Let New Jersey do as they please, just be sure and keep all the New Jersey murderers in New Jersey. The State is run by the Mob anyway.

Worry about your own state. I'm glad mine has taken a step toward civilization.

Can you imagine the horror of being improperly convicted to death?

"Can you imagine the horror of being improperly convicted to death?”
Reverend Truth V Wicked

That would indeed be horrible... but I'm still waiting for someone to tell me the name of somone improperly executed?

Our system has major flaws, I'm not defending it at all, and I'm open to hearing why we shouldn't execute people who we know for certain are guilty of commiting heinous crimes such as the man referred to in this thread initially who raped / murdered a little girl.

Maybe that's what we should be debating here... not whether or not we should have a death penalty, but how we determine the fact that "we know for certain" someone is guilty!

Isn't the probability of an innocent being executed about the same as an unaborted child turning into a killer?

Sorry about that whole slavery buttinski, SS. I know you folks are still sore about that.

Wanderer, I'm pretty sure you know that no one can give you that name and that you also know that prosecutors across the country have fiercely resisted making physical evidence available for post-execution DNA testing. I wonder why?

According to the Innocence Project, there have been 209 post-conviction DNA exonerations in the US. 15 of those 209 spent time on death row. In January 2000, Illinois Governor George Ryan (R) put a hold on executions after 13 prisoners on death row had their convictions overturned (the state had only executed 12 people since 1977).

It appears reasonable to assume that at least one innocent person has been murdered by the State. I think that's pretty #&%!$ing tragic.

Sometimes people make false confessions. Sometimes people bear false witness.

I support life without parole and don't mind spending a few bucks to make sure that innocent blood is not on my hands for tolerating a flawed system that could (and almost certainly has) lead to State sponsored murder of innocents.

V, how do you feel about abortion?

I find it ironic that the people who are against the death penalty for convicted murders are in favor of abortion for innocent babys. (And vice versa),

Don't know about experience here...but IMHO here is the problem.

LIFERS really don't give a rats ass. I have seen them assault other prisoners, (short timers) and I have seen they truly don't fear crap.

So what do you do....?

Well I know there are mistakes, and the legal system is flawed, but if you show me a better one I will go with it. The fact is there are VERY guilty people. Years ago we had a kid involved in the execution of a police officer. Since none of the three scumbags would implilcate the others they all got 15 years and walked in less than 10. Luckily the little S'bag tried it again,,,...one of our detectives made a perfect three shot to the chest...

Vile I have heard the "look they were innocent" crap used in a mass attempt to cover up the fact that this happens in a MINISCULE number of cases where there is good hard evidence.

As for Life without Parole, we had a kid who was sent up for 3 years for a minor incident. He was raped repeatedly by the lifers...and the worst are the young one who really know there is nothing you can do.

I suggest we consider the Quaker system. Once they are convicted (say 3 times of violent actions YOU ARE OUT) they are placed in a 10x10 cell with a small garden toilet, table, and bookshelf. They may request the "religious or philosophical books of their choice" but no phone, no TV no contact with the outside world. Cut off, forever. Fed three times a day. but other than that...NOTHING, not a sound.

But ...here is the kicker...on the top shelf of the book case is a box with two cyanide tablets...they can take em whenever they want.

Gambino Family Busted In Largest Mafia Sting In 20 Years

By Jonathan Dienst, Joseph Valiquette and Alice McQuillan

NEW YORK -- The entire hierarchy of the Gambino organized crime family was rounded up Thursday morning in what law enforcement officials are calling the biggest mafia bust in more than 20 years, WNBC.com has learned.

Dozens of reputed members of the Gambino crime family were charged with murders, drug trafficking, robberies, extortion, and other crimes dating back to the 1970s, authorities said Thursday.

Some 62 people were being sought or were in custody in the New York area.

Investigators said powerful capos and dozens of its members and associates are being arrested Thursday morning by teams of federal, state and local investigators........more.......

Right! Bobby 'Bacpac' Gorgonzola*, so nicknamed because of his propensity towards dismembering his victims and arranging them methodically in a large backpack.

*not to be confused with Luigi "Lite-weight' Lorenzo. He performs a similar ritual, but has a back problem and likes to travel light. So, he dehydrates most of his vic's vital organs...

Raids captured almost 60 alleged Gambino made men and associates, including the family's acting boss, John "Jackie the Nose" D'Amico. However, powerful capo Nicky "Little Nick" Corrozo avoided the dragnet and is now a fugitive, authorities said.

Among those also caught: underboss Domenico "Italian Dom" Cefalo, consigliere Joseph "Jo Jo" Corozzo, Gotti Sr.'s brother Vincent Gotti, nephew Richard Gotti and soldier Charles Carneglia, accused of killing 26-year-old court officer Albert Gelb and security guard Jose Delgado-Rivera, authorities said.

Most of those names are really secretive.

Oh, and someone tell that Mississippi whack-job (pun intended) that the indictments were handed down by Andrew Cuomo, NYS attorney general. The arrests have nothing to do with the state of New Jersey...

WAHAHAHAHA

That is, New Jerseyans pay some of the country's highest taxes to get one of the country's worst governments.

In a new study, Governing magazine ranks Jersey the nation's third-worst-managed state. The problem isn't just the shambles that its finances are in, but also its lack of investment in infrastructure, its poor employee training and development, and a failure to apply technology and data to manage public services well.
