Veggie and Fruit JuicingView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 23 of 23 messages posted.
“anyone here own a veggie/fruit juicer. I know you are suppose to eat 5 veggies and 3 fruits a day. That is hard to do at least for me. If you have one can you tell a difference in the way you feel. Has it been worth the investment.” 8:42:51 AM 12/06/04 “I'd rather just eat the fruits and veggies then bother with that. You get more of the fiber eatting it then juicing it.” 8:43:59 AM 12/06/04 “I have something like a veggie juicer, I like to call it V8.” 8:44:28 AM 12/06/04 “Bison, the hot & spicy V8 is the best. problem about store bought juices is all the other stuff that is in it Spirit, from what I have been reading you actually get more from fiber, vitamins, etc when you juice the item than by eating it. You put it in the juicer whole and grind it all up into juice. No slicing, peeling, coring etc.” 8:49:15 AM 12/06/04 “i juiced about every day for 6 months about a year or so ago. the main reason i've heard that juicing is better than drinking even organic, 100% juice in a bottle from the store, is that there are massive amounts of antioxidants in the freshly-juiced variety. i can't really say i noticed a difference in how i felt, however.” 8:53:58 AM 12/06/04 “lyra, how did it taste. The thought of a cucumber/yellow squash/tomato drink just doesn't sound that good...lol I bet the ones made with fruit tasted great and was pretty sweet” 9:04:11 AM 12/06/04 “i thought it tasted pretty good! what i always made was a combo of carrots, apples, beets, and kale, with an occasional addition thrown in. if you mix some "icky" veggies with just the juice of one apple, it's a big improvement in taste. oh yeah, and one good thing about juicing in comparison to just eating fruits & veggies is that you can "eat" a lot of veggies that you would never eat raw, or eat at all. (like who would ever eat a whole raw beet or 6 raw carrots or some raw garlic cloves?)” 9:07:46 AM 12/06/04 “I rather eat my veggies and fruit, but I always ate a lot of vegetables. hmm, only reason why you may get more fiber by juicing is because you'll drink more then u would actually eat. I rather have the full feeling from eating [chewing my food] instead of drinking it though.” 9:07:53 AM 12/06/04 “For some reason I just had the urge for an onion and apple smoothy.” 9:30:42 AM 12/06/04 “bbw-- yikes that sounds nasty! I've carrot & apple juices mixed with others... it tastes great! The thing I don't like is that the process is rather messy and you need LOTS of fruits & veggies to get only a glass or 2 of juice... I prefer to eat my veggies whole, even though juice is good as well....” 9:37:22 AM 12/06/04 “Anyone remember the old In Living Color skit with Jim Carey? "IT'S THE JUICE WEASLE!!!"” 9:39:51 AM 12/06/04 “I was thinking about the Fish-O-Matic that SNL made so famous when I first started reading about juicing” 9:43:12 AM 12/06/04 “yeah, those are the things i didn't like about it, pink! when i was doing it, i didn't really think about juicing instead of eating fruit & veggies...it was more like an addition. fish-o-matic, sounds scrumptious!” 9:46:23 AM 12/06/04 “I have a very nice juicer. Juicing whole tangerines (rind and all) was the basis for my *award winning* Salmon teriyaki at Ithaca! lyra gets juiced every day, go figure! :~p” 10:02:02 AM 12/06/04 “argh! :-)” 11:23:24 AM 12/06/04 “i can't really say i noticed a difference in how i felt, however.” lyra Then why Juice??????????” 11:32:19 AM 12/06/04 “antioxidants are cancer-fighting. i'm not like expecting to get cancer anytime soon or anything, but ya never know! and i don't think people necessarily feel bad when cancer first starts.” 11:35:03 AM 12/06/04 “I may look on ebay and see what they cost. I know there expensive if you buy them at the store.” 12:20:50 PM 12/06/04 “They are expensive, but they are alot of fun!!!! They're actually alot more fun to push the fruit and veggies thru and watch them shred than actually drinking the stuff!” 12:28:11 PM 12/06/04 carrot juice is the reason i got one “and that is mostly what i use it for also quick lemonade...juice an apple and a half a lemon...the apple sweetens the lemon and it is really good. if you are going to juice, go all the way and get a Vitamixer brand...it juices the entire fruit. Plus you can heat it up for soup right in the machine...plus knead bread plus throw frozen fruit in there for icecream/frozen smoothies without the cream ...frozen bananas come out creamy good! a lot of juicers extract juice and then you are left with a lot of pulp/fiber....yah, you can make muffins with that,,,but i would rather be drinking/eating it....... sometimes i practice laziness and just eat the fruit/veggies raw over the sink...no clean up involved...” 5:09:59 PM 12/06/04 “Om-- that's the kind I have (The one that leaves a lot of pulp & fiber.) It was fun the 1st time I used it, but eventually, everything got really old-- It's not like you can juice and then run out the door... (unless you like rubbing your fingers raw while cleaning the juicer basket!) I think I've seen the Vitamixer one at Costco-- bit it is REALLY pricey! The only apprehension I would have with juicing is that unless you are certain that the fruits & veggies are not sprayed with pesticides, you should probably be careful about what you juice! Organic veggies/fruit are way more expensive, so It makes more sense to just eat them rather than juice them...” 5:16:51 PM 12/06/04 5 veggies and 3 fruits a day “Don't have time to read all this, sorry. Ewker - the powers that be, especially supermarkets, want you to think that and I believ purposely mislead people. However, it's 3-5 servings/day As an example, today's Red Delicious Apple is probably 2-2.5 servings of fruit. 3-5 servings is no big deal.” 12:12:26 PM 12/07/04 “bm, your right I think I did screw up the amounts per day. last edited: 12/07/04 12:20:40 PM” 12:18:30 PM 12/07/04
