Alot of TTers have their website listed on Phil's photo page, along with their pictures. Maybe try there?

Here ya go, found it!

all lies
I just read some of the stuff on his website...

the text illustrates him as a normal and sound backpacker...

I've only met him twice, and corresponded a little... but I've got nothing but good to say about him. My friends who hiked with him felt the same. He's out there a lot, I figure it won't take long before I'll be looking to him for info about mountains and trails in the Northeast, and I was born out here.

I've hiked with Artex once, and partied with him when he left NYC. In both cases, he was a congenial, friendly guy. I was sorry to see him leave. I don't understand fully the situation that caused him to leave. I think sometimes we paint ourselves into corners and can't see a way out. My philosophy is to wait for the paint to dry and walk out with your head up.

I think he will come back once things cool off a bit. There's nothing wrong with a TT break every once in a while.

I once had a girlfriend bake a Banana Cream cake (my fav) for my birthday. She put forth great effort and presented me with a wonderful product. When she asked what I thought about the cake, I told her that the bananas were a little too firm. She never baked for me again.
I tell this story because I like what you are doing, but it can be tweaked slightly to make viewing more enjoyable.

I've looked through your web site in the past and again with both ie and netscape browsers. Content is great! Well done, except for one very anoying feature... The header that never goes away.

The top header is fixed, never moves. Lots of wasted space there. It leaves only 3/5 of the screen for your scrolling frames.

I do hope you continue baking!

Thanks for the baking tips, Mr. Goat. And thanks for the constructive criticsm. I never saw it in that light before, and I can see your point and will take it under consideration. Much appreciated. :-)

Geobeet - You guessed it!

BTW - there are a few "easter eggs". I plan on adding more in the future. One has to do with Lumberzac. Another with Stephen King's "Dark Tower". Nothing big, but fun to do.

That view is among the more spectacular in the Daks. I think Gothics is the very best, and the view from Algonquin and the view from Colden are just about tied for second.

I agree, Geo. Marcy is spectacular as well. But probably my most memorable mountain top view in the Dacks came on top of Mt. Dix. The summit was above the clouds, and the wind was pushing them towards the face of the mountain where they'd shoot up and over/through us. It was absolutely amazing. I'll have that trip report up at some point, it was 2.5 years ago.

I had that experience of being in the fog on Marcy once. The summit apparently was just into the lower part of the cloud cover, so clouds would lift momentarily, yielding a view, then descend again and making the world gray.

Cool Site......Very Cool
Hmmmmmm, I've seen cloud/fog pouring over Big Schloss(GW Natl Forest Va/WVa) like water over a dam.

Then the wind would change and the flow would slow and change direction slipping over the rocks faster and faster.

I ain't fallin' for it! Let me guess, Artex has a few "free" vid clips up and the ad says "Only $2.99 for the first month". Next thing ya know the wife is standing over ya fuming about a fishy $50 a month charge from some web site called LatexLove.com.

Nope, fool me once shame on you. Fool me tiwce, we can't get fooled again.

Pleasant Mountain
Your TR brought back fond memories. I lived in Denmark from 1968 until 1972 and learned to ski on Pleasant Mountain. I also spent many hours traversing the slopes just above West Denmark when deer hunting in the fall. I also had summer jobs at Camp Winona in Bridgton, just across Moose Pond from Pleasant Mountain.

Thanks for bringing back some wonderful memories for me!

You mentioned living about an hour away from there - where are you located?

I just revamped it. The Goat's comment began to make me feel the same way. Kind of like when someone tells you to not look at your right thumb, yet you do anyway.

I got rid of the frames. I think it looks slicker this way. Thanks Mr. Goat.

yeah, Thanks Artex!

It does functions better when allowing the entire frame to scroll. However, I have found another problem.

I notice these things because I have a massive web site also. My domain was mine before I knew anything about computers, and I learned how to build web pages while learning how to use a computer. I've never read a book about HTML, or computers for that matter.

When I pulled your domain up, 6 of your webpageindexrock.jpg images were seen lined up across the top, and one below that row and to the left. Total of 7. When I pulled the webpageindexrock.jpg file, I noticed that it is sized at 150 pixels square. I check your html code and noticed that you resized the image to 128x123. Also, the table that you have built the web page in is set at 88%.

In my days, I've found that setting the table to a fixed size works well for me. By setting your table at a certain percentage, it is telling the browser to fill the screen to that amount. My browsing is done using Netscapes browser, and the screen is set at a resolution of 1024x768. Because my browser is set at this resolution, I am seeing a table which is only about 665 pixels wide... not wide enough for 7 webpageindexrock.jpg images set at 128x123 to line up side by side across the top.

I don't mean for you to think I am pestering you. Just understand that every browser brand will read what you create in a diferent manor. Also, people don't always keep thier screen set at the manufactured setting. If you want your viewers to see the perfect product, you've got to look at it with many diferent browsers and setting combonations.
One final item to think about while tweaking your domain... While the Netscape browser did not allow your jpg images to sit side by side, it did allow all of your links in the green field to line up in one row. Internet Explorer allowed all the images to sit side by side, but did not allow the "contacts" link to line up with the rest of your green field links. It was centered on a second row. Reason for this... IE and Netscape read font size a bit diferently. IE reads a bit larger. I do not know why.

No apology necessary, goat, I never once viewed your comments as pesky. In fact, thanks are in order. Constructive criticsm is the best tool one can have in order to move ahead. I wasn't aware of that with Netscape. Thanks for letting me know! I'll do some tweaking in the days and weeks to come.

And thanks again everyone for checking it out. I'm having a blast building my site. It's especially great for my family and friends down south to read about my treks and see the pics whenever they'd like. I highly recommend it to anyone who's had even a slight inkling to build a site. It's relatively easy to learn, yet a fun challenge at the same time.

Hey, Goat... In regards to the problem you discovered with the webpageindexrock.jpg... What if I combined those seven images to form one image? I would think that Netscape would probably then automatically put up a horizontal scroll bar if needed, rather than drop one of the images to the next line?

Those blastid Apple users will just have to deal with it and get a PC like the rest of us. j/k ;-)

yes... combining the images to make one long image is an easy way to fix the problem. It will force the 88% table to expand. An easier fix may be to make a graphic which is only 1 pixel high and 896 pixels wide. Set it within the table and at the top of your page. It should force the table to open up.
