TOPO - a stupid question

How did I do this?
OK, so I'm sitting here playing around & mapping out the High Sierra Trail for the big trip. I'm doing some "analysis" on daily distances, etc., and in the process "split" the trail in a few places, and then "re-join" them later. Now, whenever I build an elevation profile, it starts from the END of my trip at Mt. Whitney and builds backwards!

This isn't a big deal, but it's driving me nuts. How did I do this, and more importantly, how can I fix it?

Thanks to you tech types for any help!

Which Program Are You Using?
National Geographic or Delorme?

TOPO is the Nat'l Geo app, I think Delorme calls theirs something else.

Draw a little bit more on the trail at the point you want to be the end of the route. The pointer should turn to a pencil with a plus sign. This will change the direction of the route.

Lumberzac, you're a ##^$ genius! Go have a cold one, it's on me!

Seriously, thanks a lot, this was driving me nuts, I even went to the extreme & opened up the "HELP" section!

If anyone's interested, the High Sierra Trail trip is about 58.02 miles, we gain 19,024 feet & lose 11,374. Of course, add the obligatory 15% or so to compensate for all the switchbacks & trail changes that can't be accurately plotted!

Could you please tell my family and friends that. I try to tell them the same, but they never believe me.

Need some help here!!!

I'm mapping out a bike tour I hope to do late Sept. Problemo is that once I get to the edge of the map section on one CD, I am informed to insert the next CD to continue the route. Now when I insert the "new" CD the comp either crashes or all saved route info is missing from the map route/profile, i.e, the previous CD info.

I have tried installing the whole California set on my comp but that didn't help.

Am I going to have to make separate maps/profiles for the Tahoe, Lassen, Eureka, Solano, San Fran regions? I'd like to get the whole route on one map/profile.

Thanks for any help.

Bill, check your email.

hmmmm... don't know what the problem could be, when it asks you to insert another disk it should also ask if you want to cache the nearby maps from the disk you have in. Is it not at least doing that?

If not I'd first try uninstalling, then reinstalling.

I assume you already rebooted...

Steve, got the email.

Bison, yeah, I cached the neighboring maps.

Good news. It's working now. Don't know what I did but I must have the Midas Touch!

Thanks for the help, Gentlemen.

Computers are stupid, sometimes it takes awhile for them to understand the instructions.

There is a button to switch from single map view to the full.....I forgot about that.

OK, TOPO users... my turn (and are any of you using an Etrex Legend?)

Oh yeah, and the huge instruction booklets drive me nuts! lol

I have drawn routes in TOPO and then let the program plot a GPS route (what do find is the best option for doing this?)

OK, how do I:
1. Export those GPS points into my Legend? (which I have not even connected to the computer yet)

2. Export those GPS points onto a different TOPO map? (once we get past this -- and once someone actually gets me the mapping software used by the Legend -- I'll have a question on putting it into that mapping software)

Does the "merge" command have something to do with it? I was trying to export, I think, then import....

Also, what's your rationale on naming the waypoints? Do you put letters in front?

Let me mention I have some older software for some of it. My National Parks and state of South Dakota are apparently Version 2.7 and my Backroads for all 50 states is 3.0, I think

OK... enough stupid TOPO questions for now. :-) Thanks!

Lizs I have a legend, I have no idea about sending info to the unit from Topo, I use mapsource for that. I do however upload info such as tracks and waypoints from my unit to Topo.
