need mentors
I have been day hiking for several years and now I have the time and funds to make the step up to backpacking multi days. I am looking for a few mentors to make a hike with me in Glacier NP in Montana. I wanna make this trip tentative to late spring and I am open to any suggestions. I would also be willing to hike with anyone also hiking in the Midwest(ie Black Hills, Wyoming, Colorado.) I am also open to any suggestions anyone may have.
thanks

OK, I'll chime in. But if you are a troll, I will surely be sorry later. If you are serious about this, then complete your profile so we don't think you are a troll. And if you have a picture of yourself, send it to Phil, if you are brave enough! BTW, Welcome to the insanity of TT!!

First suggestion - find simple, short trips close to where you live, start out slowly.

Where do you live?

Flekspacker,

there is a Glacier trip on the trips page. I noticed your timeline appears to be early spring, perhaps not a good time to hike Glacier. We will be going in mid-August if you are interested.

My post actually says late spring, would this still be a bad time? I am just very anxious.

there will be heavy snow in the passes and elsewhere above 9,000 feet or so until mid summer. Best time to go is in August to experience the best part of the park.

I'm in CO - right outside of RMNP. shoot me an email if your headed this way anytime.

hey thanks Roam, yeah CO is on my to do list. We have people in Colorado Springs we go visit and I could make the drive out there whenever you might have something going on. I would not mind daypacking Pikes Peak.

giving thanks
I want to thank people for welcoming me in tonight and hope everyone has a great thanksgiving. Looking very much forward to getting to know more people on here and hopefully finding a backpacking mentor.

I'm planning on putting together a Longs Peak summit in July or August. It'll be at least an overnighter - maybe two nights.

I'll post the trip when it firms up a little on plans.

I'm looking forward to that trip in August. It's going to be great. I'm sure you'll need to be prepared for lots of snow in the spring out there.

thanks for the buzz wing, and i will be joining the trip in august. I wont be going in the spring. In the late spring however i will be planning some Black Hills weekend jaunts. Hope some people can make it out for that.
