It seems that the only time we get a sitter and go out these days are for our little group supper club and the like. It's time to go out with just my wife and I. I'm planning on going here: http://www.birminghammenus.com/losangeles/ Any suggestions for other things to do other than dinner and a movie. I'm not a dancer, btw. last edited: 12/06/04 1:57:45 PM” 1:57:03 PM 12/06/04 “This time of year? Take a long drive through several neighborhoods, and look at Christmas lights.” 1:58:40 PM 12/06/04 “get a hotel room in a cheap motel, pretend like your back in high school and do it in the backseat of the car” 2:00:38 PM 12/06/04 “Go to the top of a parking structure and watch the sun set beyond the city. Then make out til the sun rises.” 2:01:09 PM 12/06/04 “When we lived in B'ham we used to try that. It seems that folks don't do alot of decorating there. The upscale neighborhoods in Tuscaloosa were great. We used to do that when we were in college.” 2:01:19 PM 12/06/04 “Go to the symphony or a jazz club.” 2:02:31 PM 12/06/04 “jazz club might be an idea. Last week I looked to see if there were any plays going now and there weren't.” 2:03:56 PM 12/06/04 “Or a play. If you can get rid of the kids for a night find a B & B some place you have never been and stay there overnight and explore.” 2:05:20 PM 12/06/04 “LOL, dayhiker you beat me to the "play" idea...but the B & B thing works great for us.” 2:06:20 PM 12/06/04 “WTF? Dayhiker is needing dating advice? I must have missed his posts on the "Divorce Sucks" thread.” 2:06:33 PM 12/06/04 “I still date my wife!... and only my wife!” 2:07:08 PM 12/06/04 “I tried to find a B&B up around the Savage Gulf area and had marginal luck.” 2:08:53 PM 12/06/04 “There's one in Monteagle, but I don't know if it's any good.” 2:10:43 PM 12/06/04 “It was a little pricy for what I want to spend this time of year. We're going to take a weekend in January and either go to Atlanta or possibly Boone, NC so I don't want to duplicate. This is going to be more of a simple night out without kids.” 2:14:01 PM 12/06/04 “dayhiker, you're a good man! The question is, is your wife open to new things??? If yes, take her away somewhere completely new for a few days to a week. If she's a homebody, do something you know she likes but add a little twist; a gift, maybe some flowers, some kind of surprise. We have a place that makes arrangements of chocolate covered fruit, it's always a hit! Does your wife work? If so, send her flowers for sure. I was told that other women in the office get extremely irritated when someone they work with gets flowers and they get none (kind of like the Queen Bee syndrome I guess you could call it!). If all else fails... follow Ewker's instructions! ;~]” 2:14:51 PM 12/06/04 “there is one in Beersheba Springs” 2:15:34 PM 12/06/04 “She's a stay at home mom, which is why it's really important for the occaisonal wine and dine.” 2:16:45 PM 12/06/04 “If you like latin food, do you like Latin music? If so, try checking out a Latin night club... lots of them offer FREE dance lessons for beginners (included in your cover charge)-- just enough for the 2 of you to have some fun.... Might be kind of sexy and add a few moves to your bed time rituals... (wink, wink, nudge, nudge.) If you don't want to dance, you can just sit and listen and people watch!” 2:17:43 PM 12/06/04 “Sign up for some dance lessons on the other thread.” 2:17:49 PM 12/06/04 “Take her out to Starbucks so she doesn't fall asleep on 'ya later!” 2:18:15 PM 12/06/04 “I'll look and see if there are any Latin clubs here? If not, then the Atlanta trip next month might be a good place for that.” 2:22:12 PM 12/06/04 A study date. “How 'bout a library date? You could each relax in the library some evening spending your time reading or studying. When the library closes, you could walk around a park holding hands. You might even find yourselves able to talk to each other, at ease and free from other distractions. It's a great way to get reacquainted and to re-examine your commitments to each other. Have a great date. PS - Fun does not have to be related to the amount of money spent. last edited: 12/06/04 2:36:43 PM” 2:28:38 PM 12/06/04 “Oh, a date with your wife. Ok, now that I understand the parameters......does she like hot wings by any chance?” 2:31:53 PM 12/06/04 “Stay-at-home mom with two small kids? Take her to a hotel. Let her get a good night's sleep. Then take her out.” 2:34:28 PM 12/06/04 “Only married guys would suggest taking a woman to a hotel "for a good night's sleep".” 2:37:17 PM 12/06/04 “We have hot wings and cold beer from time to time. Good stuff.” 