Mount San Jacinto Yesterday

“We took the Palm Springs Tram yesterday and hiked/snowshoed from Long to Mount San Jacinto. The trail is hard-packed and icy all the way to the summit if you go via Wellman's Divide - crampons were helpful. On the way up we cut over from Round Valley toward Tamarck Valley and then up the hill - the snowshoes were really helpful off the trail. It was 20 degrees and windy on the summit at 1:30 pm and then it started to snow on the way back to Round Valley.

“I wish I could do more snowshoein. I found the zen the one and only time I did it.”

“The snow was less than a foot at the beginning of the trail and then it ranged from one foot to two feet with deeper drifts. You had to wander of the trail to get anything worth snowshoeing because the trail was hard-packed.

I just love going up there in the winter. It was snowing when we left and it looks like it snowed all day up there today.”
