Sad News
I only just discovered that Keith Shaw, Sr. died yesterday in Monson.

(For those of you who weren\'t fortunate to know him, Keith ran a hiker B&B in Maine that was absolutely legendary on the A.T. He took in something like 30,000 backpackers over the years, including most of the folks who\\\'ve hiked the whole trail. Keith took in hikers back before anyone else would have anything to do with them. The hospitality, friendliness, and kindness one found there made it a very special place for those of us who\\\'ve spent time on the Trail).

If anyone wishes to send a card or note to his wife Pat or son Keith Jr., here is the address. I\\\'m sure they\\\'d appreciate hearing from folks who were fortunate enough, like me, to have known Keith as a friend.

It's always sad to see people who have given so much go. The AT community is a tightly-knit and wonderful bunch of people. My condolences to his family and friends...

I did not know Keith, but thanks for the post. I have met people like him, and their efforts truly do go unrewarded other than the affection people carry in their hearts.

i got lost goin to their house. a side trail leads from the AT to the road into monson, but right before i got to the road, i took a wrong turn onto a snowmobile path, and ended up on the other side of town. i stood at the side of the road trying to hitch a ride for 45 minutes. when i finally got picked up, i found out to my dismay and amusement that the town was just on the other side of the hill and i could have walked there in 5 minutes. when i finally walked into their home that night, keith eagerly made me feel really welcome and sat at the table while i ate pouring me milk and coffee and making sure that i got plenty to eat.
fear not, AT thru-hikers, im sure the business will go on, as it is already is in his sons name, and his wife is still there and in good health as far as i know

r.i.p. mr shaw
