Hehe, I posted the URL to the discussion board. The URL to the tent is:

5+ pounds for an odd shaped floor plan.
The fly has no vents.

Going to be a 'hot' tent.

Yeah, but it says 4 pounds 8 oz and probably would be less if you didn't pack the bag and instructions etc.

And all the guy lines no one ever uses and about half the stakes ya don't need. Hell, sometimes I leave the poles at home. I don't recomend it though. The weight savings isn't worth it. LOL!

A big DUH! on both points. Of course I'm talkin' out my ass and of course ya don't go by the catalog weight. What'dya think, we're a bunch of non backpackers here? [ducking from about half of TT throwing stuff at me]

Backpackinglight.com says min weight per their scale (which I trust) is 4.5 lbs.

http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/double_wall_tents_review_summary.html - They review a ton of tents in this article.

They define minimum weight as:

This weight is identical to the Manufacturer Minimum but with 0.25 ounce titanium stakes and 0.004 oz/ft Aircore 1 Spectra guy lines replacing the minimum number of stakes and stock guy line. The purpose of this weight is to eliminate the variable of stake and guy line weights as well as showing the lightest weight possible required to erect the shelter.

Sierra Designs says this is:

Total weight of the tent body, fly and poles (does not include the stakes). This is the tents minimal weight.

You are grasping at straws Jimmy san. ;-)

My main complant about this tent is the odd floor shape and lack of vents in the fly.
It might make a good one person tent but with only one exit, better designs are out there.

By the way, that steepadcheap stuff shows up all the time for sale... some guy on bpl is trying to sell a watch for 100 bucks that was sold there for 53 a few days ago that a "friend" gave him for his birthday...

The stuff pops up on ebay too. I guess it is fair... supply and demand or something like that... but it just is something to note.

Here is the DEAL of the Century....five years or so ago I went bananas and got a high tech Chase Durer watch....last September the Alarm Pin pops out....take it to the Jeweler...they send it off...three weeks later I get this response...$400 to repair or $250 to replace....BITE ME.
SO I get the damaged watch...toss it in the drawer and that was that. Last Week i get a letter from the Jeweler that I have a "REPAIR" for pickup./..

Apparently Chase sent me a NEW WATCH ..with a repair charge of $56.00....KILLER...so will I take a 250 watch for 56...heck yes...that is a KILLER DEAL>

ditch the boots and go for some trail runners...i used to be devoted to boots but once i tried trail runners i fell in love...boots aren't really necessary unless you have a real heavy pack, have weak ankles or are hiking in real wet/muddy conditions

I l-o-v-e LOVE my Vasque boots. I have the Sundowner Summit GTX boots and they are the only boots I ever purchased that worked great out of the box. I took them to the Porkies basically new expecting blisters and other pains but hiked 21 miles the second day without so much as a single hot spot. I am very pleased with them. My feet stayed totally dry despite the wet generally sloggy conditions and they felt great even after a long day of hiking.

I have done the trail runner thing. It's OK. I guess it's a personal thing.

Thrifty..Jimmy, THANKS. Thrifty question how heavy a load can you carry with the runners? I am pretty much down to mid 30# in weight. But there are occasions when I have a bit more weight on me.

that's about were i am with my weight too...really, like previous posts is just a personal preference...try carrying a pack for a day hike just wearing running shoes...if it's enough support for ya you'll probably like trail runners...from what i hear almost everyone on the AT wears them now...i'm barefoot most of the time so i don't need any extra cushion but some, if not most, have just as much cushion as boots

I’m a sucker for containers. Normally as my water bladders and bottles wear out I just use the 1 lt soda bottles. I saw this stuff called Smart Water at the store and loved the bottle. It’s the regular plastic but the bottom is flat so it won’t fall over too easy. I got one bottle that is like 1.5 lt and one that is 1 lt but is thinner and taller which would be good for side pockets. It’s about $1.99 for the big bottle and $1.65 for the smaller. It’s this high tech water that’s supposed to be good for ya but I don’t care about the water. I just wanted the bottles.

You know you are a lightweight backpacker......
if you buy food just for the container it's in.

Usually before a hike, I'll buy a GatorAde in one of their twist top squeeze bottles and take that along.
Makes a great water bottle after the GatorAde is gone.

I can see flattening the bottom of the bottle since it isn't under pressure from fizz. Probably less expensive to make the bottle with a flat bottom.

Good "do more with less" find.

Found these at my local REI the other day and picked up a couple. I have used thicker and larger ones when canoeing and loved them. These come in several different sizes and colors, and are lightweight. I picked one up to stuff my tent in thinking that if the tent fly were wet in the morning, stuffing it in a bag like this might keep everything else dry. They'd be great for anyone who wants to keep more important things dry.

wolfeyes, I use those drysacks now for almost 2 years. Just upgraded to the much lighter version a couple month ago. Keeps my stuff dry and hey, I even use one for a foodbag. I don't want to jinx it but I didn't have any rodents in my food yet.

I just finished stuffing my tent in one, and it fits pretty good. I like them so far. Easier to close then those straps on the compression sacks.

Make sure you throw that pee bottle down in your sack by your feet to warm 'em up a little. Just make sure the seal is good.

I found some Off Deep Woods Towlettes at Dicks. (I would post a picture but I don't know how and I am too lazy to figure it out.) The towlettes packages are lightweight and a good alternative to carrying more than you need, such as a bottle or can of repellent. Those bottles always seem to leak too.

Not sure if I posted this, but Walgreens sells small boxes of dehydrated cranberries and other fruit for 2 for a buck. The Walgreens brand of stadium peanuts are good too. I like to make my own trail mix.

I think they had apricots and blueberries too.
