turns helping each other out through medical problems, visiting each other in the hospital and so on.

I hope HOIs idea does it. Anything in particular you are looking for ENS?

That is true. Best in terms of love and support, worst in terms of loss and saddness.

I can't find the thread. I just want to read it.

Edit function doesn't work when there are apostrophes in the text. Evidently the fix is on their to do list.

You need to either eliminate or double up the apostrophes. I doubled up to edit this one (it still shows as a single apostrophe).

thanks.

I've been trying the archives and can't find it there either.

It seems when you search trip reports, it only goes back to 2008. I wonder if the thread was purged.

Good luck Ped. Thoughts and prayers with y'all. My son will keeping our fingers crossed make three years cancer free in June. We are almost 3 years post diagnosis now. He has applied for nursing school in the fall and wants to be an RN. We are headed to Hiawaii for Easter it's his dream trip. Gonna check out what a 13,000 foot volcano is like.

I lost my Mom to cancer a little over a month ago.It is the so far, unspoken reason I ended up on this site. It is why I am hunting a place in the woods away from people.I want time with my family. My mother had a very rare, only a few case studies type of cancer. She lived, and I do mean lived, with it for 7 years.I miss her very much. I could go on with treatments and such, but I think my Mama would say,buy the outfit you couldn't wear when you were size 14. Wear the wig that looks just like the hair you always wanted. Eat at an expensive restauraunt and hope you can cover the light bill.Tell your kids they are great and you are proud of them.Take the grandkids to the beach even if you are not strong enough to fight the waves.Laugh, because you were not strong enough to fight the waves.Flirt and make jokes at the wrong time in the wrong place.Live did not end for her with the discovery of cancer. She found a way to explore unexplored trails.

Big hugs Splashangel...I know it is hard to loose someone to cancer but it sounds like your mom learned to live in her dying and that she left you with some amazing insights.

Hiking and finding solitude is a wonderful way to heal.

Sorry for that tough loss Splash. Sounds like she left you with some wisdom, as well as good memories. My mother now has metatasis (from breast cancer) in her bone, so a tough fight is ahead. I feel blessed to live nearby, so I can at least provide some help and comfort.

Over the years, this discussion board has lost some great folks to cancer. Others are fighting it now. Others (like myself) have had it, got treatment, and have had no sign of it for many years. If you go through this thread and the others that deal with cancer, you'll see the kind of support that we've had for each other in tough times.

I got my semi-annual blood test results (parathyroid hormone and calcium to monitor for return of parathyroid cancer). Results came back smack in the middle of the normal range. I am now celebrating 10 years with no sign of cancer. Life is good!

Thanks.

I'm supposed to get tested every six months for the rest of my life. A couple times it has been three months when the labs looked a little off. It seems like well over half of the metastases for parathyroid carcinoma show up in the first 10 years - so my odds of not seeing it again have improved (originally it seemed to be about 50/50).

Hello all. Been away a long time but I see a few familiar names. Bacpac would be laughing; now that I don't work I have very little time for the internet.
I'm still fighting the cancer, still being treated, been in near complete remission 3 1/2 years now.
I'm staying active to help me tolerate the drugs and hopefully keep the cancer away. This coming Sunday I'm competing in Ironman Kentucky, I've had a good 9 months of injury-free training and I'm ready to rock.
On race day at ironman.com they have an athlete tracker, I'm bib #2706.

Good news Ped, so glad to hear!

Hope all are well!

Good luck with Iron Man. It was good to hear from you, I hope you let us know how it goes.

The cancer threads here are amazing. The courage and heroism of some of the people here - especially those we lost - is moving beyond any words I could come up with. Bear, Rich, and Matahari's voices still resonate here.

My mother's metastases are growing in the bone. Still nothing appearing in the soft tissue which is the good news. She had been counting on recovering further from her back surgery - but is struggling with the possibility that she is now at her new normal - which is much more frail and dependent than she is used.

For me, the biggest blessing is that I live nearby - so I am less helpless when she faces problems. When her electricity was out from the hurricane last night, I could drive over and bring her to my house. It would have been awful to be 100s of miles away and unable to do anything. It's also great that my wife loves her and looks out for her at least as well as I do (better some times).