2:37:21 PM 12/06/04 “Good point chili. We're looking for a date that dating folks would actually take.” 2:38:22 PM 12/06/04 “This is a backpacking site for goodness sake! Call in the grandparents and hit the trail for a weekender.” 2:39:07 PM 12/06/04 “Trust me, even if you get rid of the kids, just being in the house means she'll feel like she needs to do the dishes, wash clothes, clean the bathroom. The only way to end the cycle of madness is to remove her from the home environment altogether.” 2:39:58 PM 12/06/04 “is there a paint-your-own pottery place where you live? that could be fun.” 2:41:41 PM 12/06/04 “You've seen "Ghost" one too many times, lyra...” 2:43:30 PM 12/06/04 “ha! very funny. i said PAINT, not MAKE. and nowhere did i mention that troll Patrick Swayze! :-D” 2:47:05 PM 12/06/04 ““We have hot wings and cold beer from time to time. Good stuff.” dayhiker 2:37:21 PM 12/06/04 May I suggest the Huntsville Hooters?” 2:47:40 PM 12/06/04 “OK, so you've seen one too many episodes of "Blind Date"...lol....” 2:47:54 PM 12/06/04 Gorham's Bluff 2:50:11 PM 12/06/04 “now that could very well be.” 2:51:58 PM 12/06/04 This is.... “got to be either the funniest thing I have ever heard on this board...or the lamest... #1, its too damnable funny that you need suggestions from a bunch of internet people and #2, really sad that you need to ask advice from some of the most mentally ill people on the planet...remember...we meet people from the internet to backpack with and that just is the strangest thing going. DH...You slay me man...OMG,,,I'm laughing so hard, I blew snot in my coffee.” 2:52:15 PM 12/06/04 “Sitdown, stikmon. He needs advice from people who actually go on dates.” 2:53:46 PM 12/06/04 “Hey stikky, way to stomp on his thread. We could say similar things about a few things you've started threads about here. Now butt out, and let us talk about his date!” 2:54:10 PM 12/06/04 “Mmmmmm, snot coffee!” 2:54:53 PM 12/06/04 lol... “stomp on me day....go for it. way funny.” 3:06:55 PM 12/06/04 “With date suggestions like these it is no wonder TT has evolved into a lonely hearts club.” 3:09:32 PM 12/06/04 “We're definitely going to Gorhams Bluff at some point. We've been trying to find a way up there for a couple of years now, it just hasn't worked out yet. My hope was that I'd get suggestions of things I wouldn't think of, or would dismiss if I thought of them. Mission accomplished. Lots of great ideas here. Keep them coming.” 3:16:02 PM 12/06/04 Dinner Scavenger hunt... “Do Dinner, but with a twist, just go to a different restaurant for each course...Apetizers here, soup there, salad over there, desert somewhere else, and do restaurants that are ordinarily places you don't frequent... Variation: As a social endevor, envite a group of friends to do dinner, then have a different course at each couples house...” 3:28:49 PM 12/06/04 “Comedy Club. Everyone is in a good mood after that. Have a drink or two to talk. Great night.” 3:31:27 PM 12/06/04 Try Here... 3:51:47 PM 12/06/04 “If you go to Border's books, they have these little decks of cards "52 cheap dates", "52 fun things to do", "52 romantic dates", "52 party ideas" etc... They are kind of cute-- you could buy the deck and then pick a "date" out at random and then use a new one each time... They have fun things to do and it might be fun to just randomly try something new-- at the very least it might give you both some cute ideas!” 4:00:06 PM 12/06/04 “just get the book Sass talked about on another thread 101 nights of great sex or something like that.” 4:01:40 PM 12/06/04 “Supertroll beat me to it, but I was going to suggest just desert somewhere else. Hubby and I go to the bookstore and read all the good magazines for fun/relaxing sometimes, and they have desert there too if they have a cafe like mine do. If you are taking her to a nice place for dinner already, then to add on a good movie would really be perfect, maybe not different but it would be a really enjoyable evening.” 4:02:44 PM 12/06/04 “how about a "play date"? I mean, go to the places you first met and felt the spark-- if it's the local arcade, then grab a roll of quarters and play some skeeball or your favorite video games... :-) since you are down south, if it's warm enough, go to the local "gourmet" store, pack a picnic and go to a park--- play on the swing set, walk through the park, etc....not necessarily backpack, but take a walk--(less work that way!) You could make your own little "geocache" with a treasure map to some goodies along the way?! Have fun and propose to her using one of those big candy rings... :-)” 4:11:40 PM 12/06/04
