I gots the knob.

I don't like what SC is saying about me not being able to drink a boiler maker. That is just crap!

I can't pour it down my throat like Ruby can. I enjoy it by sipping on it.
Wounded Knee

I didn't know it was possible to sip a boilermaker. Isn't the whole purpose of one to see how fast you can knock one back?

To each his own though. If you wanna sip your boilermaker then who am I to say different? It's your drink, and your drunk. You can get there any way you choose.
MEANGREEN

I don't necessarly sip it, but I cannot down like Ruby can. It is a pretty scary sight. She literally opens her mouth and pours the beverage down.

except my greatgrandpappys shine.....i miss him....
backpackerbryan
2:58:24 PM
9/22/07

oh now see corn liquor is something entirely different. It's sweet, and hot, and isn't aged in chared oak to mellow it or add different flavors.
Shine can be aged in jars with fruit to give it flavor though.
meangreen
3:05:29 PM
9/22/07

lol...well, it depends on whos it is....the best of my grandpappys stuff was actually aged in oak barrels...i dont know what u call it then....granted my favorite was the muscadine shine
backpackerbryan
3:17:48 PM
9/22/07

if it was actually barrel aged then it was technically whiskey. If it was new charred white oak barrels, then it was bourbon.

Muskadine shine? Really? Cool! Did he age the shine with the muskadine grapes?

hmm....truth be told i dont know....i wish he was still alive to ask...i do have part of the still though.....ive got the worm, just part of something from him.....
as for the barrels....i know he reused them later on..he quit running shine around 1980 or so, i was born a few years later and he ran a special run for me....ive got bout half of a case left and im saving it...i drank way to much in HS
backpackerbryan
3:26:00 PM

but
i remember the barrels though....i tried my damnedest to get one at the auction...they went for as much as 500 dollars
backpackerbryan
3:27:20 PM
9/22/07

I would be inclined to believe that. It's part of what makes bourbon so expensive to make. The barrels can only be used once for true bourbon, then they are sold off to other distillers for making things like canadian whiskey, and irish whisky, tennessee whiskey, and god forbid american blended whiskey (aka rot gut) and scotch.

i wanted one just for the aroma.....i was planning on using two of them to build a desk but....oh well

That would have been very cool. Put your desk in a small office and WOW can you immagine the smell?! You could get lit just sitting in there and breathing deeply! LOL!

Well, by all means then...
Damn the politics, and hoist yer flaggon! We seem to be on the same page with many topics.

Now back to the booze: My real favorite is Rare breed neat but frozen. Keep the bottle at around 0* F and just sip it. It ain't cheap, and it ain't for the faint hearted, but if you have a taste for good whiskey, this is unarguably GOOOOOOOD stuff. It's bottled by wild turkey. It is small batch, and goes straight from the barrel to the bottle, somewhere between 106 and 118 proof. Each lot is slightly unique that way.

June 16, 2005 - Pernod Ricard USA announces the release of the new Russell's Reserve, a 10-year-old, small batch bourbon created by Master Distiller Jimmy Russell. It was crafted with the help of his son Eddie Russell, a specialist in barrel science and maturation. Both men are long time veterans of the Austin Nichols Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.

Russell's Reserve was created as the perfect 10-year-old bourbon. "Both Eddie and I believe 10 years is a wonderful stage of maturity for a bourbon,"? comments Jimmy. "At this age,"? adds Eddie, "it has a crispness and complexity of flavor, yet is memorably smooth." Released in a distinctive 750 ml bottle, it will be available nationally in September.

A living legend in the crafting of whiskey, Jimmy's legendary distilling knowledge and skill were essential in the creation of Russell's Reserve. With help from Eddie, Jimmy was able to achieve a small batch bourbon that is rich in taste and tradition, yet perfectly mixable. Russell's Reserve extends the tradition of excellence represented by the Austin Nichols Distillery and the Russell family name.

Russell's Reserve has smooth caramel and vanilla flavors balanced with mellow, warm notes of white pepper and orange peel. Rich in toffee and subtle spice notes, this full-bodied bourbon is a beautiful deep amber color with the long-lasting flavor of a truly remarkable bourbon.

Russell's Reserve will be available September 2005 for $28.

Sounds tasty. A fair price too. I'll have to check this one out soon. Thanks Bryan.
