Ok people as I have never bought gear for dogs before I need some tips. How do I fit miss sasha for a pack? also do they have little dog tents? Our tent would not be big enough for two people and a dog.

I do seem to remember seeing a dog tent in one of the catalogs last year at Christmas time. I wish I could remember which one. It sure cracked me up at the time. Perhaps a small children's play tent would work?

Here's a tent for dogs. It doesn't say how much it weighs.

Our local outfitter is cool about customers bringing their pets in to get fitted for gear. I've seen 2 dobermans and a great dane getting their packs there, very neat.

Shanedog sleeps in my tent. It helps keep my feet warm.

He carries granite gear collapsible bowls, his food, his polar fleece coat (for cold evenings), a doggie-run line and caribiner, his food and water in a pack. I've seen nicer packs, I think also by granite gear.

WK yeah, i think shes just about ready...She listens and obeys me when I take her for walks off the leash well now. After the fourth mile though she starts to slow down so I think she needs to work on endurance eh?

Well I wanna get her used to a pack first so i am doing some x-mas shopping for sassha.
WK...I think she probebly could if we take my heavy northface tent along (The one Mike hates) otherwise our PCT2 would be too small...heck it barely fits the two of us.

SC the only thing i would worry about with h my dog in a seperate tent would be her getting out to chase animals. There have been several nights when my dog has growled and want to go out and investigate something. With my luck it would be a skunk.

i think bass pro shops has little kiddie tents you could put your dog in.
i found the backpack takes away from keef's fun on the trail. he wants to go swimming all the time and if he gets to running around he constantly knocks into trees because he doesn't realize he's extra wide. i've all but given up on it. i'll carry the little bowl for water and a plastic grocery bag with food in it. he drinks out of every mudhole we come across so i don't really need any extra water most of the time. i'm getting ready to give up on bringing dog food also, it just ends up in the dirt. for some reason, he won't eat it. i might just start bringing extra people dinner for him. i also carry part of a z rest if it's cold and put my clothes over top of him at night.

Hey, someone ( I forgot his name!) on the last Ocala trip had a spiderman kiddie tent for his dog. Who was that? The dog was being trained as a service dog, but I think she made a better trail dog.

ductape if it were that easy for my picky dog then I would save money and do that too BUT sassha refuses to drink trail water. She will not drink from stream or lake, heck she barely even wants tap watter. She likes filtered/ bottled water and refuses to eat dry dog food. She will NOT swim unless I do a lot of coaxing and swimming myself. I am trying to work on that dry dog food thing by mixing it with a little bit of wet dog food.

but she is VERY well behaved treebait :) She comes when called ALWAYS and will stay right by me on the trail when I say "Stay". She doesnt jump on people (unless they invite her too) and wont bother strangers at all. I still dont know how she would react around horses but I can put her on a leash quickly if I see em coming.

here's a doggie tent I found from a mail order catalogue called "collections etc."

Everything in that catalog is $14.99...

Wolfpacks is the best pack to me with Caribou coming in on a close second. I teach my pups to sleep in the vestible and if the weather is rainy the siltarp goes in their pack. I caribine the leash to the tent guy to prevent night time adventures. Purina sells a dry ground beef style dog food that does not require refrigeration, I had a friend several years ago that used it for his dog on trips. My chow is a finicky eater at home but on the trail she eats kibble as soon as it hits the bowl.

I only bring the dog into the tent in exteme cold. She might be a chow but she is still acclimated to sleeping in a nice warm house at night. I also bring a piece of cheapo closed cell pad for her to sleep on.

I have seen doggie tents, but do not remember what catologs they were in. My Chihuahua would not stand for being in her own tent. She has to be with me, plus if it's cold, she needs to be in my sleeping bag with me to keep warm.

A 3-1/2 pounds full grown, I wonder how much I can get her to carry, lol:)

i've only brought my dog on 1 overnighter. she loved it; literally was a natural. i kept her on the leash most of the time while hiking because, afterall, it was her first time and i wasn't sure how she'd handle seeing other hikers. she did just fine.

the only thing i wish i would have brought was some kind of pad for her to sleep on. it was VERY cold that night with snow on the ground and she wound up hogging my thermarest all night curled up under my feet under my bag. i wound up having to open my bag so she could get in it (sorta). she's a big dog (lab) so i couldn't exactly curl up with her in a closed bag.

she also has a wolfpack, which she hated at first but now everytime she sees it, she thinks she's going hiking and gets excited. and she's only been hiking once!

My Chihuahua loves to hike. She loves to be harnessed up (harnesses are better for chis), and go hiking. She loves the down sleeping bag too and goes right to the bottom to sleep. I have an extra long bag, so there is plenty of room for her. I don't know how she breathes down there. These dogs love to be covered up when they sleep and love to sleep on their backs.

Capri has been on many camping trips. I have a front carrying pouch for her too if the trail is too rough for her to walk on.
