WHY ENERTIA FOODS ROCK!

I like these for breakfast. The waters always nice and cold in the morning, takes 4 minutes, no clean up, and lets face it, who doesn't like all that sugar with a couple cups of coffee. ZIPITYDOODA!!

I always just cut the top off the pouch. My cook pot is just the right size to hold the 'bowl' for eating.”

I can't claim credit for the idea, but someone suggested using a McFlurry spoon from MacDonald's for the Enertia meals.”

““Alot of those things have to sit and rehydrate, with multiple cooking steps, and they don't come in a conveinent cook and eat in pouch packaging (although they now have an extra "cozy" that they'll sell ya to cook in pouch). Backpacking consumers should expect more.

Just curious Bison, do you always write & critisize things you know nothing about, or, is this a first-time?

Seriously, I've been an Enertia fan for a LOOONNNG time, but if there's something beter then I want to know about it. I'm in the (very) early meal-planning stages for my big hike this summer, I like to try everything during weekend hike before I commit to taking it on a week-long, or longer, trek.

SO... why don't you post your MaryJane site, along with your favorite meals? I'd like to try alternatives to Enertia, I don't really have my head in the sand, I just haven't found anything nearly as good!”

“Enertia meals are just as easy as the mountain house and mary jane meals. It's really the same principle. The only difference is you have to mix in the flavoring (takes 30 seconds). Boil water, and let sit for 7 minutes. That is really consisten with both Mountain House and Mary Jane. I know Mary Jane meals taste pretty good but Mountain House sucks compared to Enertia Meals. I do like Mountain House Spaghetti though.”

also, bethany will sell you those bags....i buy them and repackage the big fantastic foods cups of noodles and soups....works out much better and packs much flatter (and lighter)....”

I checked out their website and their prices are as good or better than my employee discounted Mountain House grub, so I'll give them a try. “Allegheny Alfredo Buck and add some tuna fish! You can also add the tuna to the mac'n cheese. I wouldn't recommend adding tuna to the spaghetti. LThiker was adding crab meat, to the alfredo. That sounds pretty good too. The enertia meals are $3 around here, seems like everything else is $6.”

“I emailed enertia yesterday with one complaint about their product. I mentioned to them that ther sauce for the switchback spaghetti was like a brick and hard to breakup much less dissolve.

I received an email back from them today offering to replace that meal. I refused because even though the sauce didn't dissolve all the way it was still good.
BTW they did tell me they were going to have a new and improved sauce in 2005 for the spag.


Bison, you say you have seen people sit around and wait on the enertia meals before they could eat them. I know of very few meals that you pour boling water in and eat right then. I admit I haven't tried the MaryJanes but then again I had never heard of them either.
I have tried other brands but keep coming back to enertia.”

I have to admit, Mary Jane is yummy and is easy to prepare, but not near as much of a selection that Enertia has. At least thats how it is at my REI.

Some of the Enertia meals do take long to prepare cause you gotta hydrate the beans, but it sure is yummy and sastisfying once you eat. I dont mind the wait.”

“Yeah, They don't carry alot of Mary Jane's at most REI's, but if you go to the website there is a huge selection. The REI at SLC had a big selection though so I stocked up when I was out there.”

“I like crab meet in my Enertia alfredo. It comes in foil packs now. Very convenient. And I love the little bit of time (which I've never really noticed being longer than anyone elses, btw) sitting around in a little community with everyone cooking, chatting and peeking over to see what others are cooking.”

“I like the ground beef (Mexican style) in the foil pouch. I also like to put smoked oysters in 4 cheese mashed potatoes. I will still bring the oysters in the aluminum can because it burns up in no time. It is also a lot cheaper than the foil pouch.”

“My favorite mashed potato dish is to mix in parsly and a pack of the powdered alfrado sauce. It's KILLER!”
