Gem - they have a great bluegrass station, several jazz stations, and a heck of alot of rock stations.

You'll enjoy it!

Be sure to check for coupon codes if you are buying online. You can find some sweet deals.

Six in one... half dozen of the other. My friend has Sirius... I have XM. Main difference to me is Opey and Anthony v Stern (personally I can't stand stern) and NFL v. Baseball. I'd give Sirius the edge on rock music channels.

Gem - you have to buy both a home and car kit. The car kit plugs into your cig lighter, and then transfers the service thru wireless technology. You can use the same Sirius unit for both home and car (it detaches)

can you listen to Sirius over your computer. I know you can with XM didn't know if Sirius offered that.

XM has the same setup has Sirius as far as listening at home or in your car. Only real difference is channels.

go to www.xmradio.com to see what it has to offer

okay.
my new car stereo is already statellite compatible, so I guess all i need is a satellite tuner.

is that what you all have?

or do you have this thing:
http://about.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=12754085/search=portable%20satellite%20radio

They told me that the music quality isn't as great with the addons and I should go with a tuner. I dun know

XM has comedy uncensored which is pretty funny the 40's on 4 50's on 5 ect ect... then country and blue grass stations 10-16 pop on 20-23. Rock stations are in the mid 40's to 50's Plus if your in a big city XM will have traffic reports up in the 200 stations.

My favorite Sirius stars channel is 103. Adam Curry's Pod casting is entertaining if you like talk radio. Madge Weinstein has some good shows, Dawn and Drew, and Jay Thomas.

I think i'll check the external units and decide what to get. Looking at all the channels, Sirius has an atlanta weather channel, which is closer to SC, but that's bout it.

sirus has an EMIMEN channel. hmm...that could get me sold.

AND sirus has a Marth Stewart channel. hahahaha, j/k I really don't care!

The only thing that's prevented me from getting a system so far is that I just can't get past the fact that I will ultimately be paying for channels I don't listen to---same reason I hate cable television. The day either one allows me to pick and choose and pay for only what I use, I'm there.

I have xm and looooove it for long road trips. I have heard in various discussions that sirius tends to play more of the music you'd hear on FM, while xm tends to play deeper tracks. Even xm's 'top tracks' station plays stuff regularly that I've never heard.

Also, I believe XM recently signed Oprah to a deal, and XM will also be broadcasting the World Cup this summer (woohoo!).

I would tend to agree that the two services will probably end up merging or get purchased (by sat tv networks?) eventually. Shoot, XM already has a deal with DirecTV, and Sirius has a deal with Dish, so it's probably not far off.

xm
i have the pioneer in car system in my truck, i also have the delphi skifi 2...the kit for michelles car, and the boombox and stereo adapter. I also listen online on 1-2 computers....xm has a better quality codec and signal quality. xm is the #1 cat with 6mil subscribers while sirius has 3

xm has xtreme language channels and blocking. you get a more uncensored package with xm...but also the chance to screen those channels that air it.
they lost discovery and another good channel recently...and sirius has one extra dance station

that's what I get for asking them about my speakers. now they are trying to sell me a $1200 speaker, amp, subwoofer system.

I love loud music on long trips, but woahh, there got to be a cheaper alternative.

sat radio: I Think I'll go with the sirius, but will go with the tuner and not the cigarette lighter set.

i LOVE my sirius!!!! I havnt listened to the radio since december.

i chose it over xm because of a few of the talk stations(not howard stern), as well as hard attack 27, xm doesnt have anything that touches that metal station.

I do suggest an in dash setup, not the FM braodcast. the compression followed by the fm broadcast back into my radio is ok, but not CD quality

Stern is supposed to be sued by I believe it's clear channel who was his old sponsor/owner?, because he advertised his leaving and going to Sirius on what was their programming. He also advertised big time on Letterman before he left to have his listeners follow him.

I won't pay for radio. I do go into areas in WA that do not get radio stations for short period of time, but that is when I put in the cd or I start out my trip to some far off camping/hiking destination with a book on tape. Besides, when I'm on the northwest part of the state on the coast, then the Canadian stations come in.

"Pay for radio" is just one more bill to add to a list of bills most of us already pay, like cable tv, cell phones, internet, etc. It's become very popular to get whatever is new on the market without realizing how each monthly payment adds up at the end of the year.

Sirius can be heard over the net. They have a 3 day free internet subscription deal.

I'm not ready to spend my money for radio service, but I might try the 3 day trial some day.

yeah, last weekend I realized again how quickly you can get tired of your recorded music. Radio connection was lousy. I think satellite will be worth the $.

They now tell me that I hve to go with the sirius on my stereo. NOt sure why that would be the case. I am gonna shop around.

some headunits are hardwired for one or the other. they both have the same lineup more or less. get either, you'll love it, and never listen to fm again....because you'll be able to read the name of artist and song you will buy more cd's and download stuff you never thought of...but still sat all the time...lol

Cool thing about sat radio is you can pay for service in huge chunks (multi-year plans save you a few bucks a month), or if you pay in shorter spans, it doesn't matter if you let service lapse a bit when you aren't listening. Within an hour of paying over the web, you'll have service again.

I just completed a huge project comparing XM and Sirius as companies. I won't bore anyone with the details, but one note of interest is that they are collaboratively developing a unit that will work for either service. A sign of things to come? I don't know.

I don't like the new XM and since I got my iPod I let the subscription go. I was going to renew but they had this automated dialer calling the house like three times a day telling me to renew. The more they called the more I wasn't resubscribing.

I cancelled for the same reason as Nigal and didn't renew for the same reason.

the stock is not in the crapper because people are not listening. It is in the crapper bc Sirius and XM give away massive amounts of money to their radio personalities and it's now time to pay up and they can't.

Howard Stern
Oprah
Opie and Anthony

NASCAR

i think when the two were competing, they paid out too much money to attract the talent. Now they are one, and stuck with the deal. TIME TO RENEGOTIATE!!

I'm waffling about re-subscribing. I've always had reception issues and haven't found a music station that didn't play too many tunes that suck.

Still better than regular radio though...
