Hate to say this, but it is looking like a better than 90% chance that we will have to opt out of this trip. Circumstances have gotten extremely out-of-control for us. It's not looking good and this saddens me...

SC, if you knew how much we have been looking forward to this, you would know that I only say this because it MUST be this way. If there were any way around it, I would find it and take advantage of it. Yesterday set me back 350 dollars (with my friend giving me a generous discount). And that doesn't even touch the work that he was originally going to do on the car to get it roadworthy for the trip. That, combined with Maple being out of work, makes for a monetary problem that I can't hope to get around.

I haven't mentioned my recent health issues either. I am getting over this, but for the past wek and a half, I have been experiencing flu-like symptoms that I wouldn't wish on anyone. It was bad enough to send me to the hospital last Sunday. I was tested for Lyme disease, which turned out negative, thankfully (although I have to be tested again in a month). It was narrowed down, so far, to some sort of funky, wicked virus. West Nile hasn't been totally ruled out yet, either.

So, you can see that it hasn't exactly been an easy time here lately. I really wanted to meet the new folks coming on the trip and re-unite with the old friends, too. I also wanted to show you c_cksuckin' hoopleheads what really great ribs taste like!

Damn tree, that puts a damper on things. I know you would not want it to be that way, but it does. You and Mapes will be missed. Get well and take care. I'll catch you some Saturday in August.

hey Tree, even though I won't be at this gathering, I hope you get feeling better and things turn around for you and Maple.

TT will be really quiet that weekend with this trip and the Sierra trip going on.

There are bears, but bears are hunted in the national forest so tend to shy away from humans. But food should be stored in the cars to keep it away from raccoons and other critters.

Spirit Coyote, I can take you right to where the bears work and play.

You will need to pack three days food and wear good rugged boots.

It'll take all day to get into Deepest Darkest West Virginia.

And you'll want to spend at least two nights in there so's you'll have a good day to take a look around.

If you're lucky you'll see a lot of bear schit.

Man, treebeard, I hate that. I was looking forward to meeting you guys.

I'm keeping at eye on the weather. If it looks like it's gonna be rainy, I probably won't go. No point in driving that far to sit in my tent in the rain. Yes I'm a wimp.

BTW, the car is ready. It's been upped to about 550 dollars. Tie rods went, battery, alternator, also. Plus one other ditty I can't even explain!

OUCH! Car repairs hurt especially when they hit all at once.

Is the car road worthy at least?

Should be superb now!!! Maple's going to get it soon.

But, that's leaving us empty and, with her income missing, it's a problem...

who cares about the freakin weather! life is far to short to avoid doing stuff because of a rain drop or two. BIT get your arse to WV If I can get out there all the way from indiana then so can you >:|
Spirit Coyote
12:30:39 PM
7/08/05

Yes, Bit! You, too, can get there via Indiana. Just put your mind to it...
Treebeard
12:33:20 PM
7/08/05

Well, my route was taking me through Tennessee and Virginia...

It depends, there are other factors involved. I have had some unplanned absences from work in the last couple weeks, and now if I do go, I will be very very low on leave. Our work combines our leave, so if you get low, you're just low. I think I will have a two day buffer if I do go on the trip now, and that's lower than I like for it to get. So there is that as well.

I am really bummed that you Trees won't be there. You two were the reason I was going. Is there anything we can do to help out? I wish you the best.

BTW, speaking of rain, I will bring my big sil tarp. I think it's 10 x 12 or so. It's not as good as a screen house though.

Hey Mapleleaf
I will show up if you guys dont mind me bringing 2 kids, 8 and 11 and my dogs. Also Mapleleaf I saw your original message say $35 group rate but I went to that website you saw and it said $50 group rate, am I missing something? Anyway how much does that equal per person? I mean how much money should I bring to donate for me annd my family toward the price of the site?
