WHY ENERTIA FOODS ROCK!View Messages““The pack that Enertia meals come in is not the best for eating straight out of, but it can be accomplished. I need to order one of those sampler packs.” bitpusher 12:19:54 PM 12/09/04 ignore this user A long handled spoon helps a lot.” 12:21:38 PM 12/09/04 “"specially the cheesecakes :-D” I like these for breakfast. The waters always nice and cold in the morning, takes 4 minutes, no clean up, and lets face it, who doesn't like all that sugar with a couple cups of coffee. ZIPITYDOODA!! “The pack that Enertia meals come in is not the best for eating straight out of, but it can be accomplished." I always just cut the top off the pouch. My cook pot is just the right size to hold the 'bowl' for eating.” 12:22:39 PM 12/09/04 “D - I believe that woulda been Nigal...you know the guy that gets to spend 72 hrs with ME!!! lol And beer or no beer makes no difference to me.....I'm still glad to be on the team......yes EVEN with you, Nigal :p~~” 1:37:41 PM 12/09/04 “"And beer or no beer makes no difference to me....." Sweet! I knew sooner or later you'd say something like this! You drive...I'll drink!” 1:40:43 PM 12/09/04 “A long handled spoon helps a lot. - lumberzac I can't claim credit for the idea, but someone suggested using a McFlurry spoon from MacDonald's for the Enertia meals.” 3:13:16 PM 12/09/04 “Oh, NOW we see the real reason the bags are so long and thin...ENERTIA IS IN LEAGUE WITH MCDONALD'S!!!!!!!!” 3:14:10 PM 12/09/04 “Thats ok, if I drive you're gonna WANNA drink!!” 3:16:43 PM 12/09/04 ““Alot of those things have to sit and rehydrate, with multiple cooking steps, and they don't come in a conveinent cook and eat in pouch packaging (although they now have an extra "cozy" that they'll sell ya to cook in pouch). Backpacking consumers should expect more. last edited: 12/09/04 11:55:10 AM” Just curious Bison, do you always write & critisize things you know nothing about, or, is this a first-time? Seriously, I've been an Enertia fan for a LOOONNNG time, but if there's something beter then I want to know about it. I'm in the (very) early meal-planning stages for my big hike this summer, I like to try everything during weekend hike before I commit to taking it on a week-long, or longer, trek. SO... why don't you post your MaryJane site, along with your favorite meals? I'd like to try alternatives to Enertia, I don't really have my head in the sand, I just haven't found anything nearly as good!” 3:32:57 PM 12/09/04 Bison “Enertia meals are just as easy as the mountain house and mary jane meals. It's really the same principle. The only difference is you have to mix in the flavoring (takes 30 seconds). Boil water, and let sit for 7 minutes. That is really consisten with both Mountain House and Mary Jane. I know Mary Jane meals taste pretty good but Mountain House sucks compared to Enertia Meals. I do like Mountain House Spaghetti though.” 6:14:17 PM 12/09/04 enertia bags.... “i just cut em down so that they are the right size to fit my spork into.... also, bethany will sell you those bags....i buy them and repackage the big fantastic foods cups of noodles and soups....works out much better and packs much flatter (and lighter)....” 7:37:26 PM 12/09/04 “Oh I'm sorry Wanderer and ENS all those times I've sat there and watched all the prep time people spent on their Enertia meals must have been just fantasies. ENS there are a few Enertia meals that can be done like that. Not the whole line. Jeez. last edited: 12/09/04 9:11:38 PM” 9:09:50 PM 12/09/04 lol “the spaghetti, mac n' cheese and alfredo were easy. adding the tuna to the alfredo was pretty good too!” 9:15:17 PM 12/09/04 “Unfortunately I see a lot of Enertia meals in my future, Uggghhh.” 9:23:36 PM 12/09/04 “I have not tried these Enertia meal jobbers. I just figgered if we don't sell them at REI, they don't exist. I checked out their website and their prices are as good or better than my employee discounted Mountain House grub, so I'll give them a try. If my dogs dig up my poop the next day, then I will know for sure it's good stuff. If I hurl, barf, or spew, then I'm comin' after bitpusher. I know where he lives. I'll put some real challenge into his eco races. I'm willing to fall on my sword for this one, you bethca. It better be good.” 9:25:46 PM 12/09/04 “Allegheny Alfredo Buck and add some tuna fish! You can also add the tuna to the mac'n cheese. I wouldn't recommend adding tuna to the spaghetti. LThiker was adding crab meat, to the alfredo. That sounds pretty good too. The enertia meals are $3 around here, seems like everything else is $6.” 9:35:36 PM 12/09/04 “An MRE spoon is the best for Enertia's. Or any packaged meal for that matter.” 9:36:08 PM 12/09/04 “let sirpete know this at once” 9:38:20 PM 12/09/04 “I know what I'm buyin' Bison for christmas!” 7:40:41 AM 12/10/04 “Last time I was in EMS they had some lexan long handled spoons. I didn't look to see how much though.” 7:43:59 AM 12/10/04 “You don't need to get me any enertia meals Nigal, there'r plenty around when I'm hiking - "I am a big Enertia lover" embear 9:20:01 PM 12/08/04” 7:44:05 AM 12/10/04 “I can just imagine meal time in the Bison camp... Bison: But I do' wannit! Embear: You're gonna eat it and you're gonna like it! Bison: WHAAAAAA! LOL! P.S. Please accept my apologies in advance for when some dirty minded perv copies this to the out of context quote thread.” 