i'm soooo fargin pissed right now and need to vent...for 5+ years i've worked 8-5...a "co-worker" (in quotes cause he doesn't actually work) asked me to switch to the 9-6 shift with him every tuesday so he can go to his stupid pyramid scheme amway sales meetings...i told him maybe every once in a while but due to day care etc. i couldn't do it on a regular basis...the little weasel went above my head to our manager and now i'm being forced to switch with the little back stabber every other week!!!...this all would have been avoided if the little sneak would have just requested vacation time for this like most people but he's trying to get out of using it...this is the straw that broke the camels back for both him and my boss...my boss makes great business decisions but loves to micromanage the little things that mean nothing…she has no discretion...i've been giving them both the benefit of the doubt for a long time but that just ended...i really need a new job!!!!

Go to your boss and ask to switch every other Wednesday with the same co-worker.

Did you give her hell? You should certainly complain ... daycare trumps amway.

already been there

"for consistency blah blah blah..."
"other people have day care blah blah blah..."
"other people switch shifts blah blah blah..."

the upper management in our department has a history of backing middle management no matter what the decision…where's a union when you need one ;)

to be honest with you i'm less pissed at my boss than i am my coworker...she acted exactly as i expected her to and i'm sure he expected it too...the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior...she's very "by the book"...oh well...i think this is the final push i needed to pursue other ventures...if it wasn't for my wife and kids today may just have been my last

hey thrifty, that is pretty irritating - i'd say you have a legitimiate beef. You've arranged your daily family committments around YOUR work schedule - without asking the company or anyone else to modify their own daily schedule in any way. This fella has now taken on a personal item that inteferes with HIS work schedule and is now asking the company to modify other employees daily schedules to fit HIS personal choice. I'd write up a very professionaly worded message along those lines and ask your boss to reconsider her asking you to change your schedule - it's going to cause a ripple effect on your wife (presumably) and mess up your day care..... to answer her point - yes, other people have day care and they work thier daily schedule around it without impacting other peoples lives. His choice to do Amway is his problem, not yours, or the company's.

I'd never ask one employee to change their schedule for this sort of reason - that's what PTO is for - or tell him to come in early those days, work thru lunch, (if that's an option in this case).

I really don't have any annoying co-workers. In-fact, we are such a great group, the boss lady took us all out to eat at a restraunt yesterday and gave us all gas gift cards! :D

My office mate drives me batty sometimes...she's out a lot though...

She talks loudly and constantly, and enunciates each word very precisely...she has some little OCD rituals each day, but fortunately I don't have to watch.

what does drive me crazy are the 2 hour life lessons she gives to some young friend of hers...I just want to say, THINK PEOPLE!!!...there is someone else in this office (and frankly, I want to pipe up and say that if I'd had advice from her when I was 26 and building a house, I never would have done it!)...and then they put their coats on and go out for break...I think she gets in about 2 hours a day of work.

I'm training a 19 year old girl right now. She's blond to boot. Oh, and she talks non stop. Oh and she knows everything. I think by the time she's trained I will have opened the car door and shoved her out while on the interstate.

I'm an hour late today (snow!) and my office mate gets here two minutes before me...decides I'm not here so she'll listen to the radio...then, obviously I'm here (she knows since she talked to me) and she keeps it on...I turned it off.
I HATE radios at work...

“give her an ipod and a text phone...you'll never hear a word from her”

LOL! I have to train her on how to use the software on the company PDA and I can't get the damn out of her hands now. Last night when we were done we had this conversation:

Nigal: Can you hand me the pda?

Trainee: OK, just a sec.

Nigal: Just give it here.

Trainee: OK, hang on (trying to start the program she can't even log onto)

Nigal: I want to phucking go home. Give me the pda.

Trainee: Gawd, here. Grumpy old man.

I swear this girl is absolutely amazing and astounding! How she has learned everything there is to know in the history of mankind in her short 19 years is just flabbergasting! She did something with a patient and said, "Here, we'll show Craig a little trick." as if I didn't know what she was doing. I just looked at her and said, "You do realize I've been a caregiver almost as long as you've been alive, right?".
Nigal

Just start calling her "Young Grasshopper." It'll annoy the hell out of her and amuse some of the patients.

Try training a kid fresh out of "school" who wants to use all the high tech "adjusting programs". Got this kid fresh out of college. He spent at least an hour trying to get the lap top program to run. Meantime I am finishing up a rough drawing and taking measurements.

The great thing about tech firms is that they tend to want to upgrade just when we get this crap worked out.

Learning the phrase "busting a grumpy" made opening this thread well worth the effort. Nothing better than being my age and tossing around a phrase or two that my younger friends haven't heard yet.

Gotta be when the person you've been hiking with for 10 days, hasn't been able to "poop" for that long. When that person finally poops, he/she's no longer grumpy. Thus, "busting a grumpy."
