Rocky trip in the planning stagesView MessagesTo add this thread as a favorites, you need to first login. read the trip description... “Its never too early to start planning a trip to the Rockies. Details at this time are sketchy, but if all goes according to plan, This trip will fly.” 9:33:29 AM 11/24/04 “I'll keep an eye on this, you'll be right in my new backyard. Since its midweek, my availability may be limited, new job, not a lot of vacay time and all. But maybe I could meet you on the weekend or something.” 12:55:58 PM 11/24/04 “There will be snow high up at the early date of this trip. stikmon - On trail or offtrail travel? I seem to remember you posting an offtrail adventure you had I wouldn't want to repeat. ;-) I'm interested.” 1:05:22 PM 11/24/04 “you driving out there, sticky? how long a drive is it for you?” 1:10:25 PM 11/24/04 “yam didn't read the trip info, did she? ;-)” 1:12:04 PM 11/24/04 “ah crap, i missed the most important line about his company!! i'm a bad reader. : )” 1:13:19 PM 11/24/04 Right... “SS...it would be ontrail. I remember that offtrail trip...it was a doozey! to say the least. Fun stuff! I know about the high elevetions. I was there in May 3 years ago (or was it 4) and there was 4' of hardpack once we got up near tree line. We couldn't go anyfurther as we didnt' have crampons and we were hiking in shorts and t's, but, there is plenty of low elevation stuff that could be done, with the mtns in the back and foreground. Glad your interested...I know YOU could be relied upon to save my sorry arse if it came down to it. There seems to be such crap flying on TT these days, it makes me wonder if traveling with anyone other than myself is smart. Your not one of the "uglies". Thanks!!! Roam...I know your up there now...hope you can make it...(I think)...Have you ever been pissed at me? LOL... I've done a few different trails over the years, so I have a good understanding of the front range. If Indian Peaks is not doable...then maybe the mummy range...I've got a date to hump Mummy and piss off her back.” 1:14:41 PM 11/24/04 yam... “If your coming,,,then the rest of you are UNINVITED and this now becomes a PRIVATE trip. joking...Im not that sexually depraved...deprived YES...depraved NO.” 1:33:39 PM 11/24/04 “I can be 'depraved' if the lady wants that. ;-)” 1:35:15 PM 11/24/04 “Its way too early for me to know, but I'd be up for it if I can make it.” 2:02:57 PM 11/24/04 get on the trip... “and get on the email dist list...lots of secret email will come out later in the year.” 4:44:59 PM 11/24/04 “Roam...I know your up there now...hope you can make it...(I think)...Have you ever been pissed at me? LOL... stikmon 12:14:41 PM I don't think i've ever been pissed off at anybody on this board...... yet. LOL Even with snow on the higher spots, your right there is PLENTY of places to hang out for a few days. I was thinking the other night that I'd like to check out the Dunes in late spring/early summer.” 5:58:28 PM 11/24/04 the dunes ROCK... “I hiked up Star Dune and went down the other side and found a real secluded dune...no one was on my side of Star. I got nekkid and laid out on a blanket for a few hours and got nice and tan and then hiked out (with clothes on) and went back to my camp site and had THE best time there. You can camp anywhere on the dunes as long as it is not within site of the park office. Fun stuff...some Mt Dew dudes were sand surfin and everyone was playin in the Little Medano Crk.” 12:54:58 AM 11/25/04 “Indian Peaks, yeah! I LOVE Indian Peaks!!! Been in three areas in Indian Peaks: 1. A day hike to Lost Lake, going in from Nederland and up past that little ski resort. 2. A day hike in the Brainard Lake rec area to .. hmmm... Long Lake??? The trail continues up to the Divide. 3. On the western side, an old RR bed/now forest road accesses the western side of Indian Peaks at Rollins Pass. You can access Indian Peaks from over 11,000 feet there. And look east and immediately across the valley see the Winter Park ski area hills. Gorgeous area. I better get on the sekert e-mail list!” 10:09:21 AM 11/25/04 yeah... “you better be on the list...I'll need a guide to keep me safe. Every trip to Rocky is one of them "survival adventures" for me. For once, I'd like a "walk in the park" trip. With Shiela's around, I'll be forced to remain consevative. plus...you'd be able to utilize your newly honed backpacking skills vs. car camping/day hiking...just remember...this is gonna be a 5.5 day trek...no resupply.” 