I'd rather go to the MidEast place Sass. That sounds really good!

Ewker-- I think in Filipino restaurants "chicken on a stick" is called a chicken Satay-- usually glazed with some sauce and then grilled. Very light tasting and "mighty tasty"!

We are pretty blessed with a lot of really good ethnic food varieties in the Detroit Area...

We also have the largest Middle Eastern and Polish communities outside of their native countries...

so many interesting foods to try...
Although I have not yet been brave enough to try kibbe (raw lamb) at the lebanese restaurant--and not sure that I'll ever be that brave!)

(Isn't raw beef called "steak tartare")

Nigal-- La Shish (which I think Sass mentioned) is one of the best local Middle Eastern chains in the area. I love their "fresh-from-the-oven" pita breads (especially when they put sesame seeds on top.)

They have a really cool meal where you can get a sampling of either vegetarian or meat dishes (I think it's called a "mazas" platter, which I take to mean an assorment...) It's cool to share so that you can try a variety of things....

No but worked for a Greek Restaurant in Rochacha. I was the only male server, the rest were college girls.................have some great stories.............

I'm sorry.

There's a chocolate store near me that sells Luxembourg chocolates, flown in each week. I go there when I'm feeling rich or if I need a gift for someone "special".

They are opening a new La Shish in Ann Arbor near the intersection of Washtenaw and US-23, right in the old Bill Knapp's. I can't wait.

I had some crazy wasabi on salmon sushi at Koreana in Appleton, WI. Wow!

Sounds good Pinky!

One of my favorite places to eat is actually a chain. Caraba's! They're Italian grills but all the recipes are straight from Grandma Caraba. All the meat is fresh daily, hand cut and cooked over maple and apple woods fired grills. Stuffed chicken breast so tender you can cut them with a fork...hell, you could cut them with a spork too!

Good chocolate is one of my biggest pleasures. The best thing about it is one piece is so satisfying a bar will last a long time. I feel the same way about cheeses. Who am I trying to kid, I feel the same way about almost all food, lol.

I couldn't take it anymore. I had a craving and it wouldn't go away. It had been soooooooo long. As soon as I got home I put the call in.

Thirty minutes later I was feasting on a vegetable spring roll, Crab Rangoon, and General Tso's chicken.

After I gorged I put up my new Chinese Calendar

I put together a recipe for Chinese Sesame Chicken that I made the other night. It was absolutely awesome, if I must say so. Maple and the kids loved it, too...

So, now I have pretty much perfected my Chinese style ribs and I mke a mean pepper steak, too. Watch out on the next TT cook-off, people! Especially you, Bobo, wherever you are in the Scandinavian region. I'm a comin' back fo' da crown!!!!!

I don't think I've heard of Caraba's ... sounds yummy!

The best steak I ever had was while visiting my sister in NYC. We went to a restaurant in Tribeca (I can't remember the name, but i think it was a numerical name?)

The steak was $45, but we decided to get it anyways, since they were known for their steaks and heck, we were in NYC! (The place was rather upscale-- almost didn't let us in because Thinkbubelz had on shorts( they were bermudas and dress shorts)... My sister griped at them because they had made no mention of a dress code when she called on phone and we had just travelled 30 minutes from another part of Manhattan to get there... so they seated us in a dark corner....

The steak was literally "fork tender" and out of this world!

FYI, it's another of the many acronyms attached to locales in this city. It's name mean TRIangle BElow CAnal

NYC has such interesting foods...
I had a piece of chocolate, which I think was from a place called "La Maison de Chocolat".... it tasted like a chocolate cloud-- it was so soft and buttery, it just melted on our tongues........

have you had the "mexican" chocolat bar from Vosges (I think that's how it's spelled") It's abouty $7 a bar -- and we get it at Whole Foods... kind of spicy, with some chili pepper in it.... It's really good...

There is a CArraba's in B'ham. I like it.

There are several Greek restaurants in B'ham that date back to the early 1900's. The Bright Star has a fresco painted by a traveling artist in 1909. The painting is at the top 10' or so of the wall, and all around the perimeter of the inside walls. The building has 20' ceilings. The Greek steaks are fork tender. Man, I haven't eaten there is 4 or 5 years.

Our office Christmas party is going to be at an engineering convention in Feb for Mardi Gras. This group has a yearly Mardi Gras meeting in Mobile. The bosses wife couldn't stand us not getting together for Christmas so we're going traditional. Next wed at a Japanese steakhouse, we're throwing down. We're such a traditional firm!

currahee--

re: hot Thai food....

I was at a restaurant and ordered a Thai noodle dish. ON the table, they had a little jar of ground hot peppers that you could spoon onto the noodles... (and I'm talking a TINY spoon)....

I put a couple of scoops into my noodles, thinking I could handle it-- it was so hot that I almost couldn't eat it!!! (AND, I couldn't feel my tongue because it felt numb!)

Yeah, it's almost criminal how hot that stuff is.
I was deployed to Thailand for a month back in '93, and we had a traditional Thai company there cater for us. They must have thought it would be funny to bring us big Americans down to size with the spicy dishes they served. Yowza!

When my stomach had its armor casing I used to cook with Habanero peppers. Even though the next day part of me was cursing those peppers I couldn't resist. I would buy them dried for the full effect.

However, They contributed greatly to dissolving the armor over time.

There's a new Thai place in B'ham I've been wanting to try. I've never eaten Thai.

Yall have inspired me to eat lunch at the local Chinese place. They also have Japanese and serve sushi rolls on the buffet. I think they're California rolls. When we go in the evenings we'll get spicy crab roll with a side of veggie lo mein. Ahhh, good stuff.

Round one: hot and sour soup, egg roll, and 2 California rolls

Round two: Mongolian beef, veggie low mein, seaseme chicken, and some sort of shrimp dish

Round three: some donuts and 2 fried crab rangoons.

I'll be hungry again in an hour. Why does Chinese food do that?

Thai also has chicken satay.

treebait, I love cheeses too, smoked mozzarealla, smoked Gouda, double cream, cave aged gryere, etc. I like the cow's milk cheeses.

Nigal, if you cook the meatballs at a high temp for a short period of time, that gives them the brown outside without overcooking. I just started using the oven method, because I got the idea from my sister. I used to slave over the pan turning the .......little suckers. I hated it. I made meatloaf yesteday, just not to roll meatballs.

I like pierogis (potato) too. My in law boils the frozen ones by Mrs. T brand, then sautees them in butter and onion.

Another Chinese favorite I order is plain lo mein. I love pasta!!!!
