West Virginia Car Camping Trip July 14-1 7th 2005

“Oh and the photo album is a hoot. But you are out hiking now, is that true? I have to work back into shape. My upper body is strong (working out for nursing) but my hiking legs are gone, especially with the cardiac problems I was having, I couldn't breath well. So I have much to do.”

The trip page will give you all the info you need. Meet on Thursday (we will be there on Friday too if you cannot make it Thursday) Car camping and Bud drinking through Sunday.

Saturday night we have a cook off challenge. You don't have to enter, but you must have an empty stomach because we will have enough food for an army.

During the day, we take side trips to hot spots in the area, hike, swim, drink and just have fun.

It really is a good time, and you can double the size of your, "who I've met list."”

Lessee, some of the highlights from last year ...

Winter Solstice's son tried to burn down the campground, Bobo fell out of his chair, my son picked up where Winter Solstice's son left off, the Rangers came by and scared Gremlin half to death, Maple Leaf got caught by the ranger when she went to the waterfall to skinny dip late at night, ... and those are just the highlights.

Oh yeah, Gremlin's caribou and Bobo's salmon were the bestest! Bobo won.

Hell, even Scorchfire from Wartmonster showed up.”

“No, the rangers came around to tell people to quiet down, and when they left, Grem said, "Don't shoot; I'm Canadian!" Poor guy was shaking and apologizing and apologizing and shaking. I felt bad for him, coming to the US on holiday and being exposed to all that violence.”

“I have been looking for a new bag the past week. Putting more emphasis on what I need and have searched all the past archives, all the camping supply people, REI, CAMPMOR, MARMOT, KELTY, SIERRA, yada yada yada....
Not being familiar with the summer nights in the mountains here, it is hard to judge the temp ranges.
What I am after is this: rectangular bag, left hand zipper, +30 degree, less than 3 pounds and under $125.00. I just don't like the mummy style bag cause I move around a lot and feel constrained.
paul at REI suggested the Big Agnes +40 but it doesn't have bottom insulation, instead, it has a place to slip the pad in.... that sounds like putting my bare a$$ on that cold pad !!!

“It can dip into the upper 50s after a front moves through, but it's essentially nights in the 60s, a tad lower in the higher elevations. I doubt it would get lower than the mid-40s there.

I was down there two weekends ago and the low got down to 36 one night. I was okay in my summer bag inside the tent.”