7:53:12 AM 12/10/04 “I emailed enertia yesterday with one complaint about their product. I mentioned to them that ther sauce for the switchback spaghetti was like a brick and hard to breakup much less dissolve. I received an email back from them today offering to replace that meal. I refused because even though the sauce didn't dissolve all the way it was still good. BTW they did tell me they were going to have a new and improved sauce in 2005 for the spag. Bison, you say you have seen people sit around and wait on the enertia meals before they could eat them. I know of very few meals that you pour boling water in and eat right then. I admit I haven't tried the MaryJanes but then again I had never heard of them either. I have tried other brands but keep coming back to enertia.” 10:03:18 AM 12/10/04 “Mary Jane.... organic....recyclable packaging, ..... all sounds a bit hippy green liberalish to me Bison. You going all earth mother on us? ;o)” 10:15:38 AM 12/10/04 “I tried one of their meals and HATED it. I couldn't even eat it. A dog on the hike ate it for dinner.” 10:29:28 AM 12/10/04 “Enertia meals are OK, but I like MH better. MH is easyer to fix.” 10:30:38 AM 12/10/04 “Ha ha ha! I have to admit, Mary Jane is yummy and is easy to prepare, but not near as much of a selection that Enertia has. At least thats how it is at my REI. Some of the Enertia meals do take long to prepare cause you gotta hydrate the beans, but it sure is yummy and sastisfying once you eat. I dont mind the wait.” 10:31:39 AM 12/10/04 “Hey Buck, be sure you hunt down the right guy...I don't run the adventure races, birch does...lol...” 10:33:05 AM 12/10/04 “Yeah, They don't carry alot of Mary Jane's at most REI's, but if you go to the website there is a huge selection. The REI at SLC had a big selection though so I stocked up when I was out there.” 10:33:09 AM 12/10/04 “embear, I haven't tried it yet but some folks say you don't have to hydrate the beans first. Just fix it like the normal pouch directions and let it sit longer.” 10:38:34 AM 12/10/04 “Yeah Ewker, I've tried that, but the beans are still a bit crunchy. The best way to cook it is in a pot.” 10:42:46 AM 12/10/04 “embear, that must have been you then. I haven't seen MaryJane at REI before but then again I don't go in to buy their foods either. Anyone like the Hey Dude Foods. I know Binks sells them. They are ok but still not as good as enertia.” 10:46:29 AM 12/10/04 “Hey birch, I just wanted to apologize to ya for some of the crude comments I made on here joking around. I know you wanted to let Enertia know you are spreading the word about their products and I hope my comments here don't reflect badly. I made them before I found out you were going to pass the link along. If I could edit them out I would. Sorry bro.” 11:16:29 AM 12/10/04 “Nigal, messed up..ut oh he is in trouble. right up there with his hero BB ;)” 11:20:18 AM 12/10/04 “I like crab meet in my Enertia alfredo. It comes in foil packs now. Very convenient. And I love the little bit of time (which I've never really noticed being longer than anyone elses, btw) sitting around in a little community with everyone cooking, chatting and peeking over to see what others are cooking.” 11:22:11 AM 12/10/04 “Is that good crab? A lot of the canned crab I've had is fishy.” 11:24:49 AM 12/10/04 “Wal-Mart has all the major meats now in foil packs. I've tried the salmon, smoked oysters, and chicken so far. Good stuff. I can't vouch for the crab yet, but I'm getting there - some trip soon, maybe the big AT shindig in January. I'll make sure I wash my hands first.” 11:37:28 AM 12/10/04 “Yeah, nigal it's good. People were making crab cakes with it on the trail at Yellowstone. Yummmmm! My favorite is the little salt, pepper and condiments they include for the meals. Very thoughtful!” 11:42:43 AM 12/10/04 “Having tried the ground beef packets three times now I'd say avoid them. I don't know what they put in it but I feel like crap every time I eat it.” 11:49:00 AM 12/10/04 “Noted. MSG? Too much sodium?” 11:51:42 AM 12/10/04 “I like the ground beef (Mexican style) in the foil pouch. I also like to put smoked oysters in 4 cheese mashed potatoes. I will still bring the oysters in the aluminum can because it burns up in no time. It is also a lot cheaper than the foil pouch.” 11:52:13 AM 12/10/04 “My favorite mashed potato dish is to mix in parsly and a pack of the powdered alfrado sauce. It's KILLER!” 11:56:52 AM 12/10/04 “Sorry about that, birchpusher.” 3:11:24 AM 12/11/04 “No prob *uck LOL. last edited: 12/11/04 3:52:40 AM” 3:52:20 AM 12/11/04 new backpacker meals “i just visited the enertia website and noticed that they have several new meals (or at least ones that i wasn't aware of).... teton teryaki glacier garlic noodles high country casserole pinnacle pasta” 10:15:22 PM 3/05/05 “they're new to me at least... i usually order the sampler box, which has 1 of every meal and i never had any of those. garlic noodles sounds good. i'll have to check em out.” 10:24:56 PM 3/05/05 “haha, pinnacle pasta, from titanium chef.” 11:27:22 PM 3/05/05 “New to me, also..I'll have to check 'em out!” 6:06:31 PM 3/06/05 “YUM - me too.” 10:33:54 AM 3/07/05 “I placed an order - the new meals sound good.” 11:33:38 AM 3/07/05 “Bethany and enertia are the best!!! I received a big ole box of food from her today for our team and support crew for the big 72 hour race coming up June 1st. team thebackpacker.com fuel by enertia!!!!! Thanks Bethany! last edited: 4/11/05 8:30:47 PM” 8:30:22 PM 4/11/05
