LMAO, Twiggy!

No more whiny "No more (fill in blank)more hiking" threads that include photos of mountains where the valleys possibly remind you of the cleavage of some ex-girlfriend you'll never have.... cuz your indoors, sitting at your computer, whining about hiking too much.

LOL! Hey, Comrade Earthinski, take a hike. Those mountain photos are getting you too hot and bothered, me thinks!!

LOL... yeah Bison, I bet he has an ex-girlfriend.

BUT... I am talking about some girlfriend he'll never have cuz he does too many of these "Less/more" threads... and posts that one mountain photo. How can a girl compete with that cleavage and such nice valleys? LOL!

Anyway, if he never has this future girlfriend, he'll never have her as an ex-girlfriend either.

I dunno, it made sense to me. :-) But Shakespeare I'm not. I'd write a sonnet to that mountain if I were......... LOL! ;-P

guess it's easier to be an ass to someone if you never expect to see them in person.

I'm not talking about personalities, I'm talking numbers. Let's face it, a trip with 20 nice people still sucks. I have had a hard time finding trips where there won't be any drugs either. So I rarely do them any more.

I normally post trips with crazy miles, crazy elevation gains, and on rough trails. That generally keeps the numbers down.

I'll post as many backpacking related threads as I want. I don't care how much of a whiner I sound like! This is a backpacking forum! Backpacking topics should take center stage. New comers are turned away because all the stupid threads about unrelated BS dominating the board. That hurts Matt's business. Unrelated topics should be at the bottom and backpacking topics at the top!

:-) LOL, Gremlin, ya got it.

ENS, have some fun, dude. You're reminding me of Louis Anderson at a comedy show in La Crosse, Wi. He said how he was from the area, which sits right on the Mississippi, gorgeous tall rocky bluffs and all... and how much he missed it, living in LA or whatever the heck city he lives in.

He said he'd be in a bar, drinking... and would get all sentimental about it and then would cry in his beer, sobbing, as he looked across the river, "The bluffs... the bluffs!" He loved the bluffs.

It was funny as hell... but maybe ya had to be there. Your mountain reminds me of that. Maybe you're sitting there posting it with a smile, maybe you're bawling, I dunno. But I think of Louis Anderson and "The bluffs... the bluffs!" And I laugh and poke fun.

it still makes me smile.. how many threads has the mountain been on??

I'm really into the Adirondacks right now. I still love Mt. Mitchell, it's the mountain that got me into backpacking. I've backpacked on the Black Mountain Crest trail 5 times now. The Crest Trail is difficult, there is no doubt about that. It's a different kind of difficult than what is presented in the Adirondacks. I'm not going to say one is harder than the other. They're apples and oranges. They're both awesome and I love hiking in both regions.

Right now I am interested in the Adirondacks and the Whites more so than the Southern High mountains because the peaks are more alpine than those in the south. Mt. Mitchell would have to be atleast 700 (7500 feet) higher to reach tree line where as the Adirondacks reach treeline around 4500 and the same with the Whites.

I enjoy hiking all mountains and as much as they are the same, they are different.

that sounds like a sweet trip! Alaska in 2005 isn't in the cards for me though. I do plan on going west and climbing Borah Peak in July. The rest of the year will be spent backpacking in the Adirondacks, Whites, Catskills, West Virginia, PA and VA. I hope to get one trip in down in North Carolina to bag some sixers and a trip to Maine to climb Katahdin.

Nigal your opinion on TT trips wouldn't have anything to do with the first Mt Rogers episode where you got lost and everyone had a laugh at your expense now would it? I didn't go on that one but I do remember the trip reports.

"Nigal your opinion on TT trips wouldn't have anything to do with the first Mt Rogers episode where you got lost and everyone had a laugh at your expense now would it? I didn't go on that one but I do remember the trip reports.”

You mean the Flat My Ass trip on the Chatooga. Me, get offended for being laughed at? LOL! I’m the type that takes a dive down a flight of stairs and is disappointed no one was there to see it. I’m never upset when people goof on me. That was an awesome trip. My main problem with group trips is when too people go I MEET a lot of new people but I don’t get to KNOW them. I often worry that I’m spending too much time talking to one person and not enough with someone else. It seems the more people that go the less focus there is on hiking. I’ve seen trips start out as backpacking trips and degrade completely down to camping a few miles in and partying. I’m also against large groups simply because in most places there are group limits. I mean, who likes setting up camp at a designated are or the only good spot around and have a group of 20 walk in and set up?

The other big problem is the drug use. I used to be easy going about it and ya know, whatever you do is ok with me. But in the past few years I’ve been on hikes where people wake and bake, and smoke at every rest stop. The last drug hike I went on there were a few times where the safety of the entire group could have been put at risk because of the smoking. It used to be fine around the fire but I don’t even want anything to do with it now. I know, I know, I’m intolerant.

I do alot of lurking because I don't very often have anything worthwhile to say.I kinda backed off a couple of years ago when the Evo vs. Creation thread got me really ticked off. I got so upset at one person in particular and I really shouldn't have. I later met this person on a really big TT hike (19 people) and I found out that this Dude was really cool. I haven't had the opportunity to hike with him since but would welcome the chance to hike with him again. I love TT hikes... the ones that are ball busters as well as the ones that turn into campouts!
