“Well, the snow started just after noon Friday in this part of the Northwoods, earlier just a bit farther N/NW and in the U.P. Wet, heavy stuff that continued steadily until sometime last night. Somewhere around 6 inches total after compacting from its own weight -- if it had been really cold, this would have easily been over a foot of snow. But cold temps and drier air overnight sucked some of the moisture out of it, so I was glad I waited until this morning to fire up the snowblower. Now the sun is out, helping melt the remnants off pavement and cars, and I'm feeling just how out of shape I got over this semester. All the conditioning of my summer of gardening is gone, and winter arrived with a solid punch that I can feel.”

23 degrees here and just a skiff of snow. not much wind so it's not too bad. Feed the horses w/ no coat (course was only out there about 5 minutes or so) These aren't my horses; was just getting rid of some old bread and had to wait for them to come to the fence.”

With the cold temps overnight, it's gotten all icy and crusty. Not good for anything more than groundcover (which the gardens needed, so that's cool). More thaw/freeze/thaw/freeze for the next couple days, then possibility of more snow. Makes for careful walking on pavement as black ice forms as soon as the sun starts to dip.”
