And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were merry, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire...

Man, I think a lot of the people who still work in the office (as opposed to at home) are haters! Every time one of the at-home people ask for something from another department, they get treated like dog poo. LOL! I asked for something to be sent out like 3 times, starting 2 weeks ago, and they never even answered my emails!! I had to call them, and she said it was sent out "yesterday," which was Sunday. Ooookay! I think god's just punishing them for being mean by making them still have to go in to work.

Actually I do about 10 times the amount of work I ever did at the office! However I have to admit I do sometimes wear jammies until noon.
:-D

I just can't stand passive-aggressive people. If you think something isn't your job to do, then say so! However it is their job to do what I asked them. So they just ignore me! I won't have it!!! haha.

AND we saved the company like a ton of money b/c they were able to rent out the entire floor we used to take up, to another company. They heart us! THRIFTYHIKER. So there!

HAHA!

Our company publishes a set of directories on all the TV stations & cable systems in the country. Well they publish other things too, but that's our department, and everyone in it works at home. We also have about 20 part-time researchers and database people, and I'm their supervisor. So I train them all and give them their projects over the phone, mail, and email.

The monkeys are a bunch of slackers!! :-D

Well I think the people I supervise would notice if I didn't give them their projects, or answer their questions! Since they're part-time, they only get work (and hence money) if I give it to them, and you can believe I make sure I do! Don't worry, they heart me. I even supervise my own mom!! So that really reminds me how important it is to be a good supervisor, LOL.

I think TT is a great example of why people shouldn’t be able to work from home. The people ‘round here can’t be trusted work when they’re at work. Gawd help the GNP if everyone was at home.

Nigal, is it that time of the month again?

Well don't forget, I don't have co-workers around to shoot the breeze with. I think anyone would go nuts if they literally did nothing but work for 8 straight hours every day. TT is a nice refreshing break every now and then! Also since my kitchen is like 10 steps away, I don't have to take an hour-long lunch break...and I don't have a commute so I don't get to work already frustrated and worn-out, like I used to. Also I can use that extra time for work, and I have all my stuff I need if I ever want to work at night. My work day doesn't really have a definite beginning and end, so I'm always able to get everything done that I need to.

We only have 6 full-time people on our staff, all of whom have worked for the company for around 15 or more years, except for me. So we all know each other well, and can trust each other. At a bigger company, it would probably be more of an issue.

I have heard of some airline that "lets" its people work at home...but they have to have a webcam pointing at them the entire time, so they can be watched!! Now THAT would suck, LOL.

i got revenge!!!...i might not have been on the right person but oh well, it all comes around...i have this coworker who has a bmw z3...he loves his beemer...doesn't really make enough to afford it but he as like 5 roommates so his living expenses are next to nil...last week he got rear ended so his bumper is going to need to be replaced...i put a bumper sticker on his car that says cowboy's butts drive me nuts...i thought, his bumper is going to be replaced anyway so what the heck...he was a good sport about it

“Nigal, is it that time of the month again?"

Naw! I like to give the time thieves a hard time here. It would be interesting to put a value on one's time at work, figure the amount of time spent on the internet and see how much money an employee wastes on TT per year.

it's like i explain it to my coworkers...i don't smoke, it's my cigarette break...i know some people in my company that actually spend more time smoking than i do on here
thriftyhiker

Why are the smokers getting extra time in the first place? Any place I've ever worked it was a 15 minute break in the morning and a 15 minute break in the afternoon and a lunch break. You should have your boss nip that crap in the bud toot sweet. Believe me, your smoking buddies will thank you for it.

ssshhhh, less smoking time for them means less TT time for me

we only have one smoker in the office where I work. She takes an avg of 10 smoke breaks a day at 5 minutes per break. Luckily she has to go outside to smoke but she brings the butts back in. Her office stinks and so does she.

makes me so glad I quit smoking yrs ago. Guess I never knew how bad I smelled from smoking.

Oh okay, well since I was the only one talking about working at home, and on TT no less, I thought you were hatin'! You did basically say "NO ONE" here should be working at home, I thought. Anyhoo!

I've had to fire people for not being productive enough...which isn't fun! Kinda puts things in perspective though, makes me think about how much time I spend working. It does seem like the more someone trusts you and gives you responsibility, the more you want to make sure not to mess up! Most days I really appreciate being able to work at home.

priceless conversation about athomeworkers.
I do a lot of my work from home. Allows family time to flex in and out of my life, more often sometimes than is productive, but life is more than productivity... as long as the work is steady and pay is ok. Go for it Lyra. Nice to hear that someone out there still believes in trust.

Yeah, it's pretty cool, isn't it hiking?

There is a certain amount of trust involved, but if someone is doing something untoward, there are enough checks and balances that it gets noticed pretty quickly, at least at our company. When I tell people I'm my own mom's boss, and turn in her hours to payroll, they're like, "Whaaaat!" But there was a guy working for our company several years ago who tried to double-bill the company for his mom's work (we hire part-timers sometimes from want-ads, and sometimes from people we know personally)...we all found out about it and he and his mom got fired, pronto! People think they're pretty sneaky, but in the end, if you're not holding up your end of the deal, it starts to show pretty quick...no matter where you're working from.

Agree, Lyra. though turning in mother's payroll gets a good laugh. Trust is fragile. Trust is worthwhile. And it makes all the difference in the world to be able to hold up your own end of the deal on time too.

Because of a heating issue they moved some maintenance corkers in cubicles near us.

The head dude keeps saying "supposebly".

It's "supposedly"!!! Dude, you're like 45 years old!

Dude probably says "pasghetti" also.

One thing that drives me crazy is when people say words completely wrong. Like wash being said as warsh. Fish being said as feesh. For some reason my highly educated and highly intelligent wife says frustrated as fustrated. I call her on it every single time but to no avail.

and don't even get me STARTED on ebonics!
