Pig Roast in a Monsoon!View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 6 of 6 messages posted.
What a Blast... “It started out at 7:30am this morning, pouring down rain and wind gusts up to 45 mph. My buddys and I struggled setting up the tarps in the fierce wind and rain, which almost lifted three grown men into the air like we were nothing. Once we got the tarps up, and tied down, we then dug a pit and again fought the wind to get the fire going. The match light wouldn't work, the wood charcoal wouldn't light, but you know what did? Vasaline cotton balls... ha! Much to my friends disbelief. It pays to be a backpacker!! We hoisted the 60lb pig on to the homemade grill (4x4 steel grating) and proceeded to marinade, roast, drink beer and BS for about five hours, all the while working the coals from side to side to control the heat. We also used Banana leaves to cover the pig and trap in moisture. It wasn't backpacking, but it was one hell of a good time. The winds destroyed my freestanding tarp, and we got soaked, but that was the best tasting pig I have ever eaten. Anybody up for leftovers? last edited: 11/28/04 8:31:55 PM” 8:28:18 PM 11/28/04 “Hell yea! Pass some over here!” 9:18:48 PM 11/28/04 “We have so much left over, I'll be eating it for days.” 5:58:51 AM 11/29/04 “where was this? Sounds like a good way to spend Thanksgiving to me! :-)” 7:15:26 AM 11/29/04 Lizs... “It wasn't exactly Thanksgiving, but it was a big family and friends party in NJ. Everyone showed up around 2pm, by that time we had the pig almost done.” 6:42:12 PM 11/29/04 Sweet! “So are we up for walking it off on, oh I don't know....say, Mt Tammany for an afternoon this weekend?” 10:41:08 PM 11/29/04
