Anyone have this yet?
I know a bunch have a Granite Gear Vapor Trail or Ozone, anyone tried out
"the lid" yet? I'm thinking of ordering one, but wanted to hear from "the real world" first!

Here it is if you haven't seen it.. http://www.backcountrygear.com/catalog/accessdetail.cfm/GG350

what's the big deal...
its a freakin lid to a lidless pack.

ok, heres a gear review for you.

It provides a cover to your lidless pack. weighs practically nothing and keeps water, leaves and dirt from possibly getting into your lidless pack.

Looks lid a lid to me. Doesn't look like it would hold much more than a trailmap and a power bar.

It's supposed to be more than a lid, but it doesn't say how many ci capacity it has, whether you can take it off & use it as a day-pack (does it have any kind of "belt"?, or how much it weighs.

I was actually looking for useful info, silly me posting such a request on TT.

Gotta love marketing. Offer a product for $20 standalone that wouldn't add more than a couple bucks to the retail value of the pack if included originally.

only serious gear...
gets serious attention. this is only a lid...sorry to be candid. It isn[t gonna save your life or anything like that and people like Opie and a few others would scoff at it cause it would weigh too much....LOL

Sorry Wanderer I am still alittle tired from driving bad from the ADKs.

But it is a lid. I never have seen one like that. I have seen pack lids before.

No shlt. What ever happened to the saying about no such thing as a stupid question?

OK, I think it looks great. Granted it's $20 and they should already come on the thing to begin with, but, it looks like something you'd glad ya bought. Even if it doesn't have any real compacity you can shove things under it like a jacket.

That's OK LtHiker, My comment was directed at Stik-up-his-ass, not you.

Stikky, you are being an a$$hole again. ;-)

I'm disapointed there is no info on the GG website. As it looks now, very little storage cap. Might be ok to help keep a sleeping pad or something on top.

I recently e-mailed Granite Gear about their top or lid. I thought it would be bigger with some capacity. I didn't want anything hugh or nothing like that but expected a little more than that. I guess you could use it for a jacket or something mentioned but like some said it should be included on the pack in the beginning. It rained into my Vapor Trail on Roan Mtn. and some of my stuff got wet. I just assumed that the roll down top would keep out the moisture, but it didn't. I guess either I'll get the lid and/or a silnylon pack cover to go with mine. I still love my pack, it is the most comfortable pack I have ever used, but it can always be improved upon.

Karo, when you emailed them did they send you any info? You mentioned that you expected it to be bigger so I'm guessing you have some info we don't... did they tell you it's capacity?

Thanks for any info!

When I talked to them, I just asked interested in a lid. They mentioned one would be coming out by First of 2005. No details. I would still probably get one, just to keep some of the rain out, even with a pack cover.

I've gotten used to strapping stuff on top and the lid would just get in the way. I'll stay lidless.

What a crappy picture and when you click on more photos and details you get the same one, lol.

Well, I don't even have a granite gear pack but in thinking about how this lid would attach to the pack you have it seems like you'd be able to figure out if it'll convert into a daypack. Is it going to clip onto existing clips or are you going to have to thread webbing through a buckle everytime you wanna put it on your pack? What's on the pack to attach it to? Does your hipbelt have velcro that aids in holding it to your pack that the lid can also attach to, with the help of alittle bit of webbing).
My P2 has a detachable lid that a webbing stap can clip to to create a hip bag or shoulder bag and the lid also attaches to the hipbelt, (removable from the pack).

I love the top lid on the P2. The buckle has a way of coming off though. It's a bit of a pain taking it on and off but it is the best fanny pack I've ever used.
