A Lesson in Geography
Hey BM, Memphis is on the Mississippi River, Knoxville is near Georgia, North Carolina, and the Smoky Mountains.

Knoxville looks like a really cool area, on the map at least, I came thru Johnson City and Asheville, NC, last fall, and it sure looked nice around there.

Big State, eh?

Is there an East/West political divide?

You can hike the Alum Cave trail every weekend! That is reason enough!

yep there is..Chili is moving into Bush country.

BTW it takes anywhere from 9-10 hrs to drive from the east part of the state (Bristol) to the west part (memphis).

I can go to Florida in that time from nashville
Ewker

Knoxville is a great town. I’ve lived here since 1982. I travel with my work and I have been in almost every state in the lower 48. If you are into the outdoors and want to live in a metropolitan environment, Knoxville is the best place east of the Mississippi River. Knoxville is a big town, about 600,000 in the SMA, compared to Memphis which I would consider a small city. From the town’s view point there is a lot to offer, friendly people, great restaurants, UT sports and a reasonable night life. From the outdoor perspective we have lakes, white water rivers, Appalachian Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau. Within 4 hours of Knoxville there are several thousand miles of trails, 900 miles in the GSMNP alone. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks relay. When I left there 20 years ago, I said I would be back one day. This could be it.

Well, lets put it this way. I am moving from an area that is pretty much a dark blue on the political map to an area that is scarlett.

Why do I have the feeling that you are still holding out for a better looking job?
"This could be it."
I'm waiting to hear you say, "This is it!" If the location is what you want, I would think you would grab it without any hesitation.

I am thinking about heading to the Smokies this weekend. I will be doing the car camping thing though. Stay at Cosby and do some short hikes from there.
I haven't been to the Smokies in quite a while.

When does the Cades Cove camp grounds close or do they?

CC doesn't close I don't think. I love CC. Abrams Falls would be a good hike.

i lied on the other thread
I meant Smokemount instead of Elkmont.. got me 'monts mixed up!

Two of the three major campgrounds will remain open all year. These year-round campgrounds are Cades Cove in Tennessee and Smokemont in North Carolina. Starting November 1, they will be on a self-registration basis with a reduced number of available sites. Elkmont Campground in Tennessee will remain open through the Thanksgiving weekend and will be closed on December 1.

Maybe some TT'ers need to help you house hunt to make sure you get something big enough for the frequent overnight guests you are about to start having. TD, this sounds like a job for you.

LMAO.

I think chili and socks need a large party home... fit for several guests on a frequent basis. In fact, Id suggest a separate wing for the occasional BP hosteling guest.

Could you set it up to have it's own kitchen and bathroom facilities?

Smokygirl, thanks.

Yes that would be great. I will get in touch with you after the move. I have an option here that I am weighing this weekend but have to make up my mind by Monday or Tuesday. The 99.9% odds are we are moving.

The wild card in the deck is that I have launched a business with my father in law and another partner.

We have gained substantial traction in just a few weeks and I have a meeting with one of the largest law firms in Arkansas next Monday that could give us a real boost.

If this thing takes off, it will be life changing. Problem is, I really need to think stability for a while.

All just part of the decision process.

Cottonsocks and I have had longer, more in depth discussion over this decision that anything else for the time we have been married.

After a lot of "weighing the options"; soul searching; prayer and discussion, it is a done deal.

I report for duty in Charlotte the 20th. I will be in Knoxville for a week after Christmas; two more weeks of training in Charlotte and then I will be calling East TN home again.......for the first time in 20 years.

Now is this pronounced NashVILLE or NashVOLE?

It's a huge thing to move far Chili. Glad you guys are both ok with it. That is the type of stress no marriage needs. The one who gives in never forgets it. If I could get my wife on board to move to Michigan…
