Just curious
I'm curious how all the different turkey dinners were prepared the other day.

My brother and sister-in-law marinaded their bird in honey mustard and worcestshire sauce and seasonings overnight. The next morning they filled the cavity with onions and sage, wrapped the whole thing with bacon and two sticks of butter pats, and then covered it with an olive oil soaked cheesecloth.

It was to die for. The turkey was by far the juiciest, most tender I have ever tasted.

Two turkeys:

1. Weber BBQ. Stuffed with homemade stuffing made from lots of types of seasoned breads (my daughter works at a bakery). Bird was kept moist in the BBQ with a pan of hot water seasoned with wine and garlic. Basted the turkey regularly to give the skin a rich, dark color. The juice makes awesome gravy.

2. Deep fried in peanut oil. Turkey was injected with one pint of creole garlic marinade before deep frying. Turkey comes out yummy and juicy (not oily!!).

These are the only way we cook turkeys around our house any more. No more dry meat!!

We did the deep fry last year and it turned out great. I don't know why we did not do it again.

My cousin roasted it in this electric roasting pan thingee. Other than stuffing it with the usual bread stuffing, they didn't do anything special. Man, was that turkey ever delicious!! Best ever....

The first dinner I went to the turkey was cooked in a roaster. It was good. The second dinner I went to I was served baked chicken and wild goose. I liked the goose best!

when i was driving on the interstate up to the Mt. Rogers trip last month I was following a huge 18 wheeler full of turkeys, it was dark and rainy and white feathers were blowing into my windsheild for about 50 miles... i decided i would not buy a turkey this year and my son cares more about the baked sweet potatos anyway...
so, I did baby back ribs on the fire pit outside , used some of the downed dead hickory tree..yummy..had marinated in mojo (garlic, lemon, orange, grapefruit juice, cilantro) then honey ginger glazed at the end....cooked the entire meal outside on the fire....roasted yellow squash, sweet potatos, mushrooms and sweet onions, and skillet fried apples topped with vanilla ice cream for dessert. thank god my son took all the leftovers home....

Stuffed, covered in bacon slices and cooked in the oven. It was my first turkey without a timer and I didn't buy a thermometer and it came out perfect.

Did the turkey in the oven with one of those roaster bags. It keeps it nice and juicy, browns nicely and cooks a little quicker. It was delicious! It also keeps the roaster pan spotless.

At least you were humane TDale.

OK, we fixed ours in a bag this year. It came out OK. Some of the breast meat was even juicy still. I have a lot of it left, gonna put it in freezer bags and pull it out from time to time.

I also smoked a ham. It was really really good.

We got a nice smoked turkey breast from the guy across the street. He's the best BBqer I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Every holiday he brings over some meat. =) We give him sweets.

Be Prepared
My turkey had Vasque hiking boots; North Face tent, pack, and sleeping bag; Pocket Rocket stove; titanium cookware, the latest wicking clothing; Magellan GPS; and a Tilly hat. He was one well-prepared turkey, I can tell you that!

Oven bag, like skiracer, with my homemade sausage/sage stuffing in it. Ours turned out drier than a bone, probably because my sister-in-law had the bright idea to cut the bag open and put a cranberry glaze on top of it.

Not the best turkey I've had.

Rodent found inside Christmas turkey

GRANBY - Valorie J. Macy remembers the exact moment on Christmas morning when she thought seriously about becoming a vegetarian.

She was at the kitchen sink, preparing to stuff the turkey, when she said she discovered an unexpected surprise in the bird's cavity.

"I wanted it to be the little giblet bag but it was definitely a frozen mouse or rat," she said last week.

Macy of 128 School St. had just removed the neck and giblets and was giving the bird a second rinse when a furry little rat or mouse plopped out into the sink.

"I looked away and looked back, hoping it would be gone," she said. "I wanted it to be some kind of hallucination." Macy said the black, big-eared rodent was about 6 or 7 inches long including tail, with a body of 3 to 4 inches.

Her 23-year-old son, Christopher, had brought the frozen, approximately 12-pound turkey home days earlier. It was given to him as a Christmas gift from his employer, whom Macy declined to name.

A spokesman for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which is investigating, also refused to identify the company.

"I accused my son of playing a sick joke on me," Macy said.

Macy said the turkey had been shrink-wrapped in a Norbest Inc. package with netting around it, and had not originally come from a supermarket, but was part of an order for her son's company.
[...]
Norbest bills itself as the one of the leading turkey distributors in the world. The company motto, according to its Web site, is "Perfect turkey every time."

Not every time, Macy would argue.

I deep fried three turkeys Christmas morning. A 16 pounder for the family to eat that day and two twelve pounders for my sis and Uncle to take home.

I really don't know, now that you mention it. I never thought to ask. But then, he could have just been a backpacking turkey, like all of us.