9:58:11 AM 11/29/04 “As the dates firm up, I'll plan on taking a couple of days off and hooking in with ya. Maybe I can put the kid on a plane to go hang at her Mom's for a few days. National Geo map #102 covers Indian Peaks area, btw.” 7:00:52 PM 1/07/05 I don't have that map. “I have a fantastic colorado springs and the RMNP maps. Please don't carve out any time yet. I'd feel guilty if this doesn't happen and others have set it in stone, but then again, others can and once in a while do hike without me, it just isn't as rewarding, thats all.” 9:38:33 PM 1/07/05 “Nah, I'll wait till you put up some dates till I ask for the time off for the trip. I bet Matt's store will sell you that map.” 9:49:42 PM 1/07/05 “I may be able to make a few days of this up around RMNP, provided Roam Around refrains from the NakedMonkeySex antics this time. But I'd like to camp in the snow. last edited: 1/18/05 10:34:45 PM” 10:31:19 PM 1/18/05 “heyyyyyy, that was those other freaks, i started a simple innocent thread!” 10:44:26 PM 1/18/05 rumors back on!!! “but thats all it is.” 9:50:21 PM 1/21/05 “so get someone to commit dammit!! LOL” 12:48:26 AM 1/22/05 gonna try next week... “the only thing is that this will be Sr mgt meetings...marketing managers were invited last year, I'm hoping that it will be the same this year too. I'm hopeful, but I'm not gonna go gaga until I know for sure. If it does come to pass, would you be able to take the time to do a 5 day trip? I'd really like to go and get lost for a longer spell..I've done 3 dayers and they are great, but I really want to do an extended gig so that I can have more potential to die a horrible death. The 3 dayers I always manage to survive...LOL.” 5:54:39 PM 1/22/05 “probably not be able to take much time off, but depending on the route I could meet you along the way or just let you wander off by yourself when i have to cut out back to real life.” 8:40:35 PM 1/22/05 “Or... do body recovery... LOL!!” 9:00:05 PM 1/22/05 lizs... “id this comes to play out, you could carry me dead bones back to me mother, right?” 10:31:08 PM 1/22/05 “LOL.... someone has to. ;-)” 11:14:40 PM 1/23/05 “According to rumour.....this trip is back on! If the rumour is collaborated then the trip will be modified slightly: Wednesday night (4/27) --> meet the gang Drive to TH or somewhere nearby ---> TBD Hike Thursday through Saturday Out on Sunday...... That's all I have....just waiting for confirmation from a certain personage to verify” 4:54:46 PM 2/10/05 “Cool!” 5:38:42 PM 2/10/05 personage verification... “Unless I am unduly released from my employer prior to this event, then I can comfortably presume that I will be going to Denver for business from May 1 thru the 5th. So the dates that SL outlines are correct for a pre-meeting jaunt up to the highlands of the Rockies...Arrival would be on Wed April the 27th in the evening. @ 8 or so. With an airport return on Sunday @2pm. Roam Around...could you join us for that time frame for an extended journey...it is shorter than what I wanted to do originally, but we don't always get what we want and have to do what we are permitted to do.” 11:52:32 PM 2/10/05 I was down as a kinda maybe “stikky - I finially got a schedule of of my employer and I'm not gonna be able to make it with you guys. Working for a living sucks.” 8:46:27 AM 2/14/05 thats why I'm trying... “to stop working for a living...its getting in the way living life. Sorry to miss you on this trip. I get a kick outta looking at all your cool hand made gear...your a real inspiration...and a well mannered tightwad...LOL...see, I can be nice, just not 100%...LOL... a nother time dude...Theres some tennessee areas I'd like to explore soon as the weather becomes a bit less crummy. Roam...sorry to have not called over the weekend...get to your phone I'm a callin ya now.” 7:29:30 PM 2/14/05 sorry roam... “can't call...seems that phUKKIN SBC has terminated my long distance service. freakin puke holes don't seem to like getting their payment on an automatic timly basis. Cause if this is customer service then they can go finger themselves till they bleed. oh...sorry...should rant on a different thread...anyway, I'll call you when I can.” 7:51:51 PM 2/14/05 “thats cool stik, when you get a chance - there's plenty of time to work out the details.” 10:11:36 PM 2/14/05 sbc says.... “we're sorry, will a 40.00 credit make you happy, I said sure. I'll call you when I actually remember to do it...LOL. I'm waiting to make certain that this is a GO! before I actually start spending energy in planning. and yes,,,a pick up and drop off at the Denver Tech Center Sheraton would be awsome...save $$$. I'll be glad to stoke the gas tank though. If Stratusloop comes along, he can ride up on the roof and hold the bags in place...LOL.” 12:36:58 AM 2/16/05 etched in STONE!!! “Trip is a go!!! today it became official, I'ma gonna go to Denver!