I need new feet
So, some of you may realize I have been off work and off my feet for five weeks now with tendonitis or a torn tendon in my left foot. I haven't gotten the results of the MRI I had Friday morning yet but it's very possible I'll be having some surgury on the left foot soon as it's not improving too much.
I went to the Dr's this morning for a check up on that and had him take a peek at my right foot too as an ulcer I had this summer is coming back and bothering me. Turns out it's back with a vengence and is caused by the bone in my little toe rubbing (I broke this toe last May and never went to the Dr's for it, it healed all crooked). I have to have surgery on that foot too now. The bone has to be "rasped down" so it won't rub anymore. I'm all mopey because I can't walk, run, stand or play. It's not permanent but it's really hard to keep it all in perspective and I'm getting downright depressed about it all.
I've been waiting for three years to start school for massage therapy and it's a distinct possibility I'll have to wait until September instead of February to start now as I won't be able to stand. =(

I thought you said birch was good with tools? Have him rasp that thing right down. I bet it won't hurt much.

Seriously though, sorry about your foot problems. It's terrible to love something and not be able to do it because the part of your body you most depend on constantly lets you down.

Hey, was that TMI?

Bummer.
I suggest cute kid therapy.

Grab Abby and snuggle in a comfy chair with a snack and a blanket and watch a kiddie movie, I suggest Snow White or Lilo and Stitch. (works for Laurel)

Bit they have pills that will fix your little problem right up nowadays.

I know. Trying to remember how fortunate I am to have insurance and family that can take up the slack. I'm just tired of being broken. It's such a minor injury in reality but it's really made a significant change in my life and I'm impatient for it to be better and be back to normal, and then throw in the ulcer thing and it's just down right not fair, lol. Wanna sit on my lap at the bar tonight when I get off work? We can both talk about broken body parts and you won't have to stand. I'll buy.

I hope you have checked out your surgeon very carefully.

When I met my wife she was recovering from bunion surgery where they did that rasping deal. The #&%!$er did a crummy job and her feet have never fully recovered.

Anyhoo, you have my sympathy.

Oh, Sass, that sucks! Hang in there, it might not be as bad as it looks on the surface (the situation in general). You don't have all the test results back, so thinks might change.

But go ahead and whine in the meantime, everyone deserves to once in a while.

Yeah, I went to a podiatrist for a problem (I couldn't walk without limping) and after just looking at me stand, he said I needed to have both big toe joints replaced. I'd be off my feet for six weeks. I got a second opinion who sent me to have a custom orthotic made, and by the time the orthotic wore out (a year) I was fine.

I agree, 2nd opinions with foot surgery are always a good idea. For a lot of reasons, vascularity being one of them, they're tough to heal and complications are not uncommon. Hang in there, everything is temporary: good times and bad.

Actually Violin, I haven't been refered to a surgeon yet. The MRI results need to be seen first. My podiatrist has already told me he won't do either surgery but will send me to a specialist.
Wolfeyes, Get off work on time and I'll be there. I feel like drowning my sorrows in good company. =)

I have orthotics too, for my big toe joint. I just need new feet. It was all those damn fifty pound packs (and maybe the extra 45 pounds of body mass) I carried!

You can have my sympathy for sure. I was laid up with a broken leg two years ago while you folks hiked the Canyon Rim Trail, and I was less than happy over that. It helps to keep a perspective on things. Injuries do happen to us, and it looks like it's now your turn in the hopper, just as it was mine.

While I'm ambulatory right now, I'm still having leg problems and have gotten so out of shape it is incredible. Trying to get back into shape is not easy at this point in life. But it's the hand I've been dealt, so I guess I have to play it.

I guess in my case, having a different doctor for each leg does provide a certain bragging point.

Cheer up Sass. This, too, shall pass. The woods will still be there, and it will be extra special to get back.

Sass-- my sympathy to your poor feet!

I broke my foot in 1990 and was really depressed because for a while I couldn't even reach to the bottom drawer of my dresser--I felt like such an invalid (and this is while I was in college AND working as a hall staff for 4 residence halls!

Try to keep optimistic-- hopefully, you will be back on your feet and well again soon!

Think long term
Sass --

It sucks about your feet .. .

but think long term. After you get them repaired and healed . . you can go to school. Try to get a speciality in deep tissue and sports massage . . .its my favorite.

I really think you need to focus outside of your own situation here, and start thinking about me.

How can Lee benefit from this situation? that is really where your efforts should be focused.

Once you're in the free trial/intership period of your massage training, let me know. You can come east with your table.

I am very pysched for me.

(good luck with your feet. sorry you are laid up).

=) For the most part you guys are really encouraging and have made me smile again. Thank you.

Lee, that's actually my plan. Who knows though, after taking classes I might change my mind. There's a therapist who shares my podiatrist's office space who does tongue massage. (ewww)

Don't distract me!!!
BOy ....I had one more thing to add and then you mention tongue massage!!

1. I am very glad you are thinking that far ahead. I can give you directions on where to find me when the time comes.

2. Beware of Wolfeyes this evening. I am not concerned in the least about her being in a vulnerable state and trying to seduce you . .that could only be a good thing.

I am however, concerned that in her current state she might run on and on about her own situation at length . .blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda . . .and lose focus on the what's important . . .ME.

Remember stay focused on me, and what my needs are, and you will move right through this spell with your feet.

One more question:

Is that a massage WITH the tongue or OF the tongue???
lee

Of the tongue, with the fingers.

Really, my thoughts are going towards you not havng to go through surgery. Only problem is I know you've already tried several alternatives. Hang in there.

In the meantime, thanks for your spot at the Chill this weekend!

Full of it (advice) today
Hmmmm, here's a few suggestions;

It could be worse, it could be opean heart surgery?

Think about another part of your body and not your feet.

Send yourself an email greeting card.

Tell birch you need "servicing"

Use that credit card for online shopping!!!

Think about what a blessing it really is to have feet. We'd be a bunch of wacky hikers with flippers!

Rugby tip:

When you break a toe or finger, tape it to the one next to it with black electrician's tape. After a few breaks it will take the form of the other digit, but you won't have problems qwith it sticking out and rubbing on things.

Stikmon and Bobo, I know what a whiner I am and how fortunate I am to even have feet, instead of flippers, to hurt. I just got a call from my mom and learned that my gramma fell on Friday and broke her pelvis. She's eighty eight. She's in alot of pain and she probably won't get better. I will. Maybe this injury will give me the opportunity to get out to Kansas to see her very soon.

Dhutch, you have no idea how much it hurt to give that spot up. Good luck Saturday and run Birch into the ground! =)

Sass - Go ahead and whine here...better than doing it at home anyway.

Consider getting some orthodics for your shoes while you are waiting for all the doctor/MRI/surgery/insurance crap to happen.

My wife is coming out of 2 years of foot & knee problems. At one point she got so tired of the waiting BS that she just went and got othrodics on her own. She got inserts and she also tried several different brands of orthodic shoes. Admittedly we spent hundreds of dollars on all that, but it was worth it.