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Arrival on Wed April 27th @8pm, trek someplace, hopefully up in the Indian Peaks Wilderness area, more than likely, with either crampons up top or snowshoes...It don't make much a difference...as long as I get up into them thar hills. More details to emerge as we get closer. Roam is the local guy so, he will be fully up to speed on conditions. Good to talk with you Roam, this should be an awsome trip!” 10:42:32 PM 2/18/05 “You bet bro! Gonna be a great trip!” 11:20:26 PM 2/18/05 “Pawnee Pass Link That same site has brief descripts for several other destinations too. I may try to get over there next weekend and Scout around a bit. The road to Brainard Lake is supposed to be kept closed until June - so add 1.7 miles to every trail starting at Brainard Lake.” 11:20:32 AM 2/20/05 “Another Pawnee Page This one has better pics and links to lots of info. just to whet yall's appetite!” 12:30:00 PM 2/20/05 “visit the page i just put up linked to Summitpost.org and check out the link there to Mt. Toll.....” 12:34:17 PM 2/20/05 reading the disclaimer... “road closed till june...makes me think another location could be advisable for this trek...it'll be bad enough gettin off a plane and going straight to the mtns, without battling snow too..., but I'm not counting ANYTHING out until closer and you get to do some scouting. I think I'd be up to a 15 mile trek in 3 days...that would allow lots of dink around time for photography and exploring side highlights. Mileage is not really a goal...I could care less about logging mileage. My whole thing is enjoyment and lusciousness without being beaten up or eatin up. I was looking over the map and found a nice looking loop hike near beaver meadows...its probably pretty tame compared to what you and I have done before, but tame is not such a bad thing as long as the topography is stupendous and the photo ops are awsome. check out Fern Lake trail and the trail around Mt Wul. That could be a good back up plan if the Peaks are snowed in. It might be a bit more touristy as it is so close to the Meadows visitor center and 4 trail heads. Conditions will dictate where and what we will be able to do.” 7:01:38 PM 2/20/05 “Hey that is where I went last August. Which side of the pass are you coming up on. Here is some pics if your interested. http://community.webshots.com/album/175569705gdZHyr” 7:20:52 PM 2/20/05 great photos... “Don't even know if that is what we are doing...we're looking for a 3 day backpacking trek. It will be late April and I'm thinking that the high places will be inaccessble. That looks like an awsome trek. I'd really like to do it, but weather and conditions will dictate the route we decide to undertake.” 7:41:13 PM 2/20/05 Ummm I think there will be snow. “Sounds like a cool trip. Plan for snow. Id think like going more toward memorial day weekend or later.” 9:01:08 PM 2/20/05 busting brush... “you must not have read everything...this is not an optional trip to Denver...busn meetings say GO, and GO I shall. Thanks for your advice though, but nonetheless, I'll go and have a good time.” 12:32:40 AM 2/21/05 My whole thing is..... “....that I enter the wilderness with eyes wide open anticipating the moment God touches my soul, knowing that I can't deny the exposure of the pure truth piercing through my body. One of the greatest gifts that the wilderness has to offer is the absence of man. When I leave this holy land, the adventure we experience together as a fellowship will be remembered for many years establishing a bond that can never be broken. In a nushell....that's my whole thing.....” 8:25:57 AM 2/21/05 well...we are getting closer... “and there is a trip to plan...Actually, the trek is already pretty much planned, and if your interested...then get on the band wagon and say something. Otherwise this will be a 2 person trek into the Mtns. More than likely we will be snowshoeing for the 3 days that we are up there...low mileage, with maximum mtn eyecandy. Boo!” 6:04:08 PM 3/21/05 “I was just looking at the calendar today thinking about this!” 6:56:36 PM 3/21/05 Snow shoes... “If you feel that snow shoes are going to be required, please let me know how much the rental will be, and I will send you out some money to cover it. Also...would it be possible to ship some stuff to you? since I'll be in Colorado for over a week, and I will have gear, plus civilian clothes. I'm thinking of sending my packpack and gear out ahead of time, this way, I won't have to lug so much stuff on the plane and thru the airport.” 9:29:25 AM 3/22/05 “Yes, you can ship. Snowshoes cost about 10 bucks a day. I'll email you the address. I just wanted to say that I have CONFIRMED my time off from work for this little jaunt. WOOO HOOO!” 11:52:03 AM 4/06/05 << back to Rocky Mtn NP or somewhere similiar page
